His case has been dismissed and he's been awarded costs.

Really pleased for him, but it'll be a real uphill battle next season if we end up losing him too.

A double edged sword.

Delighted for him personally, of course.

According to BBC Radio Humberside:

Former Sc**thorpe United winger Ryan Colclough says “trial by media has affected both me and my family, emotionally and financially” after recent criminal charges against him were dropped.

The 26-year old was released by the Iron in October 2020 following an internal investigation.

Colclough was set to stand trial at Doncaster Magistrates Court on Monday, 12th July charged with assaulting a police officer and criminal damage following his arrest in June of last year.

However, the Crown Prosecution Service ruled there was no sufficient evidence to properly convict in court after reviewing the video and audio from the officer’s bodycam.

The case was dismissed with Colclough granted his costs in the case.

Alas, I now fully expect full-time clubs to start submitting offers for his services next season.

Wouldnt be surprised if the likes of Port Vale ,Oldham and Rochdale  or Stockport are interested depending on his contract

"Altrincham have been given a major boost ahead of today's game at Dagenham & Redbridge after Ryan Colclough committed himself to the club until the end of next season and Alistair Smith agreed to extend his loan spell for another month."

I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a clause in that contract for Football League clubs like Alistair Smith had, though.

Really happy for Ryan but losing him is a massive worry. We haven't had a 'best player' that's this far ahead of the rest of the squad since Colin Little. Would be a huge blow but he does deserve to be playing League football.

The main thing is (as others have said) great news for Ryan personally, so delighted for him. It must have been a big strain with the court case hanging over his head for months and trial by media.

Agreed. Puzzled by a CPS decision to charge, for the process to run so long and so far, then a judge says there's nothing of merit in the video and audio.

Hope he stays.

Strange we have so many clauses for positive reasons (EFL offer) but not for a clause to clear some of the sh*te in our squad that wasn't good enough.

We ditched Pigott, and he was under contract. Probably cost us.

What have shown themselves to be erronious charges could have wrecked Ryan's career and, as things like this can do, also wrecked his family life.

I am delighted the charges have been dropped, but hope Ryan takes into account the loyalty and trust Alty has shown to him...

HOWEVER....he will want to be getting back to earning more money as soon as possible; I think we have to be realistic about that and I doubt the Alty board would have given him a contract without a good return for us if he does go.

I'm sure he was sold a win, win deal. He gets to play and we get the benefit of his skill but if it plays out like it has he has been visible to scouts and gets to leave for a place in the football league  but not on a free transfer because he's contracted to us for another season. That's business.
