Title: Wealdstone Match Thread
Post by: oneedham on March 25, 2024, 09:31:40 AM
Cooper had a bad game on Sat, maybe still has hamstring issues. Could start Banks as right CB.

                         Ross

Donawa      Banks     Baines     Jones

                Osborne   Wilson

Amaluzor           CCC           Newby

                        Linney

Got to be starting Linney, with CCC back as 10.

If Amaluzor is still injured then either Kossy or Mooney.

Subs : Mooney, Kossy, Roscoe, Hancox & Cooper

Must win game really. hope Eddie is back if it was illness. Linney up top has to be. Banks to RB if possible, although Coops cost us a few goals on Saturday so maybe rotated out.

Absolute must win if we are to have any hope of scraping one of the final play off spots. Linney to start the obvious change but not entirely sure where we are with the back four & we are now entering the four games in nine days period so some kind of rotation is inevitable. Hopefully Wealdstones ridiculous schedule will catch up with them with this being their 3rd league game since last Weds. Crowd won’t be great either I fear around the 1,500 mark after blowing a big chance on Saturday. Flip side recent Tuesday night atmospheres vs Dorking & York with just the hardcore in have been much better.

I don't think we should drop Jake Cooper after one poor performance unless he's struggling for fitness.

We decided to over-react after the Aldershot game - and look where that got us. It'll be a one-off, he struggled with the conditions.

Lewis Banks back to right back for me, Justin Donawa should be considered as a forward option off the bench. Hancox at left back if Eddy is still unavailable.

The main rotation we should be considering is obviously Regan Linney - and I'd also be keen to give Dan Mooney a go from the start too.

Agree with that apart from only playing Mooney from the off if Amaluzor isn't fit to start.

This will be one of the hardest games we have left.

Don’t show them any respect. Play the best 11 and get at them from minute 1. Get in front and keep going at them. They are down there, yes with games in hand, but they won’t fancy it tonight if we go at them

Exactly this.

We're full-time, they're part time, and we should be fresher as they had to play midweek last week - plus it's a long trip up for them.

Should be going at them from minute 1 to minute 90, they should fade quicker than we do.

They will be particularly vulnerable during the last 20 minutes also, but an early goal will help immensely.

Great win after a slow start, with some key players taken off and rested before the end of the game.

One more down, five to go.

Poor first half, Wealdstone were the better side and thought we were lucky to be 1-1 at HT. Ethan Ross made a couple of decent saves again.

2nd half was a different story, we are a different (and much better side) when we run at opposition defences, get behind them and attack with pace. They don't like it up em. That's what happened second half and got the deserved win. Elliot Osbourne deserved man of match, ran the midfield second half and made some superb passes. Alex Newby also a big threat and key to us getting the lead.

Very enjoyable win with that second half performance, well done to Parky, Sorvs and the lads! :D :D

Never doubted us for a moment.
PS. Will be making a rare away appearance at Aggborough on Friday so please keep it up lads, a resounding Alty victory would make a frantically manic weekend with the grandkids immeasurably more bearable! 😉

I imagine PP's talk at half time included the words "if we pass to each other this half rather than to our opponents we might do better".

The first half was as poor as anything I've seen this season - it was the 6th minute before an Alty player touched the ball in Wealdstone's half, and Dan Mooney immediately lost possession. Once we got on our game after the break it became rapidly apparent that to call Wealdstone "mediocre" would be quite an understatement. Kiddy on Friday will be a much tougher proposition, and we need to be on our game for 90 minutes, not 45.

A Game of two halves.

When we play at pace we are very good. When we don’t … We aren’t

Second best for 40 mins in first half yet Newby should have had a hat trick!

The hair dryer treatment at ht worked wonders. As has been said, play with a vit of urgency and we are a different team.

Some very poor defending help our cause.

Play offs position resembling the okey cokey

A game of two halves but ultimately another comfortable Tuesday home night.

I thought Wealdstone went off like the clappers, high press, very aggressive & strong running & deserved to take the lead. Our quick equaliser really deflated them though & at half time I was fairly confident. The brilliant early strike by Wilson (what technique, him & Marriot in CM next season is very interesting prospect) settled the nerves & then a lovely little lay off by Mooney (encouraging signs he’s getting back to his level) & superb finish by Banks & it was game over. Fourth put the gloss although I reckon it was Wilson again rather than Linney.

Absolutely has to be followed up at Kiddy on Friday though. Halifax with their two games in hand, are Solihull dropping out, so many twists & turns. Crowd of 1,700 home fans on a wet Tuesday night & with England on TV was very encouraging too. If we get s result vs Kiddy should be 4k plus easy vs Latics I think.

Weakdstone should be ok I think but they looked completely knackered by the second half as a few of us suspected at half time. When you are in the scrap down there you have to go a bit more horses for courses. Thought they went off too quickly & consequently were very easy for us to pick off second half. Massive credit to the 37 away fans.

Like others say, game of 2 halves, the part timers flagged and we capitalised, assisted by the weather somewhat. They burnt out.

5 cup finals left, need a win at Kiddy to keep pressure on others. won't be easy. Going there for the first time in over 35 years, blimey.

I think the fact Wealdstone started off at a gallop coupled with the fact that they had a few lucky bounces caused their confidence to grow and ours to wobble. I certainly feared the worst and was very glad to go in level at half time.

In the second half we got the goal we needed in double quick time and they simply fell away.

See they've just flirted their manager after 73 days in charge. 5 games in 12 days and 1 point in the last six. They could sneak in the bottom four at this rate. Hope for Kiddie yet?
