Title: Do we expect any transfer activity at Alty today?
Post by: stubmanred on January 31, 2011, 10:56:03 AM
What does everybody think?

Smith to Stockport seems to have gone quiet. Is it happening?

Do we expect any new faces to bolster our squad?

Would like to see us bring Foster in based on his record this season and what people said about his performance v Hayes.

I think the only out will be if James Smith goes to Stockport.

Not sure on ins...

Don't mention signing Steve Foster..you'll have all three of the people on Salfords forum on there telling them us how he has Salford tattoed on his arse and can never ever leave.

Kenny is quoted in today's MEN as saying that he's not looking to steal Foster from Salford, and wants to show them the proper respect.

I'm sure Ken is trying to do the right thing with regard to Foster.

However, I can't help but feel that other (less nice) clubs would be a bit more ruthless in this situation.

The longer he goes on scoring,  maybe other teams  will notice him?

I say we Keep it now and trial Pre season - putting something in place now to stop other clubs

Nick Clee
If Andy Carroll's worth £35m then I've got to be worth at least £10m, joke!! xx

Well at least nicky's not going anywhere with that self-valued price tag.

From http://www.thefootballforum.net/index.php?/topic/194945-transfer-rumours/page__pid__4383779__st__420#entry4383779

"It seems ours and Alty's valuations of Jamie Smith don't even come close, so that one won't be happening. I can't imagine Jamie being too happy at Alty denied him a full time contract at a Pro club, but fair play for sticking out for their valuation."

I think that's the end of that then...

Fair play by our board, shows we'd rather miss out on a little bit of money and try and stay up rather then cash in on smith now and undoubtedly put a less able player in to fill his spot.

Think with the players that've left we should have the cash to bring in 1 or 2 others?

I sincerely doubt it, maybe a couple loan singings in the next month.

I like Alty standing firm on this one ... I would hope Stockport didn't come in with a silly bid, esp seeing as they are WANTING HIM BACK so therefore must highly rate him ?

James is out of contract at the end of the season,so the choice of what he wants to do is his.I personally think a combined wage of driving and part time football will far exceed anything stockport would offer.

Maybe so Pete but he's still only young so may prefer to take the chance to play full time again quite understandably in my view.

I would say that he's improved since he's been with us and maybe someone else will offer him a deal

According to rob Dawson at the MEN the smith deal has fallen through because of alty's demands

I love the word 'demands' sounds like we are being b*stards, I would hardly imagine 'demands', but a realistic evaluation for an important player !

Exactly. You could just as validly say that it fell through because Stockport made us an insultingly low and unacceptable offer.

We could always ask Plymouth for some of their players they have to offload some to meet the tax bill they owe,and on top of that their players have not been paid for January at all, so playing for us parttime would mean they get a wage.

Stockport probably offered a deal we didnt think would be beneficial.Whilst we wouldnt want to stand in his way.I believe james is very happy at altrincham, and will have a pick of clubs in 3 months time, should he want another crack at pro football. We are also in a relegation battle, and whichever way rob dawson wants to word it,im sure county would not want to let turnball, for example,go without it being worth losing key player for the final relegation run in...

Rochdale defender Alan Goodall has agreed to join League Two strugglers Stockport on a deal until the end of the season.

So that's that then.

Thought this might be of interest ......   http://www.salfordcityfc.co.uk/news-item.php?page=club&id=296

Even though I'm a diehard Salford City supporter I do have a soft spot for Alty and remember with fondness going to games v's Sandbach Ramblers, Crewe Reserves, Kirkby Town, Wigan Athletic and many others.

Best of luck for the rest of the season from one of the three people on our forum!  ;D

I'm led to believe that the offer wasn't good enough given both clubs relative situations and that James himself was able to see that.

I can imagine James being happy that he's going to get paid all his wages, at the appointed time every week without fail as he has ever since he joined us though....
