Braintree in 2016 was a bad day, one of the worst in fact, although I immediately think of Tamworth a year later as being an even worse day.

Worthing were once one of my local teams, although I never quite took to them. They were knocking on the door of the Alliance Premier League, as was, in the mid eighties, and would be a much better day out or weekend away than Braintree, with a ground handy for both station and seaside. They apparently play really attactive football, too.

Still, I'd prefer being in our position and having to go to Braintree than in Macc or NOrthwich Vics' and having to work out how to get to Market Harborough or OJM Black Country!

I remember falling over at that ground on my way into the ground. There was an uneven surface just to the right of the turnstiles on the way in and went over on it. I fell and knocked over another fan who hurst his knee.

That ground was unsafe then on what I agree was a miserable afternoon.

Christ that was an awful day. We stayed in the bar most of the second half it was that bad, locals rubbing it in as they got in the play offs. Its a trek from anywhere & zero decent pubs in the town. They were just about my least preferred option of the Conference South teams but there we are.

Yessss Marine , what a great manager that Neil Young is. ;D
Should we have given him more time?💣

Aye, 30 years inside for crimes against footy.

I doubt that anyone was desperately keen to return to Braintree, especially after our torturous last visit there in on 30th April 2016 which culminated in an abject 3-0 capitulation and duly ensured our relegation under the management of Neil Tolson.

However, you certainly couldn't begrudge them their promotion on the evidence of this afternoon's game.

Ultimately, it was the tale of two diving headers in extra time and our old friend Danny Cashman missed his opportunity to be the Worthing hero.

Blame me. I said on our group chat, I’d take Braintree coming up if it meant Macc lost their final today. A fair trade to be honest.

Croasdale and Paddy Madden both leaving County although I suspect both will stay in the EFL
