Delighted to see us raising the tone of the league by signing someone with a hyphenated surname. Our first since Nathan Comley-Excell?

Tut, tut Cult! I think you're forgetting Super-Joe O'Neill.  ;)

The forum moderators on here should really do something about this sort of thing. I'm nearly of pensionable able and supposed to be calming down a little because of the old blood pressure and then we get posters like this making me want to tell him to stick his discounted tickets back up the same orifice from where his chairman speaks.

It's just not good enough.  ;)

PS: If there's any doubt about my opinion can I just say that there's as much chance of me paying (anything) to watch the Green Gits as there is of Dennis's brother getting a job as an after-dinner speaker.  ::)

To do that is scandalous! Its hard enough to get sponsors without that. I presume this is about the fact that they employ two people at the club who were involved in an alledged chairty sting where companies advertised on a calendar for charity but only 5% went to charity. The fans want them sacked, the club stands by them.

I think part of it also may be to do with the misgivings many of the fans have about the current ownerships's intentions in the longer term to do with building student accomodation adjacent to the ground and the future of the training facilities etc.  Quite a few believe that there is some kind of hidden agenda going on.

It seems that, under pressure from the Chairman's solicitors, the Red Passion (fans website) moderator has been forced to wipe the board and all its history and start again to avoid litigation. Unbelieveable!

Don't think so - aren't they somewhere in cheshire? We used to play them not so long ago, they were full time on 350 gates with a brand new 2 sided ground next to a chemical works and had a blueprint for a marina didn't they?

... oh, sorry I thought you said 'gimps'.  ;)

I think it's another measure of just how far we've come and with the quality of players that we have. I remember everyone (including me) being very excited when Elam came to ML. We saw it as a real step forward.

As we know know, the real step forward was to have improved sufficiently so as to not be interested in signing a player with an attitude like his.

TNS are apparently trying to play at the Deva from next year after having their ground deemed unfit for the new slimmed-down welsh premier! Deva fans are none too pleased in the main.
(Sorry, can't do linky things)

Looks like my local derby days at the Deva have been limited to one (at least in my lifetime - i.e. the 30 odd years or so)

This really does seem like a "We'll never play you again" moment.

The situation is so sad for their fans I haven't really got the heart to rib them about it any more.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Colin Peake is unhappy (what a shame)
« on: February 09, 2010, 06:47:30 PM »
Colin Peake. The epitome of self-centred, bias, bigotted, two-faced, back-stabbing, sh*t-shovelling, muck-raking, underhanded skullduggery, chicanery and sh*thousery.
I feel very sorry indeed for him.
I truly hope that FGR finish fourth bottom at the end of the season and his subsequent monkey-tricks and attempts to build cases against other clubs fail to save them. It's about time some other league had a basinful of him don't you think?

PS: Sorry about that everybody. If you know anything about me, you will realise that that was completely out of character (most of the time ::))

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Attendences
« on: February 09, 2010, 05:16:03 PM »
Since the Conference went two up-two down, there is obviously clubs whose attendances are way above the rest. I'd say our attendances are satisfactory all things considered (although obviously more support is always welcome).

Taking into account the state of the economy etc., I think we're doing ok. We always used to be one of the bottom three or four average attendance-wise (I think) but there are now 7 or 8 teams with lower average gates than us.

to be brutally honest that sort of att against that sort of opposition is about it. Why would any die hard altrincham fan think any different?  This is the whole point about the sort of football being played at moss lane this season.... sure its effective and been successful, but its narrow and pretty uneventful.  Last week i got 4 new supporters to go against wrexham, i doubt any will be back this season, as it was too tepid. We have a great catchment area, but its mighty competitive out there. Yes i know we have no money, but we have a great bunch of honest players who are more than capable of entertaining and holding their own at this level. But they have to be allowed to be more expansive and let the creative players express themselves more .To be fair, yesterday was as open a game as i have seen this season, and long may it continue.

I shouldn't really let myself get sucked into replying to this, but I feel like stating the bleedin' obvious...

I'd love to see Alty passing it around like Brazil, but I'm still over the moon if we 'merely' win ... To pass it around like Brazil AND win would be fabulous of course but we can't afford brazilian players.
Salisbury passed it around a bit yesterday didn't they? (Did you enjoy that?) and we banjoed them 5-0. Isn't that good enough for you ffs?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Do we need a winger?
« on: February 05, 2010, 01:10:12 PM »
Personally I think Clee and Denham are good enough.. What we do need is someone (as do many clubs) who can get on the end of things and put the ball in the net on a regular basis.

Couldn't agree with you more. That's exactly what we're short of.
We know it, GH and the staff know it.
Sadly we haven't got thousands of pounds to get one  :(

I suppose the sad thing is that things don't synchronise in life. I mean if the Colin Little of 3 to 4 years ago was playing in the team we've got now, I believe we'd be right up there!
