Title: If we are looking for a forward....
Post by: Dougals Dad on December 17, 2007, 11:29:24 PM
...he has experience...

"Alex Hay netted for Cammell Laird, his 17th goal of the season"

Do Cammell Laird not have a bit of money floating around or have I made that up? Just wonder if they have bunged him on a contract?

I'd hope and suspect that a player like that would be on GH's radar. But TBH I'd like to get a striker from a higher league on loan, Shotton MkII banging the goals in anyone?

I have seen both Sean Clancy and Matty Berkeley in Conf North since their release from Alty and wondered whether we were a bit premature in offloading them. Another one I feel that got away was the lad Baguely who did really well for us in the summer and looked a decent prospect.

yeah, Baguely looked a dead cert to me, decent strike, and his distribution was solid. At the time people seemed convinced that the other options were better, but I'm not too sure now.

Baguley did look good, but as Sedgemore and Whalley were already on board, I think GH thought he was probably too similar a player to keep him.

I know Aaron Burns went to FCUM, is there any possibility of him coming in?

Other potential strikers (All from Conf North and prob all on Contracts)......... But,

Hyde - Seddon, Simm (midfield or Striker) or Tipton - All scored a fair few this season, but suspect that given Hyde's aspirations and current league position - these players may be on a fairly high wage

Harrogate - Danny Holland - 16 goals in 23 games

Stalybridge - Chris Hall (left Oldham in summer to quit football, but came back and has 10 in 22 games) - prob too much baggage and not prolific enough.

Was going to look at Southport and Kettering, but suspect that all their players are contracted

We really need a holding midfielder as well - Any thoughts anyone?

To be contraversial my team including potential transfer positions would be :-

Coburn

Lane
Tinson
Vacant
Vacant

Potts - if 100% fit
Lawton
Whalley
Logan - if 100% fit

Senior
Vacant

So I think to be a good side we need 3 new regular first team players with 2 of our existing squad getting fit (not going to happen I dont think)

I know the likes of Muroe, Peyton, Scott, Owen, Sedgemore and Little will do but if we are have a good side I think that is where we need to look.

As Logan and Potts are not fit and indeed Potts is injured then then realistically we need 5 new players.

Little, Owen and Tinson are getting a little older now and Owen is injured at present. But if we get a fit Owen he could do the job nicely up to the end of the season, maybe in replace of Lawton or Whalley depending on the opposition.

clancy, berkeley and baguley are doing well at much less intense level of football than the conference. even good conference north players can't always hack it in the conference.

There is alot to be said for this. We are fortunate to have two great keepers.

How about Michael Owen? Nobody else wants him.

Not sure if we need a forward to be honest I am slightly more worried about the way we are conceeding goals, If i had to prioritise signings it would be a left back, a right sided midfielder a centre back a centre mid then a striker, we can score enough goals for us to get out of this mess were just not solid enough at the back

Terry Fearns has been transfered list, I believe GH is  a fan of his.

He's had two attempts at Conference National level and been transfer listed both times.

Terry Fearns is a good call, but would cost £10,000, so that's him out! Hay or Burns look more likely.

I don't know how it's going to work but earlier this week I emailed the club to ask about the situation (I'm helping with the research for Football Manager) and got this reply:
"Aaron Burns - depends what offers he gets in jan - wants to stay full time if poss so watch this space"

Sorry! I'd noticed that Lee Mannion didn't seem to be at the club irl whilst being so on the game so I e-mailed them asking about it and at the same time asked about Aaron's situation (and posted it in the forums).  I did misunderstand the comment aswell (thanks for putting me right longsden!).

Can't see Pacey selling Terry Fearns to a relegation rival.

Looking ahead though I think we should've kept Pottsy and signed Fearns, re arrange these word : back up straight.
