Title: Now this is a target man we would do well to bring in
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on May 17, 2009, 10:04:25 AM
He might be 35, but he'd do a job here for 2 seasons, of that I have no doubt.Just the sort of forward you need in this league,it would be good if we could get him released from his contract.

Paul Mullin placed on transfer list
Accrington Stanley have placed striker Paul Mullin on the transfer list this week.

The 35 year old joined the club in August 2000 when the club was in the UniBond League, winning two championships on the way to the Football League, and last season became the our record appearance holder.

Speaking about the decision chief executive Rob Heys explained "Paul has been a tremendous player for Accrington Stanley during his time here, however at a time when all clubs are reassessing their wage budgets it is difficult to accommodate Paul in our pay structure going forward, and this is the only reason that we have put him on the transfer list.

"We have spoken to Paul and he is happy with the club’s decision, he has written himself into the history books here at Accrington Stanley and his actions on and off the pitch have won him a lot of friends in and around the town.

"Also of course until any offer is received, accepted and Paul is happy with a deal then he is still very much an Accrington Stanley player with a year left on his contract."

The age is a concern to me. Do we want a forward 2 in the 70s if we pair him with Col? If he has the fitness then possibly, but we will need a spare forward line on the subs bench.

No. Getting someone in their twenties who can score goals is (or should be) our priority. 49 goals for last year was a killer.

Unfortunately lots of clubs who pay better than us will be looking for the same thing!

We have Dale, Denham, Senior and Col up front. Denahm arguable right wing,l eaving us with 3 forwards.

If we play a 4-3-3 formation again we need more forwards.

If i was GH I would be looking for two  strong midfielders, one ball player, two forwards who can score goals, a spare defender. That is my 6 players I think we need with one to leave the club.

The reason why this is a non starter for Alty is " it is difficult to accommodate Paul in our pay structure going forward".  Can anyone doubt our budget smaller than Accrington Stanley (1968)?
