Barrow defender James Cotterill, 24, pleaded guilty to punching Bristol Rovers striker Sean Rigg during a first round match on 11 November last year. He was sentenced to four months in prison for GBH, at Preston Crown Court.

was a good punch by all accounts i haven't seen it though myself
-
I believe Rigg's jaw is held together with metal plates. Hope I'm wrong.
I saw a little clip of it and it looked like it was a nasty, malicious, wee punch; a left hook from behind.

Bonkers :-\

So when rugby players do it week in week out what's the difference.
-
Perhaps Colin Little was trying to emulate him against Northwich - at least against Northwich it is totally justified ;D

So when rugby players do it week in week out what's the difference.
When it is done in rugby it is generally through a situation involving physical contact in the first place, this came out of no-where and was totally unjustified, not that in rugby it is but it has always been part of the game to throw a sly punch but lets be fair in rugby the other player generally has a part as well, unless its danny grewcock...

The son of a colleague of mine was playing rugby when some scumbag smacked him in the face. He spent four weeks in hospital and now has a metal plate in his head for the rest of his life. That is not sport it is an assault.
I saw the Barrow punch on the BBC news - again an assault and quite correctly being dealt with in the courts. NOTHING TO DO WITH SPORT OTHER THAN THE ASSUALT HAPPENED TO BE ON A SPORTING FIELD.

Coterill - will you be going to wish all the best to your 18-year-old victim?
An absolute joke. And trying to make excuses through your lawyer is even worse.
What a complete scally scumbag. Something's gone wrong in your life - you're a candidate for the recycling bin.
