Yes but at Christmas you don't normally go to another country for a week or 2
honestly jimmy i think a large number of people go on holiday in may or august while the season is still on anyway so it makes no differance.

There are more pros than cons and to be honest some of the cons like this one dont hold much weight.

Like you say 2 weeks or maybe a month earlier could be a good start

So do you want an actual official winter break where the league is shut down in advance, or just an early start/late finish by a couple of weeks?

If we started two weeks earlier, played twice a week for at least the first seven weeks, and only scheduled one game a week from December to February INCLUDING CUP TIES, we should have the contingency to fit in all the postponements  before the end of May.  The League season would potentially be a third over by the end of September, though we would need to cut out pre-season friendlies almost completely, and Cup replays would not cause quite the problem that they currently do for some clubs.

It would mean playing Boxing Day/New Year's Day, but not the Saturdays of that week. And the Cheshire Senior Cup should be abolished.

A ten month season......but what would the players think of it ?

pre season freindlys are very tedious often poorly attended and to be honest a crap warm up for most players in the season, 3 is the most i would have, then start the real season early for non league, im sure the teams promoted/relegated would have more important things to worry about than holidays etc.

its obviously difficult to have a break and i understand traditionalists views on it, but i think for the whole of non league it would do no harm to have more games in june, but it is becoming a farce we were supposed to play histon away on the 29th december who the hell put that in what a crap fixture that was eventually postponed anyway!
