Title: Oldham Match Thread
Post by: robininstockport on October 25, 2023, 09:03:22 PM
Always going to be a big game but nothing to really fear after the FA Cup loss. Hogan being suspended is a plus, I do think we'll play 3 Cb's tho.

                 Ross

      Baines    Jones    Cooper

Donawa   Marriott    Osbourne   Jones

          Amaluzor    Con-Clarke

                Angus

Leves both Newbuy and Sithole as attacking options offf bench

Oldham 2-2 Alty (Angus, CCC)

I think if we play wing backs we need two attacking wide players in the 3, like we did against Gateshead.

We shouldn't be giving them so much respect. I would go with pace and be direct against all the big teams, we were excellent in that second half against Chesterfield.

                               Ross

Donawa        Cooper   Baines     E.Jones

                  Marriott   Osborne

Amaluzor           CCC             Newby

                            Sithole

Full of pace with Donawa, Amaluzor and Sithole. Too many games when we only have Amaluzor for pace.

We can do them on counter attacks. Especially, without Hogan.

If we went wingbacks, then.....

                        Ross

            J.Jones  Cooper Baines

Donawa    Osborne  Marriott    E.Jones

             Amaluzor  CCC  Newby

Wasn't last night Marriott's fifth booking? Meaning he'd be out this weekend?

I'm not often right, but I'm wrong again.

Isn't there a time after which bookings drop off being counted? Something like a month?

Just grasping at straws here 😉

There is a point later in season where it moves to 10 yellow cards issued, so clock is always ticking. Isaac will be missed for Oldham game

Thanks for the clarification - even if it's not really what I wanted to hear!

Who the hell do we play in midfield if Isaac Marriott isn't available?

I sincerely hope we announce a loan addition today - I get that it's only one game but we need more depth in that area anyway, it shouldn't have come to this.

Someone like Cody Johnson at Stockport would do, although he seems to have disappeared from their matchday squads so I have no idea if he's fit or not.

According to Flash Scores only Amaluzor was booked on Tuesday.

Parky mentioned in his interview that George Wilson is back in training so he could be on the bench. Whether he is the solution is another thing

FlashScores are unreliable in reporting bookings. Isaac definitely got booked.

Yes, it was definitely Marriot who was booked.

May struggle in midfield today if Isaac is suspended as reported.

A difficult task without him today

A draw will be a good result

I think Isaac is the the most irreplaceable player we've got.
Just hope this doesn't mean we're going to go with three centre backs and overlapping full backs. If we do, we're going to get overrun. 🤞

i think James Jones will be in midfield a bit like Malarkey did a few seasons ago

You can now see why James Jones is not in this team. Costing almost every time he makes a pass. Cooper & Baines carrying him at the moment. This stream stick thing is quite good though.

A big 2nd half needed and no complacency.

We'd have lost that game last year.

Also how was the lad not sent off for that penalty? Clearly the most dangerous tackle anyone of us will ever see.

It was a pleasure to watch the style of football we deployed today. In fact, it was a really good game between 2 decent play off hopefuls. We need some of our absent bodies back though. I thought everyone played well but a huge shout out for Banks in midfield - him and Osborne were terrific.

They could have been done and dusted by HT, some appalling misses.

Banks did ok in midfield but James Jones was Oldhams best player.

Point gained and not lost in 8(?).

Getting players back should see us kick on

Fair result that. Banks was quality in midfield, CCC took his pen well but looked tired when he came off. James Jones was awful and gave the ball away time after time. Desperately miss Linney

What's the rationale behind playing James Jones to the right of the three?

The two adjacent defenders probably see a bit more of the ball than the central one - or they're certainly required to pick better passes - and he's pretty hopeless with his feet.

Take the point there all day, especially being Mellon’s first home game & them wanting a reaction after their humbling at Fylde.

Well done to the club for turning down Rochdale moving it forward to next Saturday too. Definitely need this two weeks break. Squad is very stretched. Have to hope Linney & Kosylo will be involved in some way by Southend at home.

Either that, or gives the club additional time to get some business done - although I can imagine the budget is already pretty stretched, and the Crankshaw write-off can't have helped.

In retrospect, a trip to Hartlepool (who seem to be coming apart at the seams with the off the field stuff and three defeats in a week) might have been a valuable three points?
Having said that however, a rest for the squad and possibly Linney and Kosylo returning would be fantastic.

How true this turned out to be. I don't think Lundstrum would have had the same influence had Isaac been present and it may well have tipped things our way.

Some of their fans don't seem that sold on Lundstram yet, in which case they don't deserve him.

The more level headed amongst them that got the best angle of the penalty decision seem to accept that you see them given (even though it was soft), TV angles still very inconclusive.

Most of them seem confident they'll make the playoffs on the basis we were rubbish - I'd be more worried they couldn't dispatch us when we were there for the taking.

That last paragraph of your post is typical of fans of a Billy big bollocks club, they should speak to the Wrexhams of the world and realise that getting out of this league isn’t easy,  unless it’s via the relegation path.
