Title: Barnet Match Thread
Post by: robininstockport on January 21, 2021, 08:54:07 AM
We go into the game as favourites. Not got much time for Barnet so win would be sweet.

                            Thompson

Senior     Malarkey Hannigan Hampson

                 Moult       Smith

   Kosylo          Hancock         Colclough

                             Harrison

Barnet 0-2 Alty (Harrison, Kosylo)

Assume Mullarkey playing infront of back 4 in middle with Smith...  no Moult or Colclough...

Think may line up as below...

                             TT
Senior     Sutton       Hannigan     Connor
                  Mullarkey   Smith
          Kosylo   Hancock    Mooney
                        Harrison

Subs: Dens,  White,  Richman,  Ceesay,  Peers...

COYR!

According to Bill Waterson, Jake Moult is unwell:

Well, I thought we were going to throw two points away today. Pulled it out of the fire at the end.

Top marks to the Barnet commentary team. They gave us credit

Dominated the game and missed so many chances but got there in the end  :D

Definitely would have been 2 points dropped against a poor Barnet side that allowed us plenty of room to play our stuff, something the commentary team were complimentary towards I have to say.

It was a dreadful error by young Senior but Hooper was cool as a cucumber, never looked like missing whereas I never back any of our own players in that type of situation.

The quality and depth we have in our squad is making a real difference; Ceesay and of course White played a huge part when they were introduced.

Kozzy was absolutely everywhere as usual.

We fully merited that victory and made Barnet look like a very nondescript and limited outfit, aside from Senior's first-half howler which gifted them the opening goal.

Lovely move for the winning goal. Credit to Ceesay and White for livening up things down our left flank.

Smith stood out again, ably assisted by Mullarkey (the pronunciation of whose surname really does seem to mystify these southern commentators and cause them all sorts of problems), but I thought that Mooney largely flattered to deceive.

Pleased to see Kosylo finally make it onto the scoresheet.

I'm afraid that Byron Harrison simply looked abysmal. He squandered a splendid chance in the first half and that mortifying howler early in the second half constituted the worst miss that I have witnessed by an Alty player since the legendary Danny McGoona contrived to hit the crossbar from merely three yards out against Stalybridge at the Bower Fold in 1997.

We would be frightening if we were ever to sign a decent striker!

In the 88th minute I told my son that Hanks would score, more in hope than anything else!
Look, it's an 'expected' win against a poor team, but what's becoming impressive is our ability to both come from behind and also score late goals.

Yes, very much a deserved win, with credit to the Barnet commentary team for generally acknowledging that.

I was very pleased to see Kosylo get his first goal after all his excellent work this season, but Byron Harrison really, really should have scored...

As Alty Bri implies it's quite a thing for a part-time club to consistently score late winners and equalisers.

Very dominant overall against a team seemingly set up to defend in great numbers (and bulk). We looked like the home side and it was attack versus defence at times.
Credit to the lads in keeping going to the end and getting the win we deserved and after missing a couple of very good chances.

Kosylo mom today, suberb at times and finished very well for his goal. Our second goal was very well worked and shows the options we have from the bench for decent subs to come on and win the game.

The Barnet stream was good quality and the commentators fair, including praise for Alty's football.

Great win in the end - but at times we looked like we might have blown it.  The persistence and determination of the team is something to behold though - we never gave up on 3 points and we deserved it. Think it could have been more though - we need to start moving our goal difference into the black - as that was a pretty poor and low in confidence Barnet side who simply couldn't handle Kosylo and Mooney and n fact Cissay when he came on troubled them as well.

The pitch was made for our flowing play - and we looked a class above all match.  Just hope this season keeps going as long as possible because we look worth a play off place at the moment.  Heady days!!

This is pretty typical of many of the comments on Barnet's fan's forum:
"Total garbage. Passed off the park by a slick part-time outfit... We should have lost by a wider margin had it not been for some extremely lucky moments. The bad luck runs out eventually against class and Altrincham had plenty of that..."

Another victory that we have to be thankful for.  Scoring a late winner, deservedly so, is always a delight, however, a note of caution needs sounding and the fact that we should have had the game won in the first half will no doubt be something Parky will be aware of.  Strong performances again from Kosylo, Smith, and Hampson.  On the flip side Mooney blew a bit hot and cold, often holding onto the ball when he should have passed, and Harrison will just want to forget he ever got on the coach this morning.  Ceesay made an impression the minute he came on and he has become a far better than in his first spell with us; he combined superbly well with Andy White (what a run and cross) to set up our second goal.

At the start of the season most fans would have been forgiven to accept a point a game as a reasonable return, so to be doing considerably better than that is a measure of how far we have come.

Well done again boys, but made harder work of it than maybe we should have,.. but got job done again,.... nice to see comments like this from Barnet fans;

"Must admit though imo Altrincham looked best team we have played so far this season".

"Alty look like a team whom it is enjoyable to watch, whereas for us it’s an ordeal ".

As the Cult has said, if we had a proper number nine, we really would be sensational.

Outplaying and fitter than full time opposition again. Pushed on right until the end and got the rewards for it.

Kosylo was immense today. Let's have either Ceesay or Hancock up top until we find the right man.

Harrison didn't do much wrong, apart from the sitter, but he, Fis and Blyth ( in his short spell ) all seem to need a rocket up their backsides. Said it before, but do we really need a big lad up top? Hulme wasn't the tallest.

Huge respect and credit to this team and management.

Watching Alty is the highlight of my week. Keep going lads.

The commentary mentioned that Barnet are very unfit and undergoing a lot of fitness work to catch up.

But we've more than matched, if no exceeded most FT clubs fitness level.

Yep, sadly I don't think he's for the long term. I wouldn't be surprised to see the recruitment of a centre forward knocked on the head until the end of the season now when we can have a proper go at it.

I still reckon Hancock would score bags of goals like he did today if he played up front with Kozzy in 10 and any two of the three other wingers.

There's an interesting u tube post match interview with Tim Flowers the Barnet manager. Barnet v Alty fc. As expected a slightly
different aspect on the game but nevertheless very complimentary to Alty! SBL

Buzzing at getting the win against full time opposition, listened on RR. We never give up especially. If we can sort the 9 position out we'll fly even higher. The position is there for someone to grab by the scruff of the neck.

Like the credit from opposing fans for a change.

If Tim Flowers thinks they are improving they must have been really poor when he took over. We should have been out of sight by half time, even after gifting them a goal start.

Saw the highlights (good quality imho) and saw a couple of good goals.
The misses from Harrison were disappointing, but to put a positive slap t on them he did get into good positions.

Quality highlights, what a class stadium % near perfect pitch. The area behind the goal (car park and 3G) reminded me of Curzon.  SBL
