Nicky there is a difference to a political view and a disregard to people who have died for the good of future generations

I'll make this my last post in the thread in order to avoid utter tedium, but just to say...you argue like a man completely unable to take on board reasonable counter-arguments to his position. Would you wear a poppy in future if the British Army killed 14 Altrinchamians tomorrow?

If I felt so strongly I wouldn't live or play in England a player with his ability could get a gig at Barca or Madrid

I think his decision may be questionable, especially in light of the fact that tens of thousands of Irishmen lost their lives in the two world wars, but it is an incredibly thorny issue in Ireland and particularly in the North. Some of the posts in this thread show a total lack of any understanding of the situation.

For the record, Banbury comes from the opposite side of the divide to the Republicans, but can still see why it may prove a difficult issue to those from a certain background. People have lost relatives and friends to British forces. Atrocities were committed by both sides and the British Army are far from being clean in this respect...including the slaughter of unarmed civilians....not just from Bloody Sunday in Derry either, you can go back to Bloody Sunday 1920 where forces opened fire on the crowd at a GAA match in Croke Park killing 14 civilians. Feelings run VERY high on such issues.

As, I say, personally I think it wasn't a great decision on his part, but I can sort of understand his reasoning and he has used the shirt to raise money for something worthwhile. I certainly think calls to ban him are way over the top.

Also for the record, you actually do get poppy sellers here in the Republic, not a lot of them, but they are there. They are respected and some do purchase them (although probably not that many if truth be told).

Anyway, one love, one Alty.....let's keep the politics out of it.
