Title: New year signings?
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on December 29, 2012, 10:27:18 PM
What would you like to see in terms of signings?

For me, another Centre back, another centre mid, and and a big mobile bean pole upfront.

1. An absolute animal centre back in the Guy Branston mould, but younger.

2. A heads up midfielder who can pass the ball accurately at least 80%  of the time. Think Ian Craney at his peak.

3. A big, imposing striker. Doesn't need to score many himself, as long as he feeds Reeves and Watmore. Like Dale Johnson, but not as lazy.

1 left back that can at least chase fast wingers, 1 centre back that can head the ball and then its all up to lee again to get his tactics/shape/starting line up correct.

Our 1st XI is one of the best sides in this leagues. I agree with Hughesy. If we can sign those 3 types of players to give our squad more strength in depth then we will make the play-offs. I fear our present squad is unlikely to cope with a possible busy end to the season due to postponements.

This is a serious post before i am lambasted

With new signings are we confident we can get in the play offs?

The reason i ask is there an argument to hold onto the money and rebuild the squad for the start of next season?

I would hate us to spend the money for no return

I have not written this season off either

Thoughts?

My answer to that would be that I'd be looking to dog for example the 3 I mentioned above with cup money or not. Would I expect us to pay a transfer for a player? Certainly not this season, but I'd expect us to use what we had to bring players in. It's been a weird suttering season, for a host of reasons, and we a couple of game in hand against Histon and droylsden, keep doing what we're doing and win those two games and we won't be far off.Stalybridge a
Can trumpet all they want about starting that Jamie Mullin on New Year's Day and how he'll ripe us apart, I''ll raise th
Nicky clee if they want to push it all forward on that flank with a for clee raring to go, them good luck to them with that! We aren't far off, but need more strength in depth

It will be interesting to see who lee brings in

Experienced centre midfield / centre back utility man.

Maybe Amjad Iqbal, former Farsley and BPA man should be a big favourite of lee Sinnott

I'd also resign former loanee Liam King (currently at Mattlock town)

possibly a left back or left midfielder ?

I think Doughty has been excellent when he's played for the most part. He doesn't give the ball away much and has created a lot of attacking chances when he gets up the pitch. As mentioned elsewhere though, he may struggle against the very quick wingers when we do come up against them.

Danny Higginbotham: Stoke have told veteran defender Danny Higginbotham, 34, he can leave the club in January, but it's unlikely he will join Ipswich, where he's been playing on loan.

I may have put it on another thread but we need Clee and Watmore playing every week. That's not gonna happen so get on to Ken McKenna at Morecambe and ask him to loan us that winger who's been at Workington and tore us apart, can play either flank.

don't know the terms of their agreement with Morecambe, but i doubt Workington would let him leave without a fight. See he bagged 2 goals at Bower Fold just before Christmas.

Another creative, direct attacking player would take a lot of pressure of Watmore.
