Potts could make Robins return

COLIN Potts could return to Moss Lane for the new season after impressing manager Graham Heathcote in preseason training.

The 29-year-old winger joined up with Alty after a trial period with Major League Soccer side Real Salt Lake failed to work out.

He originally left the club last season after questions over his fitness led to a lack of first team opportunities.

But after spending the remainder of the campaign with Conference North side Barrow, Potts worked hard to get himself into shape and has so far made a good impression in training.

Heathcote told SAM Sport: "I have never had any qualms with Colin Potts' ability, it was only his fitness that was a problem.

"We let him go last year because we didn't think he was fit enough for this level of football.

"But he has worked hard and has fitness has looked good in training so far."

Heathcote saw 24 players report for the official start of preseason training on Saturday, which included a handful of trialists as well as first and reserve team players.

And the Alty boss believes the signs are good for the coming season.

He said: "Overall, looking at the squad as a group, our fitness levels were very good.

"I don't think we have that many problems with our footballing ability, just whether we can meet the fitness levels required to play in the Conference.

"So the early signs have been good."

The left backs on sale at Waitrose are of a much higher quality.

to be honest last season we needed a wide player who could create an opportunity ofr little et al. Agree we need a left back - we have needed one for a few years. Potts (if he is a fit as what we are led to belive) will be an exceptional addition to our part time squad.

I have always been a fan of Colin and just hope he does resign (return) lol.I know it has been said before about Rods fitness level, but with Potts out wide and Little and Thornley in the middle i think we would start knocking in quite a few goals, but hey Graham's the manager not me.
