Altrincham FC First Team / Re: What's going to happen in the league?
« on: January 11, 2020, 06:02:21 PM »
So.... we're now in the playoff places at 6th. If we win at Spennymoor (if Kettering can, then we should !) and Boston fail to win at home to Gateshead, we'd be 5th on Tuesday night.

At that point, nobody below us could catch us IF we continue to win most of our games. It would leave us only 4 points behind Chester on level games.

4th place should now be our realistic target as we'd need to perform massively to catch Kings Lynn or York, while Brackley haven't lost in the league for 3 months, and have a goal difference of +31, so to catch them would be some achievement - I still think they could catch York.

Kings Lynn are in a strong position, but have a small squad, and interest from EFL clubs in Adam Marriott could yet stymie them.

Looks like a tricky one on paper.  They are unbeaten for five games on the road including wins at York, Farsley and Gateshead.  However, Curzon had a reasonable run of results before we played them and had recent wins against York and Chester to their credit.  Leamington were four unbeaten at home.  We beat both of them a lot easier then the narrow scorelines suggest.

Alty 2 - 0 Guiseley

(Moult, Peers)

Att. 1,254

COYR

Only 12 out on the attendance - good call !

....for Tadcaster Albion. I was starting to think he'd retired since disappearing at Osset. Good luck to him.

I like Guiseley. Decent place, never any bother. Yeah. Good club.
I'll like it even better when we eventually manage to win there !

Praying Hannigan and Moult are fit to play. Would be a massive plus if Harrop and/or Williams are available.

Alty 2-0 Guiseley. Hulme, Johnson

Isn't Harrop starting a three match ban ?

Shame about conceding in stoppage time, but three more massive points. JJ's cross for Tom Peers to head home was absolutely top drawer.

I don't fancy Darlington to turn Solihull Moors over to be honest.

But then, what do I know ? 🤣

A glance at the form table; out of their last 8 games; BPA have played 7 teams in the top 9 (6 in the top 7) and lost all but us.

We'd be 5th without that debacle.

Sorry, that was my fault as I didn't go. Only away league game I've missed so far. I'll pay my penance and go to Spennymoor next week 🙄

You know you've got a poor set of officials when there's a 5 minute stoppage for floodliilght failure, and another 2 minutes for an injury, the board goes up for only 5 added minutes, and the ref only plays 4 ! Utterly bizarre.

I cannot ever remember racking up 15 points in less than a fortnight !

If we were only to draw on Saturday, we would be in the last play off spot, since Southport and Farsley have Trophy games. If we beat Guiseley, and Boston fail to beat Darlington, we'd go 6th. If (arguably less likely) Spennymoor fail to be beat Kettering, you can make that 5th !

If Darlington win their FA Trophy Replay tomorrow night, Boston will not have a game on Saturday.

I don't fancy Darlington to turn Solihull Moors over to be honest.

I guess you're disappointed then. 614 wasn't far below my expectations.

Leamington's official highlights (16 minutes) are now up on YouTube. Worth picking up for the goal alone. I didn't appreciate on the day, from the opposite side of the pitch, how good Peers' ball to Densmore was. Densmore's cross - as with so many he plays - practically begs to put away, and Hancock's finish is top drawer.

There's definitely a player in there, as evidenced by the delightful through ball that set up Jordan Hulme's goal in the Trophy replay against Farsley. However, he doesn't play to the sort of pattern that our management team set up. I'm sure that's being worked on in training, and hopefully he'll have a role to play for us before too long. Most importantly, he needs to work on his tracking back when we're defending.

The only caveat is missing season ticket holders, who will be counted. Realistically, though, these people are core support anyway.

Judge a growing core support on games like tonight's.

Tonight will be an excellent indicator of our core support. With the Derby on telly, and very few visiting fans making a 350 mile return journey, the gate should be a totally accurate pointer.
