From Steve from Sale - the curry king
Hi, best Curry Houses, the Dilli is very good though the menu is slightly different from what we are used to. But I have not yet eaten there, though I am told you get what you pay for, slightly Indian Cordon Bleu type.
There is a reasonable one next door to the Old Market tavern, which is a little lower in price but not much; this was the old Sheer Khan but there is now another one in it's place. The Old Market Tavern I think is also Altrincham's best pub.
There is a restaurant past the Downs going towards Alty Grammer school on the left, which is very good and I have had enjoyable meals in there.

Other as mentioned previously are all ok.

Outside the area there is one opposite IBM in Sale where I had a great pepper sauce curry, it was out of this world!!

The other which deserves a mention is the Naawab in Levenshulme on the A6, and old converted cinema. This is well attended by our local Indian population, which I think is a good recommendation in itself. You can get a three course all-you-can eat meal for £10.00 per head, plus drinks and pappadums.

I would try the Dilli to be honest, I will do that myself very soon.

Enjoy your night

Attn Bluebird

Know this is probrably stating the obvious, but ensure at Deansgate/Piccadilly that you get on an Altrincham tram, some go to Bury/Eccles and are marked accordingly.

They are clearly marked, but in a ursh it can be an easy mistake to make.

Cheers and see you at the game

Hi

The game as I understand it, is now on this Tuesday which is fine by me. We look forward to welcoming you to the ground and hope you enjoy your visit. Please put aside the troubles over the weekend, they have no place at the game next Tuesday. Like yourselves, we are fans of our respective clubs and the beautiful game that we know and love so well. We are both up and coming sides who enjoy playing the game and also play it well, and more importantly this game will be benficial to both teams as they go into the forthcoming season. This is the reason why I do not want the game to be cancelled this Tuesday.

On Saturday, football was the loser for me on that occasion, but I feel the mud-slinging should stop now. What is done is done, both clubs and fans, and myself in particular have learnt from our experiences and I would now like to see staff and stewards from both clubs work together to ensure the night is trouble free. Whether they were MUFC or FCUM fans is irelevant to me now, i just want football to be the winner, hence my attempt at holding out an olive branch. Enjoy yourselves on Tuesday, have a bite to eat, chat to the stewards and other fans.

This Tuesday football has to be the winner, so lets just enjoy two entertaining sides do what they do best, and provide a mutually beneficial and entertaining game for the supporters. Football is the beautiful game, let it be the winner this Tuesday irrespective of the result.

FCUM, look forward to meeting up with you on Tuesday, perhaps your stewards would like to get in touch with ours as I'm sure we can work together, club and staff to make this great game.

Very best regards to you all

Thanks for the message, I had a sleepless night last night worrying over this, your comments helped.

From the talking Steward at the back of the Chequers end.
My name is Steve from Sale, those of you who know me I have been an ardent Alty Fan now for the last 34 years. Despite the slightly more concilitary nature of CB's last posting, I still take offence to his original posting and his severe criticism of me in particular, and also my colleagues. I was the steward at the back of the Chequers End, who at the time was talking to my son when the problems started. I radioed the head steward immediately I saw the 1st youth climb the fence, There was no way I could have got to the area quickly enough to stop the invasion. Sorry but as a steward I am entitled to talk to away fans and also our home supporters should the need arise, and certainly members of my own family. That is also part of my job as steward, partly peacekeeping and partly to engage the trust of away fans.

The bad behavoiur was down to the fans themselves, the Alty fans played no part in this whatsover. The correct way to deal with this was carried out by the club but they did not get the back up they needed from outside, despite several requests.

Please remember we are all volunteers, Mark Ecky was exactly right in his reply, which smacks of common sense. I love my family very much and wish to be there for them, and my club also, and will not endanger myself or others by putting our life's at risk. Anybody with an ounce of common sense should see that without putting stupid derogatory comments about us.

Fair play, things went wrong today but we are stewards who are responsible for our own safety and our fans and everybody in the ground. The last thing we need when we try and do our best to do our job is criticism when we have not put our lives on the line. We are trained stewards qualified to NVQ standards, but we are not the police. Any head-on confrontation would have made matters worse for everybody. Who would tell my wife I had been attacked and seriously injured, and may not live through it, you CB?!!!

Everybody knows who I am, I have started stewarding as a volounteer once again this season, but will walk away from both this and the club if we get unjust criticism.

Once again, my name is Steve from Sale and a bloody angry one at that, and I certainly do not hide myself with initials.

Altrincham FC First Team / Key players for next season
« on: July 06, 2008, 12:24:54 AM »
Hi everybody, hope you are having a good close season. Thought I would start off a new thread by an overview of Graham's signings, to also ask for everyone's opinion of what we may be able to hope for this season. I refuse to take on a negative attitude about 08/09 and will totally ignore the Blue Square opinion that we are auto-relegation candidates.

In fact I have a sneaky suspicion that we may be a surprise package for mid-table. Perhaps I am being optimistic but hey-ho there is nothing wrong with that is there?  We have kept the nucleas of our best players from last season and I am glad Colin has committed himself to the club once again - my near neighbour, just a few roads down from me; and if you are from our area youre ok!! I am pleased that our goalie is staying as he still has much to offer the club, as has Robbie Lawton. The others have shown commitment to the cause, but I do not want our club to keep players who do not wish to stay. So what of the new signings.

I am very excited about the signing of Chris Denham for one, and also Kevin Street and Matt Doughty. But with all good teams you need to have a mix of experienced players and also lower league players who need the fresh challenge of playing in a higher league, hence the signing of Dale Johnson and Anthony Danylyck. Anthony's reputation from Leek goes before him. He was a highly valued player and captain but has committed himself to Alty and he has my fullest support. I wish him well and I see him as the surprise package for next season. I hope so, and I feel this is what Graham may have seen in him. The same applies to Dale, you have nothing to lose go for it. Alex Meechan we all know from games V Forest Green et al, and I read with interest what the Forest fans are saying on our web. There is a lot of respect there and that does not come easily in non-league!! Grahams signing are clever in the fact that he has captured best players from other relegated teams plus the mix of lower leagers making the higher grade and some established players already conference and league experienced. I am also scanning the Alty website for the name of the new central defender we are looking at. I hope it is who I think it may be, fingers crossed, but it may be a pipe dream. We shall see.

NO DISRESPECT TO OTHER TEAMS but they thought we would be a walkover, well not as far as I and Alty are concerned. I hope the new lads and established team players read this and start believing in themselves, because I am taking a lot of positives for next season. I am stewarding during 08/09 once again, as I miss the bonding with other stewards, and having my ear much closer to the club and to feel more a part of it. This will be my 34th season. I remember the heady days of Gerry Casey, Peter Eales and John Hughes from my first season, not to mention OUR GRAHAM.

I am really looking forward to seeing the new players in action and know they will all battle to prove themselves. I am also looking forward to hearing the banter with the away fans once again, always top at Alty!!

Forget the doom mongers who predict relegation. Here's to a 12-16th place for next season, my prediction.

To the established players, thanks for staying with my team and best of luck for next season. To the new players, here us shouting for you on the terraces as you go out to prove yourselves; we are right behind you. But more than anything else, enjoy yourselves and go for the challenge. I have every confidence in you.

I am REALLY REALLY looking forward to this season.

Best regards to all management, team players old and new, fans, and in particular my fellow stewards.

Altrincham FC First Team / From Steve From Sale - Fundraising
« on: May 08, 2008, 11:27:47 PM »
Hi All

This is Steve from Sale, not posted for ages I'm afraid, but somebody touched on a subject in the fundraising and felt I had to get my oar in.

Someone suggested under 16s older age tournaments. This would be a pretty good idea, especially the bit about feeding the youth team new players, which would help George Heslop. My own team of under 17s from Unicorn Athletic have now finished the season and I have now retired as a manager. The team has now wound up, but three of my players have been referred to George. It would be nice to have an under 15-18s tournament if that is possible. I could get a team together for this from my ex Unicorn players. There are some very good players in the 15-18 age group, and a lot of clubs finish from under 15s, mine have ran to under 17s. Timperley and District is a very strong league, especially in the older age groups and there are some very good players about. If this comes about I for one would enter a team.

Sorry but I felt it worth starting this as a new thread; hope you dont mind.

Any other comments anybody

Cheers for being a great stewarding colleague at Alty FC.
I was delighted when you and the gang turned up to my 50th birthday on the way back from Salisbury, glad you all stayed to the end and enjoyed yourselves.

Rest in peace Skipper, in all our thoughts always.

Fondest regards

Altrincham FC First Team / Other conference clubs

Does anybody else get fed up of the lack of credit from other clubs like I do - the latest one being Rushden and Diamonds. Very few teams seem to give us anything positive, only negative, after we have played them on reading our unflattering website reports from the opposition.

With all due respect to all of them, I think Alty have played some fine football this season, but there is also something known as good sportsmanship. It happens at Junior level, so why not at conference level and beyond.

Less of there we're full time and they are part time, give us credit when due, especially when the odds are stacked against us. By the way, re the points hall for the rest of the season, I think 3 points possible re Oxford game, sticking me neck out there.

Keep up the good work Alty!

Anyone wish to add to this comment?

Steve
