I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the poster on the Burton Albion forum.
It looks like it's Colston Crawford, who writes reports on Burton Albion for the Derby Evening Telegraph.
He helped me out the other year when I was researching a programme article on the former Alty & Burton Albion midfielder, Doug Newton.
I have met him at Moss Lane and he certainly knows his stuff re. Burton.
So, we await his article tomorrow....
The plot thickens.....!

Lets hope our Dalton hasn't got a big giddy!

Interesting, sounds as though he was quite ready to come to Alty and Daltons taken it as a done deal. The Alty statement did sound as though papers had been signed anyway.
Why does he need a holiday anyway, he's been the worlds most tanned man since I first saw him in 1993! (Tinson not Dalton obviously ;))

Ah...but how does he compare with those great suntanned Alty players of yesteryear though?
I speak, of course, of the likes of John Davison, Barry Whitbread and the bronzed legend that was Ronnie 'Ambre Solaire' Ellis.
All of the above used to return to Moss Lane in August each year with golden tans!
Funnily enough, I never recall Mick Carmody or the great Tunna exhibiting even a hint of a suntan.....
-
Anyone get the impression that Tinnson may have us over a barrel somewhat?
He's now in a position to ask for more cash knowing that if we pay we can make it look as if we just jumped the gun a little. However if we refuse we will look rather silly as he can claim that he never agreed to come anyway.
-
Just how will our budget be able to match the lucrative salary that the mighty Nantwich Town may offer him?
Plan B: contact Martin Filson and coax him out of retirement.

But Mr Cult...
There would never be sufficient sun to bronze the great Tunna even if he had ventured away from the pie stall long enough to expose hisself to it.
Also could you imagine the oil slick if all that blubber melted.....a true ecological disaster - they'd have been rescuing guillemots and skuas for months

[/quote]Cult, what was the name of that goalie who never got on the pitch who we called "Baywatch" beacuse of his tan as he continually warmed up?

TA
It was Peter something I'm sure. Stannier perhaps???
We signed him from Macc but he couldn't play under floodlights because of his contact lenses if I recall correctly
-
Yes indeed, Peter Stanier was that man.
According to my research, he was named as Alty's goalkeeping substitute on no less than 45 consecutive occasions.......and never once actually managed to make a first team appearance.....even with the ever-erratic Paul Collings as the first choice keeper!

He played in a friendly at Trafford, a game in which Roger Palmer was given a trial. We lost the game 1-0 and Palmer was never seen in an Alty shirt again.

Any idea of the date of this fixture?
Do you realise how privileged you were to see him play?!
-
It wasn't anything worth writing home about, believe me! I have no idea of the date unfortunately but I remember it taking place.
-
What about Phil Power seemed to have a suntan all year round
-
True
However Phil P was a gardener working for the Fire Service I believe so he had an excuse :)

He was still the same a few months ago when playing fo FC utd.
-
Seriously, I honestly always thought Phil Power was mixed race. Even saw him play at AFC Wimbledon for FCUM a couple of years back and remonstrated with a fan behind who called him a racist name! That is one effer of a suntan!!

Peter Stanier was the keeper, a young lad called Chris Stockell was the sub goalie at the start of the season. Stanier was the worst embarrassment of a keeper ever. If you saw him at half time shots would go through him underneath him everything. Appaling, good job he never got on the pitch. In fact a few of us used to pop in and watch training as well, he was abysmal in that also.
If I remember rightly his claim to fame (he was 28 at the time) was that he had never appeared in a first team match in his entire career despite apparently being at Luton and Tottenham. I mean really? ::) He was just a tanned charlatan.
-
Isn't Phil Power's permatan down to his meditteranean ancestry. I seem to recall him being of Maltese decent.
As for Peter Stanier, he was the reserve keeper the season I made my supporting comeback mainly because of the wizardry of messers Sharratt and Terry. I remember Staniers elaborate touchline warm-up pose ... I'm sorry, I mean routine, and managering to having to limp off one half time kick-in after injuring his groin.
-
Will never forget the look on his face at Macc on the snow when it looked like Collings might get sent off for bringing down their forward outside the area. He was warming up near me and my mate (a Chelsea/Macc fan who knew him from the Macc Sunday league) and I thought he was going to s**t himself he looked that scared!!
-
By the way, the original point of this thread, Tinson. If he isn't coming can we go after Michael Welch who Accy Stanley have just released? Not a bad centre back in my book and a damn sight younger than Tinson!!
-
The plot does thicken .. Looks like the flag might be able come out for another season ;D ;D

If we do, can we check his international clearance pls! :P

UC,
I think that you may well be correct with your recollection.
I remember being out and about in Macc towards the end of the 1996/97 season (when they were bombing along and we were sliding towards relegation) and seeing a character wearing a Macc shirt with Power's number on it and the words "The Maltese Falcon" written across it.

Was it Sidney Greenstreet?

Taken from the Natwich Town FC website:
PLAYER NEWS 30/05/07
Very positive discussions are in progress with a centre half who played in the conference last season, additionally there are another 4 or 5 players all with Unibond experience who will be joining Nantwich for pre-season training with a view to signing.
