Title: Dorking Wanderers Match Thread
Post by: oneedham on October 05, 2022, 11:59:56 AM
I fancy us this Saturday. I think we should go more attacking with Pringle no.10.

                               Byrne

Barrows      Cooper      Toby         E.Jones

                      Lundstram    Osborne

Con-Clarke           Pringle          Colclough

                              Dinanga

Subs   Hulme, J.Jones, Bennett, Brockbank, Malone

Guessing: Kaja and Baines still out

Not a massive Pringle fan to be honest and would prefer Conn-Clarke @ 10. Just highlights how much we by a productive right winger.

I think we need Pringle on the pitch for as long as possible. Makes sense to start him and hook him off should he start flagging. We often bring him on as sub and he seems to have something left in the tank at full time.

Pringle on at 60 for me.

Pringle on at 60 for me.
I think if anything, he keeps the opposition guessing whenever he gets the ball. I mean this as a positive.

Get too tight to him and he can beat you and play someone in, back-off and he can maybe curl one into the top corner. Keeps the ball moving and creates options for me.

Agreed. If Kaja was fit, then would have Conn-Clarke at no.10.
Anyone know how long Kaja is injured for? Needs regular games to get match fit.

You're old fashioned. You're also 100% correct.

Barring injury why would you not keep the same team?
Better tracking back to avoid the goal Gateshead scored other night.

Not heard anything, hopefully it is a case of him being injured rather than leaving as potentially he is very good .

I get the impression a better question is how long will Kaja be fit for. The answer seems to be measured in minutes

Hopefully we can kick on and get 3 points to keep us on the winning trail

Alty 3 - 2 Dorking

Agreed - it certainly appears to be one to file under this category as it stands.

Despite his spectacular contribution vs. SC**thorpe, he was absolutely blowing after 10 minutes.

He may be a gifted footballer but perhaps not an athlete.

Most players blow out of their arse's after 10 mins, until your body is warmed up and get a second wind. Plus he was bloody everywhere in those 10 mins.

Pringle seems to want to look forward whenever he can.
Also he seems able to find a nice little ball quite often and will track back too.
Given what we have available I'd start hi regularly

My reservation regarding Pringle is that, to date, he has been far more effective when he has come on as an 'impact' substitute for the closing 20 minutes or so than on the occasions when he has featured in the starting XI.

Whilst taking your point it is much easier to evaluate what you most often see.
There is no doubt of his effectiveness having been introduced from the bench.
I just wonder whether enough has been seen of him as a starter for worthwhile evaluation to be permitted.
If, for arguments sake he started, played as he can and allowed us to score 2 or 3 before being withdrawn, might that not be better than hurling him into the fray in an attempt to rescue a situation?

I think they maybe a banana skin if we defend the way we have been doing, expecting an open game with quite a few goals. 3-3

Indeed; we have to stand firm in the first half. They're a footballing side like us so hopefully a chance to build confidence.

I tend to agree Barry. When he has started a game he seems unable to last a full 90 mins. Having said that, he is a great asset to the team

The feel factor is definitely back…. With players such as Kozzy, Marriot and Baines to come back into the team following big injuries, I truly believe we can secure a mid-table finish. The squad fighting for places, a strong bench and with us behind them, we will have nothing to fear!

A repeat score line from Tuesday today… 3-1 Alty 🥳

Not as easy as we think this game. Going for 1-1, attendance 1593. Watch out for James McShane as per websites.

So far, so good we escaped our traditional slow start with a couple of early scares.

We definitely deserve to be ahead but this game is far from over - you can see why Dorking's results have been quite extreme, they're remarkably similar to us and want to play it out from the back - which Marcus has cottoned on to.

Hopefully we kick on rather than sit back.

Odd interview from their manager (found on you tube via their TWITTER)
Seems to accept the blame, then says some of their playerd were sh!t
Credits Alty and the suggests they could have won it in the second half

Very bizarre interview, the fella sounds like a bit of a fruit loop. Owner / manager situations always end in tears.

Now that every team will have done their homework on them, they'll take a lots of pastings if they continue to insist on playing out of the back like that.

Must be exactly what we looked like 2 years ago.

If you search "Bunch of Amateurs" on YouTube there is a whole series on Marc White and Dorking.

He must be a little bit mad, but I find him very likeable with it 😂

Yes very enjoyable, good performance and great result.

Far fewer costly mistakes at the back and taking more chances up front obviously making a massive difference.

Credit to Parky, Sorvs and the lads on the big improvements all round compared to a few weeks ago.

Thought Marcus did very well, often winning the ball against 1 or 2 of their defenders and creating problems (e.g. our first goal from Ryans free kick), linking up well and deserved his goal.

Great time to be getting a bit of form with FA cup coming up next weekend.

When did we last score 4? :o

Never as a full-time team - we have made history!

I accept that historically Pringle hasn't lasted 90 minutes.

I have put forward my views on this already.

Messrs Barrows and Jackson, amongst others have also demonstrated an inability to last a whole game with tangibly less criticism

Brad has comeback from a long term injury, I thought he was a lot better today and is on the right path.

Barrows also coming back from an injury layoff. It's hardly his fault he got concussed today.

Barrows played 39 games last year at Lynn, totalling nearly 3,200 mins (per transfermarkt). Think he's just been a bit unlucky so far.

That simply isn't a like-for-like comparison though, is it?

Both Barrows and Jackson are in the process of regaining full fitness after incurring injuries.

Alas, I was unable to attend yesterday's game owing to ill health (on the evidence of the result, perhaps I should stay away more often...?).

Consequently, I listened to the Radio Robins coverage of the match via Radio Alty.

If I may offer a couple of observations...

The principal commentator (Jonny Crowther, not Paul Salt) needs to concentrate more on actually describing the action and where the ball is on the pitch. I don't want to hear some waffle which is then abruptly interrupted by a cry of "And Dinanga's in!" without knowing the context! A rather frustrating listening experience, I'm afraid.

He would also be advised to rein in the excessive use of the adjective 'brilliant' before he morphs into this character!

Love the facial expressions on this image after Colclough's free kick had opened the scoring:
