Altrincham FC First Team / Re: I bet our game was better
« on: November 27, 2007, 09:45:12 AM »
First time I've seen Alty live on TV and it was very entertaining - a good advert for non league & for Alty FC.
Overall Alty played well and the lads were unlucky not to get a draw, just a couple of mistakes at the back is all it takes and you lose. I think we've all known for years we need a proper left back, possibly the Millwall cash (if there's any left after costs) could get us one on loan or maybe buy one (!?!).

Also well done Graham! Very entertaining interviews and made very fair comments about the game. He certainly earned us a few more friends last night and I'd hope Setanta now show a few more Alty games as a result.

Both were / are great assets for the club - quality players. Just hope we can keep hold of Chris Senior as his performances (and goals) will be attracting attention.

One difference is that Chris hasn't yet mastered the celebratory somersault/ flip thing that Rod does. Suggest he doesn't give it a try though as we need him fit.

Did Statto not donate money towards the bar extension in the past?

I agree with what you say about Val - he is a reliable defensive midfielder who makes crucial tackles, breaks down opposition attacks and sets us going forward. We always seem more solid with him in the side.
However, he has had a few injuries and is not getting any younger.
Is there anyone else in the squad who can do a similar defensive midfielder role if Val is not available (Peyton?). Could Rob Lawton be trained how to be a good tackler and become one? He's got a good engine and it would get hin in the centre of the pitch (not on the right wing).

2-0 up - Brilliant so far.

BBC says James Deans' goal was from 35 yards! Jesus - he must have a foot like a traction engine.

JESUS what an afternoon. That was too bloody tense.
WELL DONE LADS - 3 POINTS!
Hopefully we can push on from here, attack a bit more at home and give Chris Senior a run of games.
Now we just need another keeper. :-\

the commentators earlier even had the cheek to say Moss Lane isn't the most pleasant of surroundings and you can smell manure coming off the allottments.

well, at least you don't have to wade through cow sh*t to get there like at the Abbey.

(pah! if we're gettin beat I might as well have a go at the commentators)

Senior and Colin on

Sedge and Joe off

sounds like a 4-4-2. Earlier changes than normal (by about 30mins? ;))

I think that's a bit unfair - possibly GH was letting Dalton run things for one game, to see if a different approach would make a difference. It didn't.

Altrincham FC First Team / Can't just blame the manager
« on: September 15, 2007, 08:40:23 PM »
just got back from Woking and it was a very poor game.

We started with the kind of formation that a lot of people have disagreed with (Aspinall at LB, Lawton RM, O'Neill up front etc.) and then changed with about 30 mins to go with a midfield of Potts, Sedge, Lawton, Peyton and then Clancy at LM, with Senior coming on up front for Joe (something more like what a lot on here have suggested). To be fair to GH it made very little difference - we were still poor and that's down to the players, not the manager. Some have said we have a better team 'on paper' than last season. I don't see it. There's still little creativity. Can;t think of an Alty player who actually played quite well today, possibly Shotton, who looked quite solid in defence.

Aspinall did OK at LB until the 90th min blunder (not all his fault as Tinson seemed involved too), but the writing was on the wall by then. Clancy came on & sliced his first pass in to the crowd and then fell over, probably a bit nervous cos, to be fair, after that he looked OK - couple of nice crosses and got forward more. Still think Peyton might be our best bet at LB.

Without a solid defensive midfielder (Val) we always look shakey and different line-ups seem to make little difference. One thing that would be better would be Senior instead of Joe for a few games. Senior is busy and rattled their keeper a little today, Joe does not really worry opposition defences.

Still, i don't think we're as sh*t as Northwich.

1-3 sounded harsh. Lots more shots on goal by Alty today according to BBC, which is an improvement on the start of the season

At least Northwich & Droylsden got hammered

Now for the farce that is England

Indeed, credit to 'MIckey' Heathcote for bringing some better players in
