Title: Alfreton Town : match thread
Post by: taxi Phil on April 20, 2017, 10:27:48 AM
As things stand, my final visit to Moss Lane. If we get the mysterious major investment, and appoint a proper manager, I could be swayed.....but I'm not holding my breath.

This being Alty, we'll probably win because I expect us to lose to yet another piss poor team. They've scored as many as Chorley who are in the playoff spots.....but are the only team in the division with a worse defence than us (conceded 91).

There were five goals in the game when Jim Harvey's ridiculous late substitutions threw three points away at their place, I reckon there could be even more on Saturday. I take us to lose 4-3 having led 1-0 and 2-1.

I'll probably miss a couple of goals while chatting to people I won't see at Moss Lane again unless Rowley astonishes me.

I pretty much share those sentiments Romero, but having seen our poor side wipe the floor with Alfreton (and still lose) that day, I actually think we might beat them. They are dreadful, we are dreadful, so yeah probably a 4-3.

Gifted them a win at theirs. We were a far better team.

We will win.

They have lost their previous six matches, so I'll go for an ultimately hollow victory - as per last season's final home fixture against doomed Welling United.

Both Damian Reeves and James Lawrie need three goals to overtake Sean Miller (who hasn't kicked a ball for us since 20th December 2016) and become our leading goalscorer for the season.

that is one hell of a statistic .. what did we do to deserve this?

God only knows who the starting 11 will be, let alone the bench.

With an eye on their form, 3-1 Alty.

Can't wait for the final whistle and draw a line under this seasons home campaign.

I'm in the Yorkshire Dales for the weekend so thankfully my season is over. Nailed on home win as the last home league games I've missed were Aldershot, Welling and Worcester.....that's right, I haven't seen us win a league game since Woking in January last year!

It sounds from RR that not only are Alfreton beating us, but they're outplaying us too.

Bloody woeful! Clear the decks and start again.

If MD stays we're in big trouble.

Nowhere near the truth. I'd be surprised if there were more than 550.

Felt a bit sorry for McWilliams but putting densmore in midfield made a massive difference.

Much better 2 nd half when we went 4 4 2.

Heard a whisper the managerial decision will be made tomorrow

That makes sense to be honest. It's as flat as it gets at Alty right now and the first of a series of changes needs to take place asap.

If that's the case then I can't see it being anoybody other than Matt Doughty.

The managerial change needs to somebody fresh with experience of where we're going.  Although Matt and Robbie were great players for the club the time isn't right for them to be at the helm.

I agree, but if we are bringing in a manager from another club, then surely you'd wait until the final games have been played.

Really hope that if the new man (presuming it's a man) is appointed early next week, he doesn't take charge of the defeat at Tamworth.

I wouldn't blame Matt and Robbie for not wanting to go so put Moult and Dens in charge (or the under 10's manager or someone), it won't affect the result.

It seems high because it was high. Lucky if 500 were inside the place.

A dire performance especially the first half..

I was a bit miffed that they didn't have a tribute to Ugo Ehiogu. Thought that was a tad disrespectful ....

Not sure why we debate this every time?

It includes season ticket holders, many of who are not currently going for varying reasons.

From the pictures I have seen then 550 looks about right.

Which is actually one of the few positives at the moment.  If we can get 550 people to watch these fraudsters then there is hope.

New leader, new manager, there has never been a better time to come into Altrincham FC and make a difference on and off the field in my opinion.

Made or announced? If it's to be made but not announced until a later date then that leaves it quite open but if it's to be announced tomorrow for me it's down to 4 people. With only the Evostick league season finishing today but the play offs yet to be contested I can't see us announcing that any manager that's still involved this season has got the job so that leaves Tom Baker of Trafford,Martin McIntosh of Buxton,Paul Carden of Warrington Town or Matt Doughty.

Alfreton were on top for large portions of the game. I never thought I would see Densmore score for us again.

It's just amazing how many half touches here were that resulted in us losing possession. Far too frequently did we have control of the ball. I presume that was Hobson playing as 17? Totally inadequate.

Apparently there were interviews yesterday at the club, also in the program GR states that the new manager will be in position before the end of the season.

Also new investment hopefully announced in the next few months along with a new pitch perimeter fence mentioned in the program.

Hope this all happens for the benefit of us all.

And you're quite right Ecky the debatable attendance figure is as a pointless as the persistent Rowley Out

there were approx 580 people in the ground today, however I'm sure sure that includes all the kids, no bad thing by the way that.

Poor game no atmosphere from Alty however great effort from  the Alfreton fans..... and their chanting sounded like ALTY  ALTY best we can can get currentlyy unfortunately

Agree that it's definitely not MD, but I wouldn't rule out a currently out-of-work manager - there are plenty of half decent ones about. The likes of Gary Brabin could have been tempted, you never know.

Agree too not MD however as said before Densmore looked pretty good in midfield to be fair, we've also missed his leadership on the pitch massively. We could do worse than the densmore, moult combination  in my opinion, however can't really see that. I still wonder if Gary Jones coaching is an option? However after what I saw today it's a massive decision and really really really hope we can get it right this time.

Densmore will run games next season if he stayed (and was medically up to it).  Problem is that he will be on Conference National money now and it will be quite a drop.

In a lovely world of course he would commit to the cause and dragging us back up but not sure football works like that. Be great if it did...

In reality yes it's about the players getting the best contracts they can for themselves and their families. I guess I was just hoping after 2-3 seasons out we'd see a player prepared to take a reduction to evo-stick  wages to try and drag HIS team back up to where they belong. Comical and sentimental stupid football dreams that no longer exist I guess? Comic book football hero's  are no more today..... Where's Roy Race when you need him!

How do you work that out. The ball was going in regardless. The goalie jumped and contrived to open his legs at the same time. It was already in before he dived on it,  I was stood directly behind you.

He got both hands to the ball and contrived to shovel it through his legs. Clearly an OG on one viewing. If it looks different on Robins TV I'll gladly apologise.

If he was being paid for the Alty job, if he was gaining experience, if he was adding to his CV then I disagree with him but each to their own.

There's no free speech when a forum is a paid for entity. You could be refused access at anytime as we all could. It's a paid for facility made available  out of generosity, not a right. Stand on a box in a London park for free speech
