Title: Oxford City Match Thread
Post by: Alty Dave on April 17, 2024, 09:29:00 AM
Let's finish off the regular season in style. Strongest team and push for another 3 points. Then afterwards, find out whom we have at home next week and celebrate the player of the season awards in Sports Hall. My team would be;

              Ross

Banks Cooper Baines Jones

    Osbourne  Hancox

Amaluzor    CCC    Newby

          Linney

Subs, Angus, Mooney, Kosylo, Roscoe Gould

Only spot up for grabs is rw and we have players who can play there.

Alty 3-0 Oxford (Linney x2, Banks)

Dave's selection is definitely the one to go for.
We've already surpassed my hopes and expectations for the season and it's (hopefully) far from over yet!

Let's also avoid further injuries in the playoffs too. Phil, use substitutes wisely like I know you both will. Especially if we are a couple of goals to the good.

Hopefully get 2 or 3 up and withdraw three of Amulazor, Linney, CCC or Baines.
Ruthless first half needed.

On paper I'd withdraw Alex Newby before Justin Amaluzor, the former has had a lot of minutes whereas the latter has recently returned from injury.

But the management team will have a better handle on individual player conditions - they seem pretty confident on Alex's stamina whereas maybe Justin is one you naturally protect more.

Either way, I'm glad we've started to play our strongest team and withdraw nice and early when safe to, rather than rotating from the start and running everyone close to 90.

Apparently there's standing water on the pitch at the moment. Could be postponed ;-)

Game will be absolutely fine - pitch hasn't been used for a while and it's a fairly bright / sunny morning.

Should be a good day for it! Let's get this done.

I think it will be fine.

Where did I hear it? My wife was at the club doing Yoga. She said the brown bit in front of the main stand had water on it. Rest of the pitch looks good.

Just listening to the Ollie Crankshaw interview at HT.  Did I miss something?  His injury was way worse than just his ACL.  Sounds like he is slowly progressing.  He said September/October for a possible return.   If we can hold this lead how good would it be for him to come back to an EFL club?!  We can dream right?!

There's videos of him on his feet doing some light ball work, I'm no expert but you'd like to think he'd be in a pretty strong position come the start of the season?

Look forward to seeing him return.

Obviously getting the 3 points today was the main aim, so job done on that front.

Once again Ethan Ross made some crucial saves and without those we might not have a home play-off game next week, arguably deserved to be man of match. Saying that, Justin A is superb at powering forward and gaining ground. Mitch Hancox very solid in midfield.

Bit airy-fairy in front of goal at times though, trying to walk it in or trying chancy flicks? Good to keep another clean sheet though to take us into the play-offs.

Well done Parky, Sorvs and the lads on a superb season, you'll be backed all the way on Wednesday!

My concern from today was how much room they had in the CM area in the first half. Their 10 looked decent.
Think Hancox is good, but we miss the energy levels and ground cover of Marriott, even Wilson.
Just hope we make sure we close down quicker on Wed.
Need Amulazor to continue with those drives.
Well done to the management and team to get us this far. No reason why we can’t do it.

I thought Justin brought his b game today. His touch wasn't there. He is a game changer when they NGS are going right but was happy when he was replaced today.
