Post by: Jezza on March 10, 2019, 02:35:25 PM
Watmore scored for sunderland yesterday and was then taken off injured after a red card challenge.

hopefully he is ok and its not serious...it was his ankle so not related to his previous injuries

He moved very fast to get the goal, but the tackle was horrendous - again largely because of his speed

Saw the foul this morning. Duncan looked in real pain, and he's not one to feign injury. Hope he's OK.

One of the problems he faces is that, in that league, there are too many hoofers who simply can't cope with his pace or skill.

He may - only may -  be luckier in a higher league

It was a horrendous challenge. The lad has had some of the worst luck.

It must be affecting him mentally.

Unfortunately he is at the age where he needs to be fit and playing all season to reach his potential, I don't think he will reach it because of his injuries.

Gutted for him and have always kept myself up to date with his career since leaving us.

Southgate thought highly of him at under 21 and if he didn't get the knee injury he would have had an England senior cap by now. Maybe not a regular place but defo a cap or two because he was flying at the time.

Doesn't sound like the right time for this debate, but I do think people underestimate what it takes to win a full international cap, I would have been surprised if he got one.

Plenty of people suggesting he should look at other avenues - I disagree, the timing on this one is quite good for him to (finally) have a solid pre-season.

Hopefully his team can be back at Championship level by then; I agree that I think it would suit his game better.

Not underestimating. At the time of the first injury he had been player of the tournament for the under 21 success with Southgate.
He had turned John Stones inside out a couple of weeks before and gave Arsenal's Bellerin two hard games. One of my mate who supports Arsenal said he was the best player on the pitch. He was playing and scoring in the Premiership.
Only say a cap or two is because Southgate will always include a youngster or two for friendly games for experience.
Unfortunately I feel this opportunity may have passed Duncan by but saying that Wilson is in the squad now after two knee injuries.
Anyway I feel for the lad.

Heartbreak for Sunderland in the last minute today.I'm guessing  Duncan will still be with them next season.

I was hoping that Sunderland would win today..

The good news is that I heard that an American wants to invest in the club.
