Our walking football session on Wednesday mornings (9.00-10.00am) has been running for nine months now. The weekly sessions are a friendly, social activity, open to all ages and abilities. With recent demand to add another WF session, for those who work during the day, we have decided to give it a go.
As of Wednesday 12th October, we will be launching a SECOND weekly session: Wednesday evenings 8.30-9.30pm. These new Wednesday evening sessions will be FREE throughout October and November.
AFC volunteer and lifelong AFC fan, Colin Mitchell, has attended Walking Football from day one and says: “I have a great time at the walking football sessions as some of my Alty friends go, so it gives us the chance to catch up. It's a good opportunity to meet new people too. When the hour is over you know you've had a good workout. No running allowed obviously but it is still a great way to help keep fit, I usually do about 3 miles walking every session. Suitable for all, so I would advise anyone to give it a go."
If you would like to know more, call 0161 928 1045 or turn up to a session and try it out.

I'm going to try and get to these new sessions. I work in the daytime so could never make the original ones but it's something I'd quite like to try.

That's great to hear, it will be good to see some new faces. Bring along a drink and wear some casual/sports clothing suitable for indoors.

Cheats! ;D
If I lived local I'd be up for some of this. Greta idea, hope it continues to thrive.

You would get there first wouldn't you.
I think half these fellas will WALK into the first team

I'm definitely up for this too.

I'm up for it. Happy to bow out if I'm too young.

Hi Jack it clearly states open to all ages so hopefully will see you all there

However if its maximum numbers or having a twenty two year old puts off more vintage players I can play elsewhere

Just a reminder, this Wednesday sees the start of our new Walking Football session, 8.30-9.30pm. Free through October and November (then £3 a session December onwards).
Alternatively, morning sessions 9.00-10.00am are available each week £3.00, including hot refreshments afterwards.

I'm hoping to make it down - just worried it might be too strenuous :-)
-
I've currently got a trapped nerve in my back which will rule me out this week but I'll hopefully be ok for next week.
-
Brilliant, we have quite a lot of positive interest. See you all there :)
-
I'll do my best but I have an in-growing toenail - Can go in goals though - where I played as a kid!!

It's like the doctors surgery thread .. ;D

AMAZING game tonight, well done all!!! Eight players turned up for our first evening session.
Shirts team stormed ahead 7-1 by the second quarter. Bibs pulled it back to 9-7 by the final quarter.
Only to lose out in the last few minutes. Final score: Shirts 12 Bibs 9

It was great fun, both playing and social, many thanks to Jude for helping us newcomers. I enjoyed myself, even though my toe hurt. Just given my feet a salt bath, Carys from Chester was upset because I used the washing-up bowl.
It's good fun, you should try it.

Playing walking football not the salt bath

YES STEVE!!! cracking performance, especially some of those saves against Pukka Pieman 🙌

Shirts and Bibs ?.......no wonder modern players are so soft......at school it was shirts vs 'skins' i.e. no shirts.......6 stone skinny boys getting stuck in
We might have considered bibs if it was snowing or several degrees below freezing (gravel pitch frosted over)

i thought Jim Harvey had a long injury list until I read this thread. ;)
Are the Bibs for those staying for a meal afterwards ;)
On a serious note folks, I truly think it is a great initiative and I wish the team all the best, if I was lucky enough to live closer I would most certainly have come along to join in (complete with Bib)
Have fun and good luck with it.
