If Altrincham did get promotion
« on: August 16, 2009, 05:52:56 PM »

I know its only been three games but I was just wondering.

How many players from Altrincham could make the step up from Blue Square premier to League two ? ??? :
And do you think Altrincham will turn full time if they make the play off/near spots this year?

This thread is ridiculous.

We would clearly piss League 2 with this squad.   ;D

I agree.....we've been ready for the football league since 1978.

Without trying to be negative i see our results so far as making us 7 points further away from relegation rather than 7 points closer to promotion.

If alty did get promotion unless we got bought over, turning full time would not be a sensible option and theres plenty of players who could make the step up quite easily.

We have had an excellent start to the season, couldn't have expected more. We will not win the league or threaten to, but we have made significant progress in establishing ourselves in a professioinal league where some clubs have huge budgets in comparison.

We will stay up, we are now very savvy for this league. Lets just enjoy it. Rock on GH/KMc

I don't see why we wouldn't go full time if we went up? Extra revenue from prize money, gates and sponsorship etc. The problem with the squad is part-time suits a few of them - chris with his physio, col at crewe training the kids, greg with his studies and his girlfriend. That's the question.

Our average attendance last season was 1086.

End of.

7 Points

Ebbsfleet - new team in total turmoil
Barrow - a team that was at the foot of the league last year
Hayes - woeful and clearly a team for relegation

I think we will know more after the next 5 games where we could even sturggle to get another point nevermind a win.

We dont have a pray to get promoted but it is nice to dream and dreams can come true.

Full time - we would have to but i would vote that we would go straight back down if we did and full time might put all the past few years hard work to waste.

Our average attendance last season was 1086.

End of.

A lot of people have this notion that promotion would involve much larger attendances and hence provide much needed revenue to fund a full time lifestyle........Well, it won't (see last seasons av above)

The people of this town will no more want to come and watch Altrincham play Chesterfield  than they do for say Oxford or Cambridge. They will continue to do what they do now - watch Utd and City on the telly in a pub

There would be a marginal increase in home support and better away support. Sponsorship income I suspect would only increase by a nominal amount too.
As has been said many many times on this forum, the move to full time is huge financial jump and there are many other things besides wages to drain the bank balance.

Of course there is nothing to say you cannot be in the FL and be part time; except of course no genuine part-time team will ever get promoted in the first place.

Ambition for AFC :- Top half BSP club, FAT challengers, FA Cup 4th round, CSC winners, never an AGM cup entrant !

I was musing this today. I think we're good enough to beat teams in the bottom 3rd, draw or win with the ones in the middle 3rd and anything you get of the top 8 is a bonus. It's only small steps but it's progress from where we were even 2 years ago.

I suppose really we'd have looked for 5 points from these games, the next 3 you probably wouldn't be surprised if Histon did us again but would hope to perform well against a newly promoted club at home and would want to give Kiddy a game at least.

Course the beauty of football is that it never, ever works out that way (last season 'looks a decent start but going to get harder in that Rushden to Oxford batch of games!')
