Does anyone remember the current West Didsbury & Chorlton first team manager, Andy Nelson, playing for us?

I cannot remember him at all!

I am in contact with the club professionally and did a bit of research on their wbesite and found this;  http://www.westdidsburychorlton.co.uk/club/Committee/view/293089

I'm sure there will be some folk with long memories out there with stories of his great performances for us :-)

I have no recollection whatsoever of this character, nor can I find any trace of him ever having recorded an appearance for Alty in a competitive fixture.

Mind you, I'm also struggling to locate any other reference to him having played for Bury!

Over to you, roytonmike.....

Even if he actually was "on the Robins' books in the early 1980s" (and who/what was the source for that dubious snippet, I wonder?), that is not the same as having played for Altrincham, as is claimed about him on that West Didsbury & Chorlton website!

Also, has anybody managed to corroborate the additional statement that his "Highlights included playing against Man United at Old Trafford in the League Cup 5th Round"?

There is only one Andy nelson listed in the football league players database and he played in the South between 57 and 68, and went on to manage Charlton.

I have no recollection of him ever pulling on an Alty shirt.

United only played 3 home league cup ties between 80 and 95 - forest in 83, Southampton in 91 and Portsmouth in 94.  He doesn't mention any of these clubs (and you'd think he'd mention playing under Brian Clough!).  He certainly didn't play any league games for any of these clubs.

I read an article recently in (I think) When Saturday Comes about how the internet has rumbled the football bullsh*tter.

Nearly everywhere I've been and disclosed I'm an Alty fan I have met people who "used to play for them".

This article presumably...

Funnily enough, the comments section underneath mentions how people now use "on the books" as a loophole!

I wonder if JTH remembers Herr Stahl, the german exchange teacher we had in third year? Can't quite remember if he'd "had trials with" or "was on the books of" Bayern Munich, but given the display of skills in the Staff v First Xl game there was every possibilty.
