Danylyk on bench according to Radio commentary
-
No feature for Lawton and Danylyk
Surely one of them must be on the bench? If not then we have attacking options there and nothing else!
-
Hmmmmmmmmmm did you miss the goalie on the bench?
-
Only 4 subs?
-
Suth Notts signing in. Afternnon all.
-
looking forward to this for some unknown reason.
Sucker for punishment?!! ;)
-
denham is on the bench also.near one up to us then
-
Not too defensive - say that again with our recent performances!!!
-
0-1 ... Bugger
-
FFS >:( >:( >:(
-
Afternoon all, come on Reds, regroup and let's get one back!
-
Bollocks...... >:(
-
buggeration. I have been convinced all week of a two nil win for Alty.
-
we seem to playing ok. The next goal is massive
-
If James Jennings is looking a good player we may as well give up now. His brief spell at Alty he was appalling!
-

I thought he was quite good in his brief spell with us. I'd have him in our team now without question.
-
Get Densmore back in defence and put a Danylyk on.
-
heading for another thumping I'm afraid.
-
Here we go again. >:( >:( >:(
-
f**k.
-
BSN north here we come......... >:(
-
Pick a number between 2 and 9.
VofD is defending champ.
-
I now declare Pedants Corner well and truly open.
BSN north means blue square north north.
(sorry, anything to take my mind of the game today...)
-
Pick a number between 2 and 9.
VofD is defending champ.
I'll go for 5 today ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
-
The draw at Bath was a key game...after a slight revival, we should couldn't hold on.... very depressing.
It's going to be a long season!
C'mon Alty
-
Given that we've got nothing to lose now, I would be inclined to bring on Denham asap.
-

I'd swap James Jennings for Ryan Brown ASAP.

Time to get a player in midfield who can break things up. With Danylyk festering on the bench at both Eastbourne & Crawley we conceded 12 goals, 2 already today. Since being substituted at Histon when 1-0 down at HT he's hardly played and yet over the past two seasons he's been a consistent player in the centre. Obviously GH old boys are not flavour of the month!!!!
-

Just realized that. I stand corrected.

I think we will struggle to score between 2 and 9 today, so we might nick a 2-2.

A good spot, but you just missed closing time.
Sorry.
As you're entirely innocent but have made an error for which you are not responsible you are officially docked 18 points. Don't bother appealing.
-
Obviously GH old boys are not flavour of the month!!!!
If you discount the fact that most of the team are still GH old boys and also bear in mind that some of the players GH had were quite poor anyway (not Antony I would like to stress) your assertion would leave us a bit thin on the ground?
-
Good afternoon folks!
Dare I say we're not out of this one yet?
-
Brighton 0 - 1 FC United HT
-
whos this JD?
-
Are you telling me that Ken McKenna had no say in the signings because to me that seems hardly believable.
-
hi JD
-
This is posh: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/gamecast?id=296487&cc=5739
Just got back from Jennifers dad's daughter's birthday meal!
-
I am advised that signings were the province of our previous manager.
Ken was rarely consulted with his main raison d'etre being the coaching of the players available
-
Brighton 0 - 1 FC United HT
"FC United of the Evo-Stik Premier Division are leading at L1 leaders Brighton through Nicky Platt"
.I watch Corrie, that's David Platt's brother isnit?
-
Jennings is pissing all over us at the moment.
-
And again like the Red Sea the defence parts to accommodate the opposition!!!!
-
GARBAGE >:( >:( >:(
-
did they just say u's 3-0 up
i wen to the kitchen to get a bag of crisps
-
The thing that pisses me off the most is that the best left/wing back we've had since coming back into this division can't get near the match day squad let alone the team!
Beggers belief I'm afraid.
-
think it's going to be a long season.
we need someone that can score and then we might start getting a few results, our forwards are very poor
-
Who's that then???
-
If Matt Doughty was anywhere near fit to play, surely he would be at least on the bench?
I'd love to see him back too but I don't think it's going to happen any time soon.
-
Doughty gone to Nantwich!
-
think it's going to be a long season.
we need someone that can score and then we might start getting a few results, our forwards are very poor
We could have Wayne Rooney up front, but if we concede 3+ goals every week we're still not going to win football matches.
-
My Nantwich supporting colleague says that he's a long way from Conference ready yet
-
I'm afraid we'll lose every game by this score and more until either Smithy returns at the back, or a decent centre half arrives at the club.
-
if we score 4= we will :P
-
Well, I'm going for a poo!
-
bollocks all over now
-
Compared to last season, we took a point away against Cambridge and now we are being hammered thats 4!!!
-
we lose two players to other clubs,CL retires 2 get long term injuries, but the rest of the squad is the same
-
Please advise what Somner, Baynes and Milne have added to the squad, surely Ken must start asking questions about his tactics????
-
27Andrew Milne
off for19Mark Beesley
M
9Michael Twiss
off for 10Chris Denham
-
I can accept losing every week to a better team.
It's the clear lack of fight, passion and belief that is the most unforgiveable thing. And a goal difference of -30 is an embarrassment.
-
I'm afraid we'll lose every game by this score and more until either Smithy returns at the back, or a decent centre half arrives at the club.
smith is playing
-
I'm afraid we'll lose every game by this score and more until either Smithy returns at the back, or a decent centre half arrives at the club.
James Smith is playing this afternoon.
I concur with your second point though.
On this evidence, would anyone back against us conceding 100 goals this season?
-
We are now becoming a laughing stock. >:( >:( >:(
-
its now got to the stage that teams are saying how many can we get today, not can we beat Alty
-
This seems to sum it up:
65 now 4-0 as Wright steals in ahead of static Alty after corner half cleared
70 alty playing with no confidence
-
the new manager gave us a short term confidence boost, that has been killed off by playing the top 3 teams in the league, now the boost has gone were back to where we were the players are not good enough
-
at least Blackburn might concede more than us today.. 7 so far
-
Densmore suspsended last season and Danylyk in the heart of midfield. Oh we didn't concede a goal, now there's an unusual coincidence!
Once again Eastbourne 5, Crawley 7 , Cambridge 4 (and may be more) and Danylyk kicking his heels on the bench.
-
and Macc conceded 6 so far....
-
the belief has gone thats for sure, sounds like we are full of fear
-
So you're leaving Densmore out of the team and putting Antony in instead are you?
Not picking an argument just asking
-
No simply put Densmore into a defensive role and put more steel in midfield. Though we'll never know, for me today's midfield should have comprised Danylyk, Hewson & Lawton with Clee, Somner out and Densmore in defence.
-
That says it all a player not good enough shipped out and he comes on.
Here's a question how many of Ken's "first choice players" will still be around when BSN comes around?
-
No simply put Densmore into a defensive role and put more steel in midfield. Though we'll never know, for me today's midfield should have comprised Danylyk, Hewson & Lawton with Clee, Somner out and Densmore in defence.
No Clee? Arguably our most likely player to get through a defence surely.
-
probably miss the pen next..
-
another pen miss again this week,it goes from bad to worse
-
probably miss the pen next..
probably the most disturbing thing about it all
-
surprise surprise.. all confidence has gone.
-
probably miss the pen next..
There was an inevitability about it ....
-
PATHETIC
-
If we cant score from the spot we really are in deep sh*t-
-
What an absolute shambles. BSN here we come and we'll be there for a long time.
-
Hopelessly depressing.
-
Here's a question how many of Ken's "first choice players" will still be around when BSN comes around?
How dare you use the term "Ken's first choice players" when he got saddled with most of this sh*t by Heathcote!
We can all see that you've got an agenda on here today, that much is clear.
-
might as well just plan for next season now, we're no hopers
Its not over till the fat lady sings- i will think about next season when the mathmatics tell me its over
-
No simply put Densmore into a defensive role and put more steel in midfield. Though we'll never know, for me today's midfield should have comprised Danylyk, Hewson & Lawton with Clee, Somner out and Densmore in defence.
Hewson?
He's knackered after twenty minutes!
-
we need someone to give the club 5 million then we might get a few goodish players
-
What agenda is that, to see an Alty team play a bit more solid and concede less goals? The stats show that. Please elaborate further if you have an issue with what I have to say.
-
Really depressing. These penalty misses are really compounding the misery.
-
If James Jennings is looking a good player we may as well give up now. His brief spell at Alty he was appalling!
ehh??? James Jennings was awesome when he was with us...
-
greg young
-
big loss youngy
-
8pts from safety now
-
oh well bye everyone
-
greg young
plus centre forwarders may give us a v small ray of hope
-
Unfortunately KM tactics are sussed, 1 up front is not going to get us any goals. 5 in midfield etc. Other teams know how to go at us to get the early goals, tactics need to change occassionally and give the other teams something to think about.
-
So what (constructively) do people suggest we do to try to improve things?
-
As daft as these scores are, we are really only a Greg Young away from being half decent and competing in this league. The only positive I can think of is that FGR will be too complacent against us on Tuesday.
-
So what (constructively) do people suggest we do to try to improve things?
3-4-3 was a catalyst to better form a couple of seasons ago - and we have nothing to lose!

correction 6 as rushden have just scored

and this might offer some hope: Beesley impressing (but can't score)

We still need goals though. 'A Greg Young' will assist in damage limitation which is a good start but we need more than that

Best post of the day (if you're stats are correct)
-
Twiss, Denham, Clee, Baynes, Reeves, Beesley - there's got to be goals there somewhere surely.
We have not got a decent left back in the squad and we desperately need cover at centre back.
-

Really? If that was the case we could class some of our results as unlucky, getting draws etc. We're getting tonked week in, week out.
We're f**king awful and noway could we be considered anywhere near half-decent!
-
So what (constructively) do people suggest we do to try to improve things?

Get some investment and get some players into the club in January .. ahhh .... That dreams gone ...

I make it the same. Four games without scoring. Twiss scored 2 mins into second half of previous game (v Bath). 403 minutes!
And in that time we've conceded 16 (which is what Crawley have conceded in 19 league games).
-
So what (constructively) do people suggest we do to try to improve things?
Hope that this cold snap persists and all of our forthcoming fixtures are postponed until at least mid-January 2011, thereby allowing us to reshuffle the squad in the January transfer window and hope for better things.
And I'm being serious!
-
If I wasn't before, I am now convinced that we will be first to be relegated from BSP. And why would Youngy want to come back to this shambles? Hardly a good career move really.
-
In Friday's Manchester Evening News, Alty manager Ken McKenna says "With 26 games still to go, I know we can get out of this mess but it's not me who needs to be convinced of that. It's the players.
If they want to continue playing at this level, they have to realise that it's at times such as this that they have to roll their sleeves up and show what they're made of".
Well when are they going to roll up there sleeves
-
I'll read the reports from those who were there with interest, but no denying things look very bleak at present.
I don't have an answer as to why this group of players cannot seem to put a meaningful attack together...
Tuesday is a must win of course, if not, I just can't see a way out.
Well done to those who travelled.

Managerial tactics, perhaps. ::) ::) ::)
-
I'm afraid to add to the pain but Cambridge weren't exactly up to much. a couple of half decent forwards but that's all it takes I'm afraid.
Not a gutless performance, the only word I can think of is "flat"
-
So many people seem to be full of wisdom regarding the management of the side and tactics. I wonder how many of the tactical geniuses on here bothered to go to the fans forum last week and put their views forward constructively? (I know I would have done if I could).
We all know things aren't exactly great at the moment and that massive improvements are required if we are to get out of this awful position we're in. However, what really makes me angry is the way some people on this forum appear to actually be revelling in it. If we are brutally honest, the squad we have at present simply isn't good enough and unless we receive a huge windfall between now and January not a lot is going to change.
Some of our so-called fans are enjoying our current malaise a bit too much in my opinion.
-

-
I was at the game today. I thought that offensively we were alright - Twiss held the ball up reasonably well, Clee in my opinion was terrific when running at players. I'd agree with most criticism levelled at the defence on here, I thought today they looked intimidated by the muscular centre forward Gray from Cambridge, he was winning everything in the air, and even more gallingly on the ground when played to his feet. It was as though they weren't up for the physical confrontation - maybe I'm wrong, that's just how it looked. I think tactics wise, the 5-2-3/5-4-1 leaves the midfield a bit susceptible to being overrun, particular immediately after we attack. When the opposition play the ball wide, the central midfielders are often left with a choice - get dragged wide to close down the attacking full back whilst Clee/Baynes get back in, or remain in the middle. Either way this clearly opens up space, central or wide. I think this is a danger of opearating as a counterattacking team - the occasions we do get forward, we are significantly weakened defensively and look exposed. Having said all this, today was not without positives (some decent attacking play), and Cambridge have several very good players - notably Gray, Wright, Carden played well, and both wingers were excellent.
-
How can we play on the counter with no pace? Twiss isn't good enough to play upfront on his own, a centre back can hold the ball up and lay it off its basics we are giving praise for which is a bad sign, if and when reeves is fit I would start him, rant over 8)

I have always had Alty down as a gritty, hard-working team that i admired for their determination against teams with much bigger resources, but today.... they were just nothing. No passion, no effort and gave up as soon as the first goal went in.
They were summed up by a fella that blasted the ball so high and far over the NRE that it hit the traffic on Newmarket Road... a first.
Unless things change Alty are a going down without a whimper. We're an average mid-table side and we cut them apart without even trying.

It's a damning indictment of how sh*t this league is that we can be so utterly abject all season and yet still find ourselves a mere 7 points off of a play-off spot. The fact that Altrincham made us look like Brazil today makes one realise just how deprssingly poor the quality of football is in this poxy league.
Respect to those Alty fans that made the trip. It should make me feel a little better that somebody is actually measurably worse than Cambridge United. It deosn't in the slightest, but I have massive sympathy for you lads and lasses all the same.

It's idiots like you that I can't stand. You only ever come on here when we're at a low ebb and you quite clearly enjoy being a prophet of doom (your earlier prediction that we will be the first club to be relegated is a prime example of this). You're conspicuous by your absence when there is praise to be handed out though.

Sorry VofD but this is the best post of the day
-
I was at the game too.
Until the first goal went in we played reasonably ok. Clee seemed to be playing wide left, but allowed to roam inside, probably one of the only plus points was the creativeness of Clee.
Defensively, we were bloody awful. The inability to tackle or even pressure the opposition is disconcerting. We were always a yard of the pace. We couldn’t pass the bloody ball around. When Williams got the ball, more often than not it would be blasted hopelessly to a Cambridge fella.
Twiss held the ball up. But didn’t do an awful lot. He had little pace, and fell on the floor at regular interval.
I didn’t see much of Densmore during the game. Think he was playing central midfield, but looked, like most of the players, out of sorts. His penalty was poor, at the right height for the Cambridge keeper to make a save.
We improved offensively with the introduction of Beesley and Denham. Beesley’s movement was good to see, and he seemed to work well with Denham.
Overall, our central midfield was non-existent, and our defending very questionable. We had a couple chances, but Cambridge could have had more, if they had got out of third gear.
The guys need to get their act together, otherwise we're off to the BSBN...

Ok then. We've conceded 11 in the last 2 games, and scored 0, but I'm sure that we'll be fine and will stay up. Does that make you feel better?

You're missing my point altogether. The only time you ever have anything to say is when we're in a really grim situation. I don't think I've ever seen you post on here after a win or when things are generally going ok. It's easy to shout criticism at times like this, but why not balance it out by acknowledging good things as well?

Well what a cracking days football that was, we are still routed to the foot of the table :'( and can't score a penalty >:( and earlier this week I paid a points penalty to drop Berbatov from my fantasy team to replace him with Elmander ::). I'm going to bed now before the cricket starts

Check out my comments on page 5 or 6 of the Fleetwood thread then if that's what you think. I've put the link below to make it convenient for you. Then tell me I only post after we've lost. I will always say it how I see it, and it's obvious that doesn't go down well with some diehards. If we've been cr*p, I reserve the right to say so, and if we've done well, I'll say so. Unfortunately this season, the former applies. I will not post platitudes after hammerings and, although I wasn't there today, I know that Cambridge aren't up to much. Come on, they came back from 3 down against Tamworth last week to scrape a draw.

Ha, well said Jimmy. Over the last two Saturdays I have spent in excess of 100 quid watching a total shambles.
Last Saturday we were always on a hiding to nothing against a freak of a club who have a squad that would be good enough for the top six in League Two. Today we were playing a distinctly average team who we generally get a result at and it was woeful. The half hearted cheer the Cambridge fans gave when their first goal went in told its own story. The players (not to mention the 51 of us in the away end) looked utterly deflated well before the end and compltely bereft of confidence. The defending, the space, the lack of closing people down, tracking runners, it would embarrass a Sunday league team. Yeah, the next three games are against struggling teams I know but I for one have no confidence in the ability of the current squad to turn it round. We are simply no-where hear the required standard and im my 20 odd years of watching Alty this is amongst the lowest I have seen.
-
After speaking to VofD about the drawbacks of going into the BS North such as finding results and away match reports, playing teams like Blyth Spartans (sounds like a geeky American football team) and Eastwood town (where, who, what?) and the drop in gate receipts then I really do hope Alty stay up. I really do. I don't get to as many games as I would like due to new baby, but when I do make it, I love it and I always enter the ground full of optimism, but, even though I know the next few weeks are crucial and Alty are still masters of their own destiny, I'm starting to consider the possibility of 'positives' from going down. I don't for one minute think Alty should just give up, nor are they punching above their weight, but going down (IF it happens) should be a time to re-think and re-build.
Alty is struggling as a part time team in a full time league. I'm amazed at how many teams have come into money and think they can sustain full time status, and that fact pisses me off: Gateshead bank rolling full time status on poor gate receipts (their time will come). Altrincham going down will take off some of the pressure, and given enough time to re-think and re-build and with the hope the fans numbers don't drop too much, there is a chance they could bounce straight back up into the BS premier ready to kick anyone's arse.
But even as I write this I'm getting pissed off with the news that even teams below the BS North are spending big money on players.
I hope I don't come across as being negative and full of doom. I don't feel that way. I'm just preparing for all possibilities........and by staying positive (even about going down) will hopefully take the wind out of any opinion posted by that knob sock from Northwich.
-
Culture note : Eastwood is a former mining town in Nottinghamshire, and is best known as the birthplace of the 20th.Century novelist D.H.Lawrence (Lady Chatterley's Lover, Sons and Lovers, etc.)
And which particular Northwich knobsock are you speaking of ? Personally, I can't tell 'em apart !
Good post though, and I too dread the visits to places like Workington on a freezing cold night, but we're going to have to improve massively if it's to be avoided.

You can blame gh you can blame km you can even blame the players, but the sad truth is to sustain are status in the bsp over the period we have with the limited funds weve had has been a miracle,
On my wallpaper is a picture of last seasons team which I will never change they were a privilege to support, now let's get this over with and give droylesden a good hiding so I can give liam brownhill some sh*t 8)

I'd really LOVE to see Chris Denham turn Liam Brownhill inside out !

Well that was feeble. Anyone who thinks that we are one or two players away from being a decent Conference side is deluding themselves as on that evidence we are miles away. A few observations about yesterday:
- James Smith, the best defender at the club by a distance, cut a deeply frustrated figure and did his best to get himself sent off. We need him to get his head right.
- Andrew Milne, who started his loan spell well, seems to have let his head drop - always a danger with loan players.
- Ryan Brown is not good enough at this level but then we've known that for a while.
- We need to play three in central midfield. Densmore and Somner were hopelessly overrun in there. As others have mentioned, why Danylyk is languishing on the bench at present is a total mystery to me.
- Sean Densmore should be relieved of penalty duties for now, as his confidence is shot and he seems very easy for keepers to read. The pen at Crawley wasn't a terrible one but yesterday's was.
- Nicky Clee is our best attacking threat and should be in the team every time.
- I hope that KM is the right man for the job and I still support him. But the tactics at the moment are indistinguishable from those of GH that weren't working and caused such frustration among many of us fans.
I can't see us staying up at the moment but if we're to have any chance, we need to get the best out of the limited playing resources we have. I'd be tempted to try a 4-3-3 with:
Coburn
Densmore, Smith, Williams, Joseph
Danylyk, Somner, Baynes (or Hewson if he can get himself fit)
Denham, Twiss, Clee
Yesterday was a terrible one for the club. Players, management and fans all seemed to lack the heart to keep fighting the fight we've been engaged in ever since we got promoted to this league. As Rocky said, it was all very flat and if that doesn't change soon, what little hope remains will be extinguished.
-
Well what a cracking days football that was, we are still routed to the foot of the table :'( and can't score a penalty >:( and earlier this week I paid a points penalty to drop Berbatov from my fantasy team to replace him with Elmander ::). I'm going to bed now before the cricket starts
Well, on the plus side, at least that went well!

An excellent post from the reliably informative Leon.

That last sentence is one of the most alarming things I've read on this Forum all weekend.

Clee and Baynes were good once again, Twiss is getting fitter and is improving, Somner is a different class - vital that hes here , Densmore worked very hard once again and put in a decent performance, Joseph had his best game for the club, Smithy was decent although was dragged out of position alot to cover milne, Williams never looked sure when faced with Wright and for that reason he seemed to get punished everytime and brown was unlucky to come up against Willmott on a very good day. To some it up i thought we played well in spells and just got punished for mistakes, we had a few decent chances and if one had gone in for example the Baynes FK or the Clee chip then i think we would of got something.

Sorry, but if we're getting hammered 7 nil, 4 nil we are not 'unlucky'. 0-1, 1-2 is unlucky. 0-4/0-7 is sh*t. We are sh*t. I can't believe some people are saying that we are playing well is spells. No we are not. We are toothless up front, completely absent in midfield and our defence is an absolute shambles. We're not 1 or 2 players off a mid table side. We're several players short of winning a game.

Wise up, that's overly negative bollocks. We'd only lost 1 in 8 before a run of games that went Luton (H), Wimbledon (H), Crawley (A) and Cambridge (A).
This was always going to be a stinking run. I'd have been genuinely delighted if we'd pulled off just one result out of those lot.
I agree we're lower midtable at the very best, that last season with Youngy and Senior we were much better, but we're not so utterly terrible that we can't win any games.
Keep the faith and we will pick up points against the other dross in this division.

Good post. I agree completely.
Our away form and results and have been poor to say the least but we have got points at home. So far, of the teams in the bottom half, we've only played Barrow at home and beat them.
We clearly need to improve but there's plenty still to play for.

Have to disagree about Somner, I thought he was poor on Saturday. For me Danylyk has to start alongside Densmore
-
Can Nicky Clee not play at left back? I'm sure he's played there for us in the past during an injury crisis and did ok. I appreciate we need his attacking qualities, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Maybe try something like this for our next game:
Coburn
Densmore Smith Williams Clee
Denham Danylyk Somner Baynes
Beesley Reeves

Full backs overlapping to midfield, wide midfielders moving along the wings, certainly has some merit.

I dont think our midfield was too good on Saturday. Personally, i would go for 3 central midfielders, 2 wingers and one up front. I think we need to concentrate on stopping the other team scoring so many goals.
I would sternly tell williams not to hoof the ball each time he gets it and to pass to the midfield/winger.
i would put a rocket up Brown's arse, that way he may keep up with some opposing wingers for a change
I think Twiss should be left at one of our away games and forced to walk back (without stopping for a pie and pint).

Tamworth on Sunday would be a reasonable distance to start with. Even if the game is actually called off. We could then extend the distances at random as the season progresses (if "progress" is a word that can be used in the context of our season).
-
Coburn
Smith Williams Welch
Densmore Clee
Lawton Somner Danylyck
Denham Beesley
Subs Coates,Milne,Baynes,Brown,Reeves
I think we need a solid midfield and until Hewson and Twiss can be arsed getting fit i wouldn't include them.

I know it's a bit Catch 22, but considering we only train once/twice per week, surely we need to play these guys to get the weight down and the fitness up?
I sort of think it's worth saying to both of them that they should go hell for leather 100mph for 55-65 mins, then we'll take them off. Strolling about doing neat flicks for the full 90 isn't much good.

Maybe we get a very good make up artist and put them in the youth team!

This has suddenly reminded me of the undoubted highlight of last Saturday, the one bright spot in the whole day, which I can't believe I've forgotten to mention till now - Nasha trying to pretend to the bloke on the turnstile that he's 15. Superb. Turned out the turnstile guy was a police spotter as well.
