What planet is he on? Granted we've not set the world on fire and they will probably win tomorrow if we have loads of injuries but he isn't commenting on Eastwood Town here.
It's a good job we don't need anything from tomorrow or he would have just done the team talk for us!
What a gobsh*te....love to see him go on his arse after this now...I'll be looking out for his number tomorrow, he could provide minutes of entertainment!
"AVERAGE, AT BEST, ALTRINCHAM SHOULD PROVE NO CHALLENGE"
According to This is Lincs, "A bullish Leon Mettam believes Gainsborough Trinity have no one to fear as they look to book their place in the Blue Square Bet North play-offs... This weekend they travel to Altrincham and Mettam is confident the Blues can do the business, in fact he believes they should have been champions.
'Everyone has got a role to play. We've got a big squad and such a variety of players to pick from that we should be up there. We should, in fact, have won the league', said Mettam, who has scored 11 goals this season. 'The amount of games where we have let our lead slip, or conceded soft goals, has let us down. But the quality of our squad is top notch and I don't believe there is anyone out there who has as good a squad as we have in this league. The play-offs will be a lottery, but I fancy us to beat anyone in the play-offs on our day. Halifax are a good team and so are Guiseley. But I'd fancy us to go to those sides and, over two legs, beat them'.
Mettam is confident Altrincham should prove no challenge to them. The Blues managed a 2-0 win over the Robins at the Northolme earlier in the season. A draw and the solitary point would be enough to secure the Blues a place in the play-offs, but Mettam believes a positive mindset is needed.
'Altrincham won 6-1 against Eastwood on Saturday. They will go in to the match this Saturday flying', said the former Lincoln City youth team player. 'If we go there thinking we just need a point we'll get beaten, it is not a positive way to look at it. We've got to go there and try and win. We made Altrincham look average at best when they came here. We beat them 2-0 earlier in the season. There is no reason why we can't go there and make them look very average again. They will be fearing us, we won't be fearing them. We made them look silly when they played us last year. We'll go there and do that to them again'.
-
Wow ! ELEVEN goals ! What an achievement that is to be sure.
Win the League ? With THAT away record ? He must be one of Jim Rushe's drinking partners, or else he's out temporarily as part of "Care in the Community" :D

Look at his nasty head!!

:D
Yes, we're in fear. We fear we might finish 8th if we lose. When if we win we could finish, errr, 8th.
Classless comments from a tin-pot club. Next.
-
When did we play them last year? Hopefully ex-gk can print it off and have passed around the dressing room.I can take being patted on the head by Luton and York, but who's is this man? I've never heard of him, one week they are saying they aren't big time Charlie's and the next coming out with nonsense like this, most this 28 man super squad wouldn't be anywhere near Gainsborough if it wasnt for the £16,500 a week wage budget, and he's right, at that cost they should have walked this sh*t league

Looks to me like he will be able to play a mean tune on the banjo
-
Is it Krusty?
-
Look at his evil eyes, it must be like spending your whole life peeping through a venetian blind...
-
I always wondered what DI Burnside out of the bill looked like when he was young, does this nobody realise he's in for the "nicky wood treatment" tomorrow now?

His name anagrams as TO ME, MENTAL
Very apt.

"said the former Lincoln City youth team player"
**quake**
-
What an absolute helmet that guy is! Hope we shoot him down today.
If one of our players ever came out with a load of drivel like that it would be followed by a nailed on 5-0 defeat!!
-
Sounds like Gainsborough are letting their village idiot have a day out of town today.
Nob.
-
Even robbie Williams got a first team gig for Lincoln city..
-

The consensus is that he's perhaps the worst of all Holdsworth's sh*t signings.
-
I'm actually quite glad he's come out with this.
Yesterday I was thinking that this game wouldn't really excite me, we finish 8th no matter what.
Now, I can hardly wait. It would make the weekend if we could hammer this idiot!!
-
It doesnt seem to have put him off his game today....
-
He got a hattrick ffs!
How humiliating!!
-
im afraid mettam is right ,we are very average, good going forward ,crap at the back ,disappointing season
-
5ft 8inches and he scored a header from a set piece.
That does say it all about our defence I am afraid.
Pity because overall I thought we played well today and deserved at least a draw.
-
He was unfortunatly a very good player

A lot of short players have been very good headers of the ball; able to get into good positions and getting very good leverage on their jumps. Lou Macari at Man U was a great example.

Cahill at Everton anyone? - Mettam is still a nob though ;)
-
A total knob, but to ggod for our defence :-\

offside.
-
offside.
If he'd been any further offside he'd have been first in the queue for a cab at Altrincham Interchange (queues - I remember those >:()

A devout Referee hater (even more so than anyone on here) indicated to me that the buffoon from Gainsborough was marginally ONside when the ball was played.
I wasn't in line so cannot comment
What I am tempted to comment on however is some of the obscene comments aimed at Ms Walker during the second half, even before the third goal.
However I'm not going to because I am disinclined to give some of those neanderthals making the comments the oxygen of a mention

Was Andy Gray in the crowd?
-
Far worse than anything he ever said which was reported
-
He told us that we would be no problem today.
We ran them pretty close, including hitting the bar, so maybe we weren't just a "silly" team after all.
Fair play to the lad though, looks like he has the skills to back it up.
I stand by the fact that if an Alty player had done it, we would never have got the points that we needed.
I'm just very very very glad that we didn't need a point today to get into the playoffs and were denied by that decision.
A mile offside.
-
I think we can let her off as she was cute
-
Her house must be filthy!!
-
It was offside and it was missed by a linesman (!) who struggled to keep up with play for the last 20 minutes of the second half. Mistakes happen, but it was still not good enough at this level of football.
-
It's a football match, not a tea dance, you make huge mistakes and your going to get pelters from a paying public. If she'd kept up with play she would have been ok, but it's a case of being able to read the game. And everyone is entitled to an opinion, and mine is that ladies should officiate ladies football, and men officiate men's football. I'm not interested in the politics of it, this I a sport not a council office, football isnt run like any other business. Its just a good job we didn't need a point to get a playoff place.Anf for what it's worth a thought the ref was dreadful yesterday as well, is he also beyond reproach or can it be pointed out they he too was useless?
-
I was directly in line and I'd like to see the alty tv footage first, I thought at the time it was close as the ball was being played one of our defenders was stepping up so it depends on the timing, either a fantastically timed run or a mile offside. I guess we'll find out soon. The sexist comments were over the top.

Can't really see why not being able to keep up with play is anything to do with her gender.
There have been plenty of similar posts about the failings of male liners.
-
Its because girls are rubbish at running
-
they let you down and don't turn up for work when the kids have measels or they get pregnant again and demand time off to have a baby.....surely that's not good for the game
-

I'm pretty sure the young lady has been here before, and on that occasion she had a good game. I also thought she did well yesterday until THAT incident. I was practically plumb in line, and she wasn't. I'll be amazed if the footage doesn't prove she was wrong. But anyone can make a mistake, and the abuse that followed can't have helped her subsequent performance which, for me, fell below the standard of her earlier efforts.
OK, cost us a point, but luckily an irrelevant one. Bring on next season.
-
Less of the sexist comments please gentleman. He unfortunately proved we are average and that is not the problem of liner (of any race, sex or creed). The player himself should just do what he does best just play football.
Roll on next season!

do you not feel a bit silly now?
it was onside!

For once John I agree with you
I wonder if there will be any acknowledgement of the apparently correct decision from those who were so strident yesterday?

From the camera angle it looks closer than it did yesterday. I was in line with it. I STILL don't accept that it was onside, and I was better placed to judge than was the referee's assistant.

The camera angle is behind the play, just like the official running the line was. Why would I feel silly, my above opinion hasn't changed,

If you're so good at making these calls, become a referee yourself.

Isn't the point that the abuse aimed at her (and now nobody is even sure if she was wrong) was discriminatory in nature?
If a Black linesman made a bad error I'd be perfectly happy to shout at him to tell him how sh*t he is at being a linesman. I wouldn't tell him to f**k off back to Africa or anything similarly embarrasing. Surely it should be the same for a female assistant? The fact she has a pair of tits doesn't automatically give anyone the right to hurl sexist abuse at her.
-
Yes because somebody saying to someone " I bet your house is filthy" and numerous other seaside postcard style remarks that raised numerous laughs and smiles off the assistant ref in question are definately as bad as racially abusing somebody with vile and Hurtful insults.Do me a favour. This is a typical case of somebody being offended on someone elses behalf. And how it's been afforded two threads on here is beyond me.Maybe we should all sit down next season? Seeing atmosphere has already been stamped out, maybe terrace banter should be the next to go.

I never said it was as bad. Stealing isn't as bad as child abuse. But stealing is still wrong.
From what I've heard the comments aimed toward her were considerably more offensive than the ones you've repeated here.
As for terrace banter, I specifically remember saying the football should be a place to let off steam after there were complaints about language after the Cambridge game last season, only for you to come on and tell us all to moderate our behaviour.
-
Did I? I agree people should be reserved in family areas, but this is something out of nothing.God forbid we had a following like sheff united, I wonder if its worth bothering anymore, might as well got to the Ice hockey, at least your being happy clappy with your big foam indoors at the hockey, and get use of the whole stadium

I heard one comment but couldn't identify who had made it and I will guarantee that if someone had said that to your wife, girlfriend, daughter or even work colleague you would have ripped their throat out. It would have made Chubby Brown blush.
-
Fair do's, but for balance, I've heard many many offensive comments made to male linesmen over the years from all sides of the ground, and made a few myself. And theres never been two threads on the subject on this forum.Treating the case of Saturdays assistant any differently, could be tantamount to positive discrimination in some people's view.

As I said, if you can do a better job than the man/women/black/white/asain/straight/gay official, give it a go.

The comment I heard on saturday could never ever apply to a male official
-
Nope, it doesn't interest me, but I do expect to see people fit for purpose in senior football, the ref was abysmal on Saturday, and his assistant on the popular side was never up with play. Yours Is a nonsense argument. And your merging to subjects. Just because a ref failed to see Stuart Coburn palm a ball around the post when he was stood ten yards away doesn't mean I'm going to start a ref's course. It's like you saying David Cameron is an idiot and me saying, you should be running for PM...

The above post is in respect to buttys post, I hadn't realised someone had Replied in between

As a matter of interest Pete I think David Cameron is an idiot and Butty couldn't do any worse

There isn't a political party in this country worth voting for, one bankrupted the country again like they did last time they were in,performing so badly that it left them unelectable for 2 decades, and the other 2 haven't a clue how to turn it around. But that's for a different forum.

On that point, if any of you live in Irvine East vote for Jennifer's Mum, aka Ruby Kirkwood and if any of you live in Ardrossan and Arran please vote for Hamilton, aka Jennifer's Dad, aka Nick Smith.
When we run the country it will be law for Alty to win!

The LibDems believe in local decision making, so I am sure he will be fine if Ray Bowker et al in Trafford get a few more seats and make this decision.

Running for PM is a bit too far, but a few Saturday afternoons reffing may teach you a lesson or two- i.e it's not as easy as it looks.

I always say that before critisicing someone you should trying running a mile in their shoes.
That way if they didn't like it, you'd be a mile away and you'd have their shoes.

I've never said its easy, but I've also never pretended I can do it, or been fast tracked through the levels via a quota system. You pay to watch football at this level, and The officials should reflect that.

Then shouldn't the referees get paid as much as the players they are refing?

Sounds fair enough to me

If you are suggesting that Ms Walker has been fast tracked via a quota system then you are wrong. There are many many things I am not in a position to speak about with any authority but I do know about the promotion process for Referees

Of course it's true. It's in The Daily Mail. And when they've finished their stint as a referee they automatically get parachuted into a job as Diversity Co-ordinator for a city council.

According to the Chester supporters on Devachat. Natalie Walker has produced the best refereeing performance in any Chester game this season. She is well respected as a referee in Chester.
