I fancy it today.

Just waiting for the little terror to wake up from her afternoon nap and spoil my peace and soccer saturday. Wonder if in her little mind she'll be f*cked off that I make her spend saturday afternoon indoors. This is how to breed an alty fan I guess.

Is Denham named only. I thought he had no chance of playing?

Looks like Lawton on the right wing. I simply cannot understand this when we've got Sheridan on the bench.

Agreed, but maybe there is something about Lawton's presence that adds an edge to the other players.

6 corners?

I do hope weve been working on these set plays, although the stats suggest we're up to our usual.

These commentators are the best ive heard on these bbc local radio broadcasts.

from what i saw of Mansfield,i am not worried about next week

The way I see it, we've got nothing to lose next week. We're expected to get knocked out so if we do get a replay or even a win it will be most gratefully received. For the record, I feel we're capable of getting a replay at the very least.

Afternoon all.

Looking forward to this one, I must admit I prefer us as the underdogs with no pressure rather than feeling we need to get points of the likes of Gateshead at home.  Nothing to lose today, I'd take a point and a clean bill of health ready for next week.

I agree with the commentators, sounds like could end up 0-0, won't be too unhappy with that.

Going the other way, started at Thames Barrier, and hoping to get to the source but logistics get tricky beyond Oxford as the transport is less regular.

We have a poor penalty record over the last season year. They have to get the basics right (pens and corners)

Incredible we miss a pen then a minute later they score one.
There was long delay with Colin taking his Pen, with Luton players continuing arguing with the ref - who didnt even book any Luton player. A dsadvantage to Colin.

We have a poor penalty record over the last season year. They have to get the basics right (pens and corners)

Doesn't help that our regular penalty taker is sat in the stands suspended.

But players at this level should be able to put a penalty away, especially someone with Col's experience.

To be fair, he didnt miss it, it was saved. If it was a poor penalty then whatever, at least he didnt balloon it over/wide etc

To be honest I think we're seriously over-analysing the missed pen situation. Penalties get scored and missed by the best players in the world. It's a lottery and this time it's not gone our way.

It's not worth losing any sleep over.

Good call. Defenders seem to often be better pen takers. Col is an instinctive scorer - I fear having to think too much about a shot is not a good thing for most forwards.

I always think the best penalty nowadays is the full powered shot, even through the centre. Most keepers will not have the time to react to those.

0-1 ft. Could have been so different but  still we just need to get back on track soon.  Sounded like we played well and just ran out of steam 2nd half...

Thats all folks

Dissapointing not to get the point.

Luton may be the better team with a better manager by the sounds of things from the commentators, who were very good.

Now off to take Jennifer for a walk .............

if I can find the lead!

See you later folks

they reckon their goalie should be man of the match with his fantastic save from col,so maybe on another day col would have scored :)

Ho hum - 3 points from Rushden, Mansfield and Luton is OK.  I'm more bothered by Cup and Trophy this year.  Looks like the league could be a mid table obscurity season which is great if not as exciting as recent seasons!

Disappointing, but we wouldn't have expected much from this before the start of the season. Shows how far we've come. Expectation can be a dangerous thing.

chateuaneuf du pape to drown my sorrows.

Unlucky there by the sounds of it. It does frustrate me that we run out of wind, but theres nothing we can do about it in this league.

It is disappointing and frustrating but a few seasons ago we were regularly getting tonked 5-0 at home by the top teams, so its perspective really. We just need to get some more points on the board so we keep the tempo up and do not become despondent and stagnate.

Other than a one minute period where we missed a penalty and they scored one it seemed that the game was pretty even, perhaps with Luton just having the edge*.

One good thing is that, quite clearly, we didn't lose because the opposition had a bigger budget than us - we lost because of one minute when we cocked up and they didn't.

However, perhaps this means that we shouldn't be so forgiving when we play well but lose to 'superior' opposition? If Little hadn't missed we could have won today (possibly).

* I wasn't there so let me know if I'm talking nonsense.

Excellent choice! Better than Harold's Corned beef sarnies I daresay!

From the commentary we just edged the first half but Luton had the 2nd - stronger & fitter. Sounds like a commendable performance from Alty against a well organised team.

Uo until they scored we looked like the only team that was going to win the game. Once they scored they could have a bag full but that was because we had to push up. John Laidlar sums it up on the main website

Its actually more frustrating watching us match these "bigger clubs" then getting dicked 4 nil!

However it shows what a massive step change we have made- disapointed again today but 10 out of 10 for effort :)

I wouldn't have said Luton looked particularly well organised. They were there for the taking today.

See my comment on the Colin Little penalty thread - not so much a miss as a decent save ! Stu had a blinder, but went the wrong way for their pen. I thought we were much the betterside for an hour, but there seemed little chance of a goal apart from the penalty.

Once   again

Sorry - to continue......

Once again we slipped away in the last half hour as superior fitness took a hand. When Danylyk, who'd put in one Hell of a shift, came off he was like a dead man walking.

Clee had run his heart out too, but had no more to offer and was on a yellow - I thought the pen was a tad harsh from where I was standing.

Burns too ran out of steam, but had shown some nice stuff earlier.

Taking nothing away from Stu (what would we do without him ?), Smith was absolutely massive today and was clearly MY man of the match.

He's having arguably his best season ever for us at the moment. I still can't believe he was second choice at Leigh a few years ago!
