Starting XI for Leek
« on: October 04, 2012, 10:15:23 AM »

                             Coburn

Densmore      Havern      Hall        Doughty

Watmore       Rodgers     Moult     Clee

                     Lawrie       Reeves

Nothing against Richman, he's full of running and effort. However, we need to put them straight on the back foot and I feel our best chance of doing this is to have Watmore and Clee tearing them a new one on the wings.

It's Richman away and Watmore at home for me.  Offers us a bit more protection.

Watmore to come on at about 60 mins and cause mayhem.

If we are to be successful we have to play our best players as much as possible.

I suspect the management may elect to keep Watmore on the bench in the first instance - there may still be a slight query as to fitness as well as a tactical consideration. I have a feeling he'll be needed at some point, though.

game will be hard work.

Richman for me.

Watmore to come on after 60-70 mins and terrorise them.

Why not try playing our strongest team?

Going for the replay is dodge in the cup

Also don't understand the argument Watmore not an away player, what happened at Harrogate and Gainsborough or vauxhall when he didn't start?

home player?  away player?  what's all that about?

If Watmore is fit he's in.

Are people really that short-sighted that they can't see starting Watmore every game isn't possible? He's an 18 year-old lad with plenty of physical development yet to do. And his instincts are to dribble, cross and shoot. Not to snuff out opposition attacks and track back.

Starting with Richman with the intention of using Watmore's pace later in the game seems perfectly sensible to me.

Disagree

As was shown at Shildon, cup games are about how you start not how you finish

think long term Jimmy as Banbury says Watmore instincts are to cross dribble and shoot

To much of that and we could end up with a play off position. Best play Richman to tone it down a bit!

Is it really so odd to be a ilittle more cautious from the off away from home and far more gung ho at home?

We don't have the squad to have differing formations away and at home so can only make small tweeks, but you have heard of this concept I take it?

Do you think Nicky Clee is as effective away from home as he is at home?

I'm not talking about playing for a draw, we aren't good enough to ever consider doing that in a match.

To me it makes sense to do that.  Just my opinion, I've not suggested playing Reeves at centre half.

The best eleven players doesn't always equal the best starting XI as a team. In the same way United always played Ji-sung Park in "the big european away ties". Work rate is everything - and, as much as we want to see free flowing, attacking football, sometimes "conceding less than you" is a better attitude to take than "scoring more than you"
