With immediate effect apparently, the return of a mostly semi pro conference league has started! ;D
-
at least they have done that as a stage of sorting things out, and fair play to them.
wonder if they are "Part Time" and proud of it ?
-
I doubt if they'll be proud of it for a couple of seasons at least!

It would seem some Muff fans are in a panic because their chairman has said he sees the team being drawn from local players i.e. within a 50 mile radius (presumably excluding the Channel).
How many Alty players can you name that HAVEN'T come from within such a distance? For starters:-
Jerome John
Keith Russell (?)
Andy Lovelock
John Hughes
Tony Broadhead
Steve Hardwick (scouse student at Bangor Univ)
Danny McGoona (if only it were further)
George Yardley (played about 5 games in '73, I'm struggling now)
Any ideas?
-
I could name quite a few (Kilkline and his ilk for example?).
Now, would I be right in saying that the more local the layer, the less chance he is a money grabber who doesn't put his heart into playing for the club.*
* I know that is somewhat of a generalisation and my apologies to those non locals who were genuine, whole hearted players.

Luckily Liverpoool is less than 50 miles from Moss Lane or we would have been able to list thousands of Alty players of scouse origin...
-
Being pedantic, abour 11 million people live within a 50 mile radius of Manchester (over twice the population of Scotland).I'd be surprised if 1 million people lived wihin a 50 mile radius of Weymouth.
Jerome John wasn't a bad keeper considering his hight. I seem to remember he got the train from London for Alty matches but once scrounged a lift back to London on the Away team coach.

Leroy May, from the midlands somewhere. I believe he moved on because he couldn't drive and the travelling was an issue?
