OK. Thanks for that. It explains why the council expected our club to address all the H&S issues.

I am party to a similar lease. 25 years in our case. The rent is adjusted every five years. An opportunity for the landlord to turn the screw.

I'm surprised that the feeling at Halifax is that the council should find a third party who is willing to buy the ground and lease it back to the sports clubs. At the moment the council are running the ground at a loss.
Any third party will most likely be wanting to make a handsome profit.

We don't want third party ownership, but we also don't feel the clubs are capable of running the stadium. We are currently being run with no ambition, there is no effort to grow the club. Dont take this the wrong way but traditionally we have been a bigger club than Alty. However on our forum we use Alty, as what we should be doing. You're showing ambition and are signing players, engaging fans and opening club shops. Things we don't seem able to do. I would say you've already passed us now.

There is no way our two clubs  could run the shay outright, it would need a major culture shift especially at the football club for it to work. However we do need the freedom of not having the council make out decisions for us. We make nothing off any sales at ground and are. The councils mercy with any groind/pitch improvements.

Like I said a not for profit trust(like we did in past) with representatives from both clubs would be the best option to most fans. Would allow us to have more say and freedom of using the Shay and actually benefiting from it and also the community. The Shay is criminally underused by the council, as they don't care or have the means to do more.

Worrying times for us. Best case scenario would be council to give lease to an independent not for profit trust, with representation from both clubs on the trust committee. Majority of fans do not want the clubs to be in control of the stadium outright. Our council has prioritised the piece hall and are willing to underwrite that to ridiculous amounts of money. While they don't do anything to promote The shay at all, or get more use out of it. If they are actually tried harder, they could probably easily recoup the 161,000 they say they are losing per year on the shay, compared to the millions annually they invest in the piece hall.

Don't. suppose there's any mention of a pitch inspection at The Shay tomorrow? Just wait until the last minute and call it off. Prove me wrong Halifax.

There might be one in morning, as it's still raining. But you're only an hr away, so I imagine they will try give it as long as possible to make a decision.

Weather forecast for Monday much improved. Still a fair amount of rain over the weekend. Fingers crossed.

Saw a photo of pitch yesterday and all looked good, but forecast seems to be changing every hr for the next few days, currently heavy rain planned all day now, and some rain all the way through to Monday on met office. So have absolutely no idea how this one will pan out, it's basically been raining for the last month bar a day or two.

Their pitch looked like it had plenty of standing water on it, in the far corner from our seats. Won't take much more rain and it'll be Dino Zoff.

When did it have standing water on it?

The trophy game. From where we were there was a lot of shiny glinty reflections as if coming off water.

We prob had even worse weather leading into Rochdale game last week, and it held up remarkably welll. Suprisingly for us, the pitch has been ok so far this season.

Well bully for you. Hope you're not too bitter when we beat you (again) at yours in a few days.
PS. This isn't a bite which you're clearly trying to provoke but more of a heads up. 😉

If you think I was trying to get a bite, that's on you. I've liked Parkinson as a manager, and I like the ambition your club has shown over the last couple of seasons. Just thought that interview was interesting to say the least.

I found it really odd there’s a 2 page thread on his interview on your forum. It’s the Alty boss speaking to the Alty fans. The intended audience don’t give a monkeys about how well or otherwise the opposition played yesterday & are far more concerned with our own failings.

Why is it odd, it's part and parcel that you watch interviews, etc after a game that involves your team. Was just suprised by the tact of his interview, wasn't expecting it to be honest.

I have to take my hat off and confirm I felt the same way as fans in all of the above comments. However, there is a reason for everything and if you all listen to Phil's summing up of the game yesterday, they are not excuses for the defeat, but they do make me feel a little harsh in my criticism of the team and management yesterday.

Phil speaks of the long journey to Bromley, injuries picked up and also of playing a match with 10 men for the majority of the game, then a long journey home, arriving in the early hours. I'm not surprised there was very little left in the tank, the team did not have time to rebuild after that game, and Elliott was still carrying the blow to his ribs from Michael the Cheek.

I think we should just lay off them, put it behind us and go again on New Year's Day, and appreciate what a good speaker Phil is. I never saw things that way yesterday, but Phil is closer to the team than we are, knows his players well, and is vastly more experienced than we are. The points he made in his interview never crossed my mind during the game. He does support his team well, and I like the way we will still chanted for them and applauded them after the game. That alone could turn New Years Day into a win.

Don't be too disheartened by yesterday's result.

As a Halifax fan, I thought the interview came off as slightly bitter. I don't want gushing praise from an opposing manager, but I do feel that interview will be shown to the Halifax players and manager and used as ammunition in the new years day game.

Halifax Away

Revenge time chaps

You can have it lads, we've been there done it in the trophy lol.

Ah, but here's the rub. The message to fans of teams who are losing going into the final minutes is, you can buy yourself a few more minutes if you chuck a flare onto the pitch. If you're lucky it'll miss the keeper.

I'm not saying that the ref necessarily had a choice, but he will be reflecting on how that call basically condoned hooliganistic behaviour.

You are absolutely correct, and I expect we will be hit by some sort of fine, but the ref probably had to do what he did.

In a good, heartfelt interview with PP after the Town semi, it is suggested that the referee has "played longer than he should have done" (see link).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAA7saFpg3I

This brings me back to a point I think I've made before. When the 4th official holds up his board saying two minutes added time (something I am against personally as I feel it causes as many problems as it solves), what does it actually mean? Literally 120 seconds stoppage time plus any additional stoppages and discretionary added time? Anything from 60 seconds to 120 seconds? Anything from 120 seconds to 180 seconds? Some random approximation by the referee? And how much discretion does the referee have to add on additional time not for any stoppages if a team is attacking? I believe this started after a world cup match where the referee blew for time as the ball was put into the net from a corner as the referee's stopwatch said time up. After an outcry, referees made sure they didn't do this in repetitions of this situation. But surely you have to draw the line somewhere - how much time is too much? And would any referee (such as a certain David Rock) ever admit that they may have played the wrong amount of stoppage time? It would be nice to have some clarity on this.

Over to you Phil (or Anthony if you're reading!).

Not trying to be a devils advocate here, but the ref indicated a minimum of 3mins added time. The flare was thrown on the pitch within that injury time. Halifax scored at 94:08. Meaning he allowed an extra 1min and 8secs form said flare to be removed from pitch. Not condoning the flare or anything like that. And you deserved the win. But I would say it was just about the right call to play an extra minute with the said flare causing the extra time.

Where to start with that.

Parky's got to be making the subs earlier - he's stubborn as hell and the lads were dead on their feet at the end.

Alli was giving Jones a torrid time, and he's carrying a booking. Surely it would have been better to bring on Harry Perritt given he shut everything down so well on Tuesday night?

Hugill for Sinclair should have been done earlier too - with a fresh head he would have buried one of those chamces that Hugill missed. Instead he's bringing him on cold for the penalty shootout.

And then the flare... wow. Why should we be penalised for their own fan throwing a flare on the pitch? The game's a full 90 seconds over the allotted time by that point, surely it wasn't stopped for that long?

I'm heartbroken and I'm so angry.

We didn't deserve that, if I'm being honest. My only concern from your perspective was that you were allowing us to have the ball too much in 2nd half. If you had stayed in front foot you probably would have won that game. Commiserations to you. You didn't deserve that.

You do seem to have a very convoluted ticketing process. Have to say, other Halifax fans sound a bit more up for it, judging by Twitter remarks.

That's part of the apathy. A chairmen who isn't willing to get with the times or take any advice/help from the fans.

If you want to see the apathy I'm talking about, then visit our forum 🤦‍♂️.
