Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Southport Predictions
« on: August 27, 2010, 05:09:54 PM »
Actually thinking of past Southport v Alty games there is one which stands out as being more relevant.

I'm hoping it was the 1995-96 season but think it moght've been the horrible 96-97 which I hope isn't an omen.

We hadn't won in our first 3 games, in fact, we'd lost all 3 without scoring I think and were 0-1 down until injury time when a lad called Andy Allan grabbed an equaliser. As we deliriously celebrated our last gasp point Mick '3 goals a season' Carmody clattered somebody in midfield strode forward and unleashes a dipping, swerving half volley right into the top corner from all of 35 yards.

We then won our next 5 games.

I think that's correct but I'm also sure we won 3-0 there and someone like Andy Allan got a couple, maybe that was the following season.

Ballers, I think that Saughall Robin is right that Andy Allen's only goal for Alty was against Morecambe a couple of weeks after this game.I think that the scorer was either Stuart Terry or an own goal......it was a low ball in from the right & it was difficult to see who turned it in.

Ballers, you were almost spot on with your recollections,...in 1995/96 we did win 2-1 with a last minute Carmody goal, it WAS DANNY Mc GOONA's debut and I think he came off the bench and frightened their full back to death. He lived in N Wales and I had to drive him home with Lenny after the match, and having lost 3 and drawn two we won this and the next 4, I remeber someone on the board had a bet on a 20/1 or something like that to win the next 5 matches as well, cant remember who it was.

I understand that the FA will issue a temp international clearance after 30 days, which means he should be available for York on saturday. Can anyone confirm that?

Also, Densmore/Danylyk both told me (outside the chippy in Southport) they should be OK for saturday as well, but not Robbie L. Lets hope Denham & Reeves are OK.

« on: August 21, 2010, 07:06:40 PM »
the game today was a shocking advertisement for BSP.We were an absolute non entity going forward, and the only two people showing any passion were Heathcote and Smith.

we didnt have a shot on target. they were crude and cynical. Evans, Raynor , and Heathcote were awful..... that is not family entertainment. Unbelievalably poor value for money.... i'm surprised we dont get less through the gate.

Did you see the two previous matches? clearly not. Today we were bullied out of it by a very physical team with a ref who fell for their play acting, and still werent able to play Crowell either who would have improved us. Denham came within inches of scoring first half. We always knew we had a tough start. Being negative is your right, but most unhelpful,....will you be on here wednesday if we play well at southport signing their praises?  :-[

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Lack of height in the back line
« on: August 18, 2010, 09:06:05 PM »
Joseph is allegedly six feet tall - so it's not a lack of height, but aerial technique. He looked useul on the left of the back four in pre-season, so perhaps we should put him there, with Welch in the middle, and Brown in midfield.

You have a point there Phil, as I have noticed that Joseph doesnt really get up to head the ball but seems to keep his feet on the ground mostly.

The problem with Robbie I think is that he lacks the experience in dealing with some of the more wily centre forwards, (clever at backing in, holding blind side etc) whereas Greg for example knew how to play them, when to intercept, when to sit off, whereas Rob gets sucked in too often and makes half hearted challenges that get penalised. When he really gets more positive and isnt so close, like in the second half when the game opened up, he did really well and looked a class act.

He has loads of raw ability and with someone talking to him and him learning from the experience,.... he will develope into a superb player I believe :)

He wasn't exactly a 50-50 merchant anyway to be fiar.

Shaun Densmore is though, those 2 in succesion late on last night were ace, the ref gave a foul for the  3rd one cos he was too scared to let 3 go.

I think he was booked for dissent actually as he said something to that black whistle blowing knobsock about one of the challenges he had before that the ref didnt spot!

I just looked at this video and the problem was that neither centre half were marking their two players at the back post, it wasnt Joseph who actually jumped with their scorer, not sure who it was, can anyone make out who jumped with Wright?

I dont disagree that Joseph lacks aerial ability, however he does have other strengths and we need to give the lad time to settle in and get used to the system and his team mates. Maybe against the bigger teams height wise GH/KM may decide to use Welchy when needed. Bottom line is,....we cant afford anyone else, Greg has gone, so let's get on with it. The management know what they are doing 8)
