Title: Robins v Gas
Post by: Hulme Robin on February 21, 2015, 06:53:07 PM
Thought we played well today, especially in the first half and the last 29 minutes. Gutted we let one in at the end of the first half. The scorer Tom parkes their centre back got man of the match. On radio bristol he said we gave them a good game. No shame in that result today. Macc got hammered by the gas 4:0 in the same fixture. Onwards and upwards.

Gutted I couldn't get to the match today, but it sounds like yet again we gave a very good account of ourselves. Asking anybody present, was Simon's 'equaliser' correctly ruled out, or was it Macclesfield all over again? Very optimistic for stuttering Barnet next week.

To be fair it was down the other end from where the Alty fans were so couldn't make an informed judgement. The players didn't make to much of a fuss. Played well but never really looked like scoring. Good day out though.

I was too busy trying to make a fire out of unemployed stewards in an attempt to keep warm on a very exposed terrace but at the time nobody celebrated so I guess they all knew it wasn't going to count
Although we didn't make any clear chances we were the better side for large parts of the first half, and although they dominated second half the sheer relief of their fans tells you that actually it was a very close game.
It's been said before, but if they are second and in teasingly looking like going up then we aren't a million miles away from being a pretty good side

In other results
pubs of Bristol 2, pubs of Bath 1

Agree jimmy, time for the under 30s to step up to the plate. Don't be afraid to start a song, people will always join in. Starting next Saturday against barnet let's see some atmosphere back at moss lane

I thought the lads more than matched BR for long periods today. We didn't create enough though and that's a shame because when we went at them towards the end you could see how nervous their crowd were. Incidentally, big club at home etc but never heard such a moaning bunch, every free kick we got was greeted with howls of fury, the moaning minnies. Big sense of entitlement. Another game against a side who might go up and in termd of quality there's very little in it.

Our numbers of 164 were very good for what was a dead rubber for us. That away terrace was bloody freezing though, really exposed, singing was good considering no roof and the wind.

Bristols got some good pubs too, you just have to know where to look.

On the atmosphere issue, can't remember being on a worse terrace for it.

No roof, tucked down tthe side with the wind in our faces.

Was also stupidly cold. Can only remember Leigh away in the Trophy being colder.

On the match, Rovers' central defence was the best I've seen this season. Didn't give Reeves a sniff and once they got their goal that decided it.

Wouldn't quite say we outsung them but it was a bit better yesterday than it has been in some games this season.

Always difficult to get anything going with a stand like that though tbf.

Really good day out, Alty played really well and matched Bristol Rovers, if we had had a striker to bring on we would have at least drawn that game. Jordan Sinnott put a couple of decent crosses in when he came on, one was for Reeves' disallowed goal. We have come so far, over a short space of time and I was proud of the players, fans and the club that we could match such a big club with a great history. However if they do win the league it shows how close we are to becoming an established club. Lee Sinnott is doing a great job and deserves all the credit that he gets.

Some pleasant comments in this thread, praise for our support too: http://gaschat.co.uk/thread/2391/player-ratings-bristol-rovers-altrincham

Hopefully we can go back next season (if they stay down) and get given all kinds a sh*t for beating them.
