Eastleigh match thread
« on: May 04, 2021, 01:41:51 PM »

I think we need to start the XI that comes closest to our intended start to next season. Those marked * in my selection would be replaced with a decent newly-signed full time player if possible.

                                                       Thompson *

Senior.                       Mullarkey *.                Hannigan.              Hampson

Kosylo.                     Smith.                           Moult.                    Colclough

                                                          Hancock

                                                          Peers *

Not all of the above are likely to be fit, so there will have to be a number of changes. I'd guess Sutton * for Hannigan, Ogle for Hampson, and Kirby for Kosylo. I'd like us to keep Ogle, and if Kirby were available I'd consider him too.

We need to sign (full time) a really good keeper, a dominant central defender, a younger midfielder to understudy Moult, and two proven goalscorers.

I agree with virtually all above and have previously mentioned need for CentreBack, CentralMid (to play alongside Smith as holding midfielder), 1or2 strikers (one being a top goalscorer) plus a decent keeper (keeping TT as a back up)... also prev said would be good to hold onto Ogle, Zouma, & Kirby as back up or to challenge starters...

My starting team for next season would be...

                          New Keeper
     Senior   New CB   Hannigan   Hampson
Kosylo   Smith   New CMid (or Moult) Colclough
                           Hancock
                         New Striker
Subs- 5 from... TT, Zouma, Ogle, Kirby, Hardy, Mooney (if stays fit), 2nd new striker...

Keep as squad players Richman, Mullarkey...

NB this then gives squad of 20/21players... plus then utilise couple of kids if need be from Reserves or loans but 21 a good initial starting point...

Think from who we have available at present ie assuming Hannigan, Hampson, Kosylo injured & as we have no decent strikers go 4,3,3 in next game ie...

                          TT
Senior   Zouma   Mullarkey   Ogle
          Smith   Moult   Kirby
      Hardy   Hancock   Colclough

Subs- Sutton, Richman, Williams, Mooney, Peers

Score Prediction: ALTY (Colclough) 1-1 Eastleigh

In short, looking at next season have similar starting XI view & similar recruitment view as 'One foot in the grave'... :)

I agree with playing 4-3-3 for the rest of the season. None of the No. 9s we have are no where near required standard and I don't want Hancock stepping in

Yep, with no real no.9s think we need to ditch the idea of lone striker (Piggott, Bell, Peers, etc) and go 4,3,3...

I'd like to see Gould get at least one more chance to see what he can do in goal. You really cannot judge after one game.

Yeah I agree with your first 11 but I don't rate Ogle. I think we need a decent LB, mainly because Connor is always injured and isn't the quickest.

Also think we need to be thinking about replacing Moult and it would be a good time for someone to learn from him. Just feel we need someone more mobile in there. Jake has been unreal for us but he is getting on for this level.

Wonder if we'll get any news on fitness of Kosylo, Hannigan, & Hampson before weekend... still think need to go 4/3/3 as no proper striker on books at mo...

Mixed feelings about how the season is ending... part of me wants it over ASAP so can start sorting squad for next season & as recent performances/results been poor... however, part of me can't wait to see the lads play live in last two home games - no matter the result as just miss the matchday experience... if the govt kick us in the b#lls again & don't let fans in til next season then it will feel far far worse... fingers crossed we get allowed in for Yeovil & Torquay! 🤞

Desperately need Hannigan and Kosylo back.

Hope we do play a 4-3-3. Going to hard enough whatever team/formation we play.

Alty 2-2 Eastleigh (Hancock,  Colclough)

I think I've lost my confidence for this season sadly.
We do need Hannigan and Kosylo urgently to be anywhere near competitive but, for me, the importance of the last few games is about firming up who we're going to be keeping next year.
All I want to see is a willingness to give 110% from those selected. The actual results don't matter too much in the greater scheme of things.... but it would be very welcome and heartening to get a few more points on the board - especially in the game/s we may be able to attend.
Come on you Supers!

Given the forecast tomorrow, there must be a chance the pitch may not be playable, anyone know if there are any contingency plans to move it to FC United?

We'll probably have the covers on by now 😉

I'm hoping today's game will be on, but if not it would need playing on a Tues evening... if we avoided next Tues & instead played either Tues 18th or 25th it could mean a 3rd home game with fans before season ends...

However, i'm sure the club will try to get the game on today if possible...

I’d prefer it called off and played after the 16th. The pre season friendliest start from now.

Surely the game must be on as Eastleigh will have had to have set off to get here by now?
and we haven't heard about any pitch inspection etc (or a move to ☀ sunny Moston!)
