Who do we want then?
AFC Sudbury at home is my hope
-
Quickest way to fund full time and a promotion tilt is to draw a massive premiership club away in the third round so easiest draw possible please!
Knowing our luck we'll probably draw Chesterfield, Forest Green or Wycombe away!
PS. Bowers and Pitsea or Yate Town (if they win the replay) at home (for once!) 😉
-
Crewe at home please. This was my first ever Alty game years ago, and I think we could murder them again :)
-
One of the big league 1 clubs at home please - large crowd and probable TV coverage. Big earner and nothing to lose.
Barrow/Accrington/Morecambe away will probably be what happens...
-
Yep, big league 1 club at home please. In fact, anyone (except Grimsby) at home would be great.
Failing that, Sunderland away would be funny, as I've got Sunderland supporting friends. You never know, I did get my Southport wish!
-
There aren't really any interesting minnows left in the north and I'd rather we had a few in the ground.
I'd love a winnable home game like Oldham.
-
Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth, Ipswich.. Any one of them would be fine.. SBL
-
Ipswich away is doable for me unless it's moved for the telly.
-
Yep, big league 1 club at home please.
That's fine as long as we don't give them half the pop side!

Not a problem we'll have, since we almost certainly won't get drawn at home. That being the case, I'd fancy a trip to Bolton. Having just watched Wigan destroy them in yesterday's highlights, we'd have a chance of getting them back to our place (and we'd probably get televised !)
-
Is it just me who finds the draws as exciting as the football?

Yes.
(unless you're a Southport fan?) 😉

Saved the best til last!
-
sh*t draw.
-
Nooooo! Away AGAIN :'(
-
Well it's not as good as it could have been but we've got a good opportunity to make it through.
-
Poor draw,but winnable
-
It's another ducking away draw. Looking at it Gateshead is a really nasty away game, and Marske looks no easier. Both will be well up for it.
-
Bloody awful draw really.
If it's Gateshead, wouldn't mind getting them back to our place midweek to finish the job.
-
Didn't we beat Gateshead at Alty on the way to White Hart Lane? (memory might be playing tricks on me) 😉

I seem to remember that we beat Gateshead at home in the 2nd round before we played Everton. I think the score was 3-0.
-
Thanks Condate!
I would have gone for 2-0! 😉
-
I think Gateshead may have won every home game this season!!!
But then again, we're pretty good.
-
Gateshead. Or Marske away
-
being played over the weekend of 5th Nov,so boreham wood at home is off.Glad i cancelled coming up north now that weekend
-
Gateshead !! great memories of Ricky Harris scoring late on, but the running track >:(
Marske are a good footballing side, I saw them run Trafford ragged and put six past Irlam, they (in my humble) opinion would suit us.

No, the Boreham Wood home match is the following weekend.
-
There are two outstanding teams in the East division of the NPL - Liversedge (unbeaten, 10 wins from 11 games) and Marske.
Marske lost 2-1 at Liversedge in the second game of the season. They've won all their other 8 games, scoring 23 goals and conceding just 1 !
Their main goal threat comes from former England C international Adam Boyes - I'm pretty sure he's played against us previously - perhaps Cult can enlighten us.
-
The FA Cup tie referred to above was against Gateshead United, and it was in the 74-5 season in the second round. We won 3-0 and got Everton in round 3.
Gateshead United are actually South Shields in disguise. But not the current South Shields. They folded in 76-77.

The histories of Gateshead and South Shields in their various guises make quite interesting reading.

Adam Boyes was a member of the Guiseley team that lost 2-1 against Alty courtesy of Greg Wilkinson's celebrated eleventh-hour winning goal at the Chequers End in the Skrill North Promotion Final played on Saturday, 10th May, 2014.

FA Cup Second Round
Altrincham 3 Gateshead 0
Goalscorers: John Hughes, Roy Hughes and Ian Morris.
Attendance: 3,200.

Bloody awful draw really.

Marske humiliated Chester in a replay, it really is a horrible draw. Play at our best and we have to be confident but both clubs are high up in their leagues, they should be bubbling with confidence for a nice juicy home tie.
Right, that's a couple of weeks away. Come on Alty.
-
Didn't Adam Boyes play for Guiseley around the time we beat them in the playoff final. He was a good player then but that was a good few years ago.

See Cult's response above. I seem to think he played against us for Bradford PA as well
-
When Alty drew 4-4 at Spennymoor Town in the National League North on Saturday, 11th August 2018, Adam Boyes was one of the goalscorers for the home side.

Borehamwood is the week after I think.
-
I said before the the 1st round draw I didn't want Marske, I'm praying we play them in the 2nd round!
-
Don't care who we get in the second round (but would like it to be a winnable one!) IF we can get there! 😉
Would like to play Marske and beat them in this round though if only for the 'bantz' with all the Chester fans around here! 😉

We'll know tonight whom were playing, and assume we'll have the game watched.
-
Cant help but feel Gateshead would be less of a banana skin, we know the ground and set up, most of the players and we know the pitch is decent. Marske have shown they can do very well, they would be so up for it.
Up the heed tonight for me
-
We should also have the advantage of PP seeing them both play tonight,.. I assume.
-
Unless he decides to nip over to Folkestone to watch Saturday’s opponents.

120 mins of incredible defending?

Two goal line clearances either side of half time have kept Marske in it.

1-0 Gateshead. 52 minutes. It was coming. Should have been 2-0 a minute later as well. Suspect the floodgates might be about to open.

Only heroic defending and goalkeeping keeping Gateshead out at the moment.

FT
Gateshead clearly a good side but went to sleep twice to allow Marske back into the game when they should have been home and dry. We’ll definitely take to the Gateshead pitch better than the Marske one. As long as we turn up I think we’ll be through to the 2nd round but Gateshead will be buoyed by this win so take nothing for granted.

Eastleigh are having to play ET which may help us saturday
Looks to be going to pens - against ten men!
Buxton could be about to pull off a shock against Kettering. Won a replay with a last minute penalty and now 2-1 up in ET.
Dorking also in trouble against Hayes & Yeading. Also 2-1 in ET.

Eastleigh squeak through 2-3 in extra time against ten men from the Isthmian Premier. 1,237 watching. Heartache for Folkestone - hopefully knackering for Eastleigh!

Buxton 3-1 up against Kettering in ET!

Not if he played for Accrington!

Buxton 3-1 up against Kettering in ET!
Kyle Perry's opening goal for Kettering was to no avail.
-
Yeovil through 2-1 on pens. Weymouth missed four in the shootout!

Yate Town v Dover Athletic was postponed (it never started) because of a floodlight failure.
There are claims and counter-claims going around as to whether the floodlights were not fixed by the referee's deadline (according to Dover), or they were fixed by 8.34, just after the deadline of 8.30 PM, but Dover didn't fancy it (according to Yate). Both could be true.
EDIT- I had got the original deadline time wrong.

Dover saying ref called it off at 8.30, others saying the ref gave till 9pm for the lights to be fixed but Dover complained they wouldn't have enough time to warm up.

You've had a busy night tonight Wilmslow!
Well done with the updates mate. 👍😎

Yeovil through 2-1 on pens. Weymouth missed four in the shootout!
Yeovil missed two as well - 9 kicks, 6 missed is really poor.

Don't book any train tickets until the game is confirmed as Saturday 6th November at 3pm.
I very much doubt that we will be one of the Sunday games but we were in 2014 at Blyth.
-

-
Televised fixtures are:

AFC Sudbury v Colchester United at 19:55 on BBC Two
SATURDAY 6 NOVEMBER 2021
Banbury United v Barrow at 17:15 on ITV 4
SUNDAY 7 NOVEMBER 2021
Sheffield Wednesday v Plymouth Argyle at 12.15 on ITV

Are they not doing the "live soccer sunday" thing where they have 8 fixtures happening at once they can go live to?
-

It's not a live game, but still not confirmed as 3pm Saturday, see the tweet below:-

The change from BBC/BT Sport to BBC/ITV will bring some changes, however it seems that there are further games that are going to be televised & not played on Saturday at 3pm, so this may well still happen.

There’s some odd choices in there. Lots of less well supported ‘non-league teams’ that are currently in the league getting a go -barrow, FGR, Salford
-
Salford will always be there. They're the media blue-eyed boys.

It's getting boring now. And it clashes with Only Connect and University Challenge.

Stratford v Shrewsbury is a genuinely intriguing cup tie, though, and the commentators won't be able to resist Shakespearean links like the Taming of the Shrews.

Any team that knock Boston United out are OK by me. Shrewsbury will be trying to avoid The Tempest no doubt.

Shrewsbury may be thinking that they are playing a team from a little "Hamlett". SBL :) :)
