Away at Colchester
-
Terrible draw >:(
-
Still emotionally scarred from the last time I went there. Lets hope they keep the home fans out of our section this time.
Bring it on!!
-
Crap draw, but chance of TV.
-
Let's have it. We can beat them.
-
Only lost one at home, miles away, probably be Sunday, but come on boys, a new ground and always a chance lets get down there in big numbers
-
rubbish draw 225 miles each way and only get crowds around 2500-3000. But we have a chance of progressing maybe?
-
Could have been much worse, great for us London based fans, winneable and a town with good pubs. The world has moved on since our trip there in the 90s.
-
Its a new ground to visit and we could get a draw at least. We cant control who we get after all
-
Only 6 points ahead of Barnsley let's stop moaning and get the job done
-
Terrible draw! They're a decent home side and only get about 3,000. Unlikely to be a live game, probably Sunday 2pm.
-
Never lost there http://www.statto.com/football/teams/colchester-united/altrincham/head-to-head (http://www.statto.com/football/teams/colchester-united/altrincham/head-to-head)

Too right and no disgrace to lose to which won't happen, another chapter.....
-
Why a crap draw? They're a league 1 side after all and we could have got a lot worse. They're also beatable.
-
Certainly drawable. ;)
-
'Certainly drawable. Wink'
Blimey, VofD, you're not being positive for a change are you? ;)
-
Not brilliant but not terrible. Little pressure on us, and nothing to lose. Far more preferable than a lot of the alternatives on offer.
-
Lets not forget...ALTY ARE AT IT AGAIN
Lets get a huge following and be the 12th man
-
Not the best draw but no reason we cant go there and get a result.
Looking forward going
-
It's well worth the journey I wonder if the new ground is near a train station
-

Exactly. This is our year. Come on you Robins!
-
It's in a farmers field off a bypass on Google maps !
-
I said Id never set foot in Colchester again after my last visit and I'm sticking to it! Hope we get atleast highlights so I can watch the action.
-
Ile ware my wellies then
-

Sheep sha##rs :-*
-
I should be able to go this time with any luck. It's a big ask, but this is the cup and sometimes funny things happen. Let's get behind them and hope lady luck smiles on us.
-
According to their official Club website we play in the National League North....uninformed pr*cks.
-
The worst draw would have been FGR away.
i reckon we will scrape a 1-1 draw and do them in the replay at fortress moss lane.
-
Station's less than a ten minute taxi away but the train's an £80 round ticket via London!

in front of the cameras, and then off to Liverpool in round 3. ;)

Here is some useful info on their ground

-
Trains from £40 from Crewe for Saturday and Sunday
-
Same distance as Bromley, Welling etc , could have been worse, but not much worse.
-
Personally I am gutted with that. Can onyl hope its a TV game. Honest i'm gutted.
-
It's fine - we're awful against teams we should beat anyway.
Getting a draw isn't beyond us.
-

Very rarely put non league teams away from home on live tv- Salford are nailed on for BT Sport

That was BBC though , they are the new media darlings, only other non league clubs at home to a league side are Welling and Grimsby.

Plenty of options to get there folks, loads of trains, much easier than days gone by, coaches will be running also, let's have a Burton type following down there, it's not the best draw, but these days don't come along very often, dig deep like the lads did on Saturday and get yourselves down to Essex, 21 years is a long time to wait for this sort of occasion
-
If Vics scrape past Boreham Wood I'd have thought they'd be on TV as the lowest ranked side in it. Salford will probably be on BT sport. I doubt we'll get a gig, because you'd have thought that if Bradford go through then their game against Chesham will be screened.

Why do we have this question every round of the FA cup, every season - TV companies do not show ties where a league team is at home to a non-league team (unless it's Man United vs Anyone). The best that us, Vics or Chesham could hope for would be a Sunday 2pm slot.

Hartlepool v Blyth the exception.
I reckon BBC could well show Salford again. There are precious few TV friendly ties in there

Fits in nicely with the whole Class of 92 thing they have been covering. Right on their doorstep too. Not many alternatives. It wouldnt surprise me.
-
Looking at the draw I'd say Salford (obviously and to be fair there is real upset potential again there), Welling and possibly the Bury-Rochdale derby would be good TV choices. Grimsby don't really feel non league in a lot of ways so they might miss out even if they are at home to a L1 side.
Unfortunately this means we'll almost certainly be rattling around in front of 3500 at Colchester on a Sunday at 2pm. Fine for us Londoners but a real faff for you local lads. Still, whatever time and day we need to give them the support they got on Satutday once again.
-
Really need this to be a TV game to make maximum profit
Gutted it's away but it's 11 men against 11 men
Let's do this .. they will fear us
-
BBC website ticker has pulled out the following "selected ties"
Salford vs Hartlepool
Northampton vs Vics or Boreham Wood
Stourbridge vs Eastleigh
Aldershot or Bradford vs Chesham
not sure it tells us much but some indication of where they think the interest lies - can't see them putting Stourbridge on the TV though as they will probably show the winner in the 3rd round
-
I might do Peterborough's game on the Saturday on the way down if we do play Sunday. Two new grounds for me.

God willing I will be going.

Why not..........after all the club is only bankrolled by five millionaires who when they aren't building hotels have to have something else to do......maybe show Whitehawk, Brackley, Forest Green or Eastleigh instead........other NL clubs that really need the money >:(
-
There's nothing surer
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer
-
The draw I would have liked is the one Salford got; winnable, probable TV gme and plenty of coverage from Jeff Stelling.
I just hope the TV companies decide to share out the live games to spread the wealth around.
If there's anyone associated with Altrincham with any influence at the BBC - controller of any of their radio stations for instance - could you have a quiet word!
-
TV is a numbers game. They'll show the matches that get most viewers and in the FA cup it's the games that capture the imagination.
We'll have to wait for round 3 for our big day.
-
Thank you Greg Dyke!!!!
This has got to be sorted.
-

Dykeout!
-
I was incredibly gutted by the draw initially and even more gutted on how far away it is, as considering I am a student this will cost a few bob! Does anyone know if the club may subsidise the coach at all?
Anyway, even though dissappointed, I do think we have a chance of getting a result, as we have the capability as everyone knows, to step it up when we come up against better opposition! Would take a draw hands down now and try and grind something out of a replay.
-
I'm not sure why people aren't that keen on the draw?!
I know it's a bit of a pain in the arse to get to from Alty, but watching the draw I was hardly relishing playing anyone who came out of the hat. It is only the second round - there aren't going to be that many truly exciting draws you can get.
Given how unpredictable we are I don't think it matters who we play. I'd be more sure of losing if we got Salford away than Colchester...
-
We'll sh*t 'em.
-

Spot on. It isnt about sharing the wealth or who needs the most money, its about what will get the ratings. Thats how TV companies work.
-
The more I look at these fixtures it's nailed on we'll be Sunday, both us and Colchester missed out on TV money this weekend with both playing Saturday. Nine matches involving Non-League sides for definite so you'd think a Friday night & Monday night from those and the rest on the Sunday 2pm
The all league one and two games will probably all be Saturday 3pm apart from maybe Bury v Rochdale which might be the Sunday lunchtime game which the gmp would be delighted with from a point of view of people not turning up leathered
-
Could have been much worse, great for us London based fans, winneable and a town with good pubs. The world has moved on since our trip there in the 90s.
Not that great as its 2 and half hours on the train from here. If my Mrs lets me use the car it would be quicker, at weekends. I would have preferred the 4 hour train trip for a home tie on the Saturday. We are 225 miles away from Alty but the biggest hassle is getting across that London.
-
I think TV companies showing round 1 and 2 football (and 4th qual) and giving money to lower league clubs is a good thing rather than a resigning matter. How we could've done with all this in the 70s and 80s.
-
Not far for me via Ipswich
-
It's not a great draw, though it would have been had it been at home. However, it could have been much much worse, I'm thinking Eastleigh away! Obviously, I think we'll lose. That's good, as I'm never right. We are expected to lose, hence the lack of tv interest. That's also good. There's always one way out shock - Borehamwood/Vics or us? You never know, it is the cup...
-
Whitehawk, FGR or Eastleigh away would have been the worst possible draws. The defensive record is poor so we have a chance. There will be a shock somewhere so you never know.
-
Thanks to John Laidlar for reminding us on the club site that Colchester have the worst defence in League 1. They concede an average of two goals a game.....and don't forget they were 2-1 down at Wealdstone before running amok.
If our defence play like they did on Saturday, and we pressurise theirs, it's no forlorn hope. I fancied us against Barnsley the moment we drew them. This is a bigger ask for the lads, but we certainly have a shout.
-

Even quicker if you change at stowmarket sniffer

Good logic Jack, but I don't think they'll follow it.
-
What strikes me about the BBC's own coverage of the draw so far is that it focusses entirely on the seven teams left in below Conference level:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34762819 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34762819)
So I think the BBC's TV game will feature one of them. I think we're highly likely to be a Sunday game.

We have coaches subsidised in the past. And even a free one to Halifax (Think we won?). So not entirely fair.
However, I do think unlikely that it'll be subsided, but perhaps if it is a sunday, It would be nice if the club could offer a ticket and coach deal similar to the one that Macc offered their fans.
Or another option might be the club may ask Geoff if we could have a luxury coach at as a reduced rate?

Because there's no need for anything more.
Have we really got to the stage where we're slagging off the club for not (effectively) giving the fans money?
If they we're going to subsidise any trip it should be some awful trip in the middle of the season meaning those that benefit are the hardcore. What's the point ins subsidising something that lots of people will go to anyway?

Bradford v Aldershot
Maidenhead v Port Vale

It's really not.

At least we can be sure the club wont view the coaches as a profit spinner and hike up the prices.......I would hope a break even offer for coach and ticket is available?
Which reminds me well done on not hiking up the prices for the barnsley game which I assume they would have been perfectly at liberty to do....

Completely agree. And what is making a profit anyway? The person organising the coaches and doing all the donkey work is most likely doing it for free in their own time. Break even might suggest that the only cost is the coaches themselves. I'm sure the club won't see this as an opportunity to boost the coffers.
Just get as many down there as possible.
-
I've been talking to a Southend fan at work and he basically reiterated what John Laidlar pointed out yesterday, which is that Colchester do concede a lot and have been involved in some very high scoring games this season. Not to underestimate what looks like a very considerable task, but if we go there and show the same fight we did on Saturday, we might just get something. This is the FA Cup and funny things happen every year.

Macc's odd chairman / benefactor who doesn't want to get involved most of the time until there's a bit of glory underwrote the cost
Our coaches are provided at the minimal cost we can do so already.

As you are a student you will be on a subsidised coach rate, and a subsidised ticket for the game. What more do you want? Free travel and the chairman to buy you a pie and a pint at the other end as well?!

I see the club are part-subsidising the coach travel to Colchester...
-
Fantastic gesture to subsidise the coaches. £25.00 is a very good price compared to the train, need to get as many there as possible. We had 395 at Luton I believe in 2007 or 8 for a first round tie, be good to at least match that if not beat it.

should be 5-600 at least for a second round draw, but it won't be - it's not a great draw either distance or anticipation

add in the time of year, three weeks before crimbo, and suddenly for some of us it becomes a serious outlay of cash. Working on it...

Having not set foot on a football coach since 1986, I ask you those who know, what are they like these days?
The coaches are normally very comfortable with an on board toilet. The main difference to the 80's is you can no longer drink on them but they normally get you to the ground in time for a beverage.

I'm pretty sure the coaches to Colchester will be equipped with toilets. The prices are an absolute bargain for that distance. If you dont normally attend away games and want to see this historic game, then use the clubs coaches, pretty much door to door service for a superb price. A large vociferous away following could really make the difference on the day.

Actually a lot cheaper than train fares from what is more or less South London.
