It is your humble duty to listen to Mr.Birch banging on constantly. We've all had to put up with it for some years. Mind you, a REALLY powerful airhorn about six inches from his ear DOES make a certain amount of appeal..........

Wasnt there at time in the early 70's when one of European countries (I think Holland) had horns that they use to blow throughout matches?
A Vuvuzela is not a traditional instrument.
It is a piece of plastic that is totally tuneless and invented only in the last few years.
It only became popular after Irwin Khoza (owner of Orlando Pirates and head of the World Cup organising committee) took one to the World Cup bid, I think in 2003.

Sounds like a swarm of bees and is already very annoying.

I now like it as drowned out the songs sang by the handful of England supporters last night

There was a piece on SKY Sports News, I think on Wednesday,  with a Vuvuzela Band playing instruments of differing lengths and hence with different pitches.

Not for me but did manage to produce something almost resembling a tune

France captain Patrice Evra has blamed the vuvuzelas for his side's poor start to the World Cup in South Africa. The Manchester United full-back claims he is getting woken up at 6am by people playing the noisy trumpet-like instruments and that the players can't hear each other out on the pitch.

So the French can't hear each other ?
Sounds like the cheating Bastards are looking for another excuse to use their hands.
They should be reminded that they should not be at the World Cup.
And what is the French excuse for a real thumping at Rugby yesterday when can are allowed to use their hands, and there were no Vuvuzela's at Newlands?

You can actually recreate the sound of those things quite effectively when using those new high powered toilet hand dryers if you place your hands at the correct angle.

I can recreate it very convincingly - albeit in short bursts - BEFORE using the drier, and without resorting to my hands (Thierry Henry I ain't).
