This looks a good appointment.  Lawrence says he wants "the fans pulling in the same direction" so there's his first big challenge.

Good luck to the man. Will he be bringing investment?

Checking his profile, he is not exactly poor, but unlikely that working for a large corporate that he can bring anything substantial himself. And he doesn't look that old to have accumulated large banking bonuses to justify burning cash investing in a non-league club.

However, he does work for Barclays Wealth, albeit on the systems side from what I can see.Maybe he can help bring some wealthy clients together to form a consortium. Seems a long shot though.

Must admit that I feared the worst when I read the headline on the main site "Looney joins the Board".

My immediate reaction was haven't we got enough already then?

PS: No offence intended to anyone - just thought it was humorous (but Mrs Saughall tells me I'm severely at odds with most people in this regard  ;)  )

Lancaster City Football Club can confirm that Lawrence Looney & Mark Knight have resigned from their positions at the club.

Lawrence has sent the following message: “As some of you might now be aware I have decided to resign from my Director position.

I decided earlier in the season that it was going to be difficult for me to take the club strategy forward from the Isle of Man without more travel which is not possible with a small family.

I came on board to support with the strategy and get us promoted.

We have achieved both. We have gained promotion, have a clear strategy and done well financially considering that we are in a new league.

We have a great platform to go forward and just need more people on the ground to support.

I have loved every minute at Lancaster City FC and would like to thank you for all your support.

The club has amazing people, we just need more on the ground.

I will not be leaving overnight and have been agreeing a handover plan with Stuart.

I will be at many more games in the future as a fan!”

The club would like to place on record it’s immense thanks to Lawrence for all his hard-work, commitment and dedication over the past couple of years, where he has been pivotal in helping the club outline a clear strategy for ongoing development.

We wish Lawrence all the best for the future.

It's a PR statement. He's hardly going to say I left cos I couldn't get on with Joe, or the club aint going nowhere.

It must be easier to get to Altrincham than Lancaster.

I hope he can make a useful contribution. Welcome aboard.

Welcome Lozza. Fresh blood on the board from someone with a sound business background not to be sniffed at.

Wikipedia reveals that he was the top scorer for Douglas and District in 2005-06. Haven't people been saying we need a natural goalscorer?

Seriously, welcome to the club.
