Just a reminder to ALL Alty fans. Whilst we all get angry sometimes at referees and opposition players, and we also like to tell opposition fans that Alty really is the best team in the land. Foul and abusive language will not be tolerated, this of course includes racist language, homophobia and also language that is abusive to those with either special needs or a disability. Anyone heard to be using this language, no matter who they are, will be ejected from the ground.

Huh? Foul and abusive language? You mean you can't shout "f**k off you Northwich bastard" without being ejected? Good grief. Shall we all just go home then? What's the point going to a match if you can't let off a bit of steam.
As for mocking ethnic minorities, homosexuals and the disabled, I didn't think we'd ever had a problem with that at Altrincham...

Agreed.

Ssshhh
-
David birch? Dennis birch? That post has really pissed me off
-
Sorry guys but things were heard yesterday!
-
When your sat in the main stand, most of the "colourfull" language that can be heard comes both the home and away benches and technical areas, not least the pitch. Part of the game these days though.

Are you having a laugh?! If i want to swear at the match i will do as i and many others have done for many a year.
-
What the f**k is this april the 1st , what a bloody joke
-
Idiotic f**king dribble like this just makes me want to swear more
-
Someone shouted 'spastic' very loudly towards the Cambridge fans.
-
I think you'll soon have an empty stadium to steward then.
-
Someone shouted 'spastic' very loudly towards the Cambridge fans.
But not at anyone disabled. This word is used quite commonly in general conversation when calling someone stupid.
-
Serious FFS get a grip!
Ive been to games with gay friends and they never complain if those insults are banded about
As for swearing! Seriously that means no singing of some songs?
Seriously swearing is a part of the terraces! If you don't want swearing go in the family stand!
-
Sorry guys but things were heard yesterday!
Are you referring to the things shouted towards our defender Brian Saah?
-
We don't mind the swearing, and agree that there is a lot going on around both benches but maybe you are not aware that language relating to disability is just as much an offense as racist language and just bear in mind that there are those with a disability working in and around the ground.
-

we didnt say anything, so only people who could have said something to him were your fans?
-

Ah yes, we always shout racist abuse to our best players ::)

Are you a racist?

hence the sarcasm, as none of our fans would have been that disrespectful..

You see, this is dodgy ground. I'm pretty sure if someone shouts "spastic" they don't actually mean "I hate you because you suffer from cerebral palsy". Much like if someone shouts "get up you poof" to someone feigning injury, they're not saying "you're too weak to play this game because you're a homosexual".
Shouting incontrovertibly homophobic or racist abuse at gay or black players/fans is a different matter and should be treated very seriously. Likewise similar insults based on disability. But I think we can all chill out a bit when it comes to everything else.

You know as well as i do that no racist language came from our supporters yesterday Chris so stop trying to stir up sh*t.

Not sucking up or anything and I've no idea who you actually are but you're one of the most reasonable people ever.
I think you're getting him mixed up with me ;D ;D

How do you know that?

:D Cheers mate. It's the fine grounding you get from being brought up in Alty that does it ;)
Sadly, I find myself in discussion with reactionary Home County racists or bleeding heart liberal kids half the time these days. Apparently common sense is unfashionable.
-

How do you know that?
Because you're a sh*t stirring cock.
-
So Vessy what was said exactly by Alty fans and erm "how do you know that" to coin a phrase.
Because i was stood there and NOTHING at all was said to any of your players apart from "get up you puff" when you defender went down like a faggot - oops sorry I mean your mum.
As for the Cambridge fans having a rant at Reeves when he was down injured and had to go off - what was said then by your lot and erm "how do you know that"?
-
This is a subject which runs and runs and has done for many years
I'm sure that we all have our own views on this and on what is and /or isn't insulting/abusive/offensive or acceptable.
To put it into some form of context, to my certain knowledge, there are more than five people involved at the Club in purely voluntary positions who either have or are closely linked to people with different disabilities.
Whether offence is intended or not, whether the context in which a term is used relates to any particular condition or not I think it is reasonable to ask politely that people think before they yell or maybe use an alternative term. We have a wonderfully expressive language with all manner of words than can be used to express an opinion either positively or otherwise

Fair enough

Because you're a sh*t stirring cock.
In other words, you don't know.

I believe he was calling him a big-eared so-and-so! I know because i was stood a little way back of it ;D
-
If there was any racist comments it wouldn't of come from a regular moss laner that's for sure
-
In all seriousness i cannot recall a racist remark being shouted out at moss lane (in earshot of me anyway) since about 1993,if someone has shouted out spastic, then as crass as it might be im sure it wont have been intended with any real malice.I have a potty mouth when gripped by the red mist, but maybe we should all try and mind our P's and Q's when it comes to things that people find genuinely unpleasant and upsetting, and that is a fair enough request. As for racism, its not acceptable & doesnt happen here

I did not attend the game but feel fully justified in claiming the moral high ground and pronouncing that it was all down to a Scotsman posing as a German banana throwing tourist as they have form for that kind of thing. Oh and although I've never met the man, anything that Vessey says comes right out of 'Presdent Gadaffi's Big Book of Silly Talk' and should be treated accordingly - if there's a bog handy.
-
Good job you don't know me... you'd think a hell of a lot worse of me! ;D :o ;D
-
I admit that I am probably one of the worst at swearing at players and officials.... but I do not shout racist remarks or abuse the handicapped etc........
-
I have to say I'm not a big fan of the "We're F%$Ģing Alty" chant - what's the point? What are we trying to say?
-
So can i clarify something here please.
What is this thread about specifically and what is the particular beef that someone has. Perhaps a someone could right what was said by which set of fans, to whom it was said and why they are disgruntled by it.
Because right now I have no clue what people are trying to infer.
-

Speaking of which, what was the official outcome of James Smith's hearing last Friday relating to that incident at Kidderminster?
Was he found guilty of the alleged racism or exonerated of that particular charge?

I'm speculating here but I suspect that the issue here is a general one relating to references to people with different abilities and the inappropriate usage of slang type terms which have been used to refer to these disabilities. Such terms are considered to be generally unpleasant to say the least but, as I said earlier, given that we do have volunteers at the Club with personal experience of such disability, I can understand why it seems particularly 'offensive'
I suspect that no reference was made by either set of fans based on either race or sexual orientation - at least I hope not
-
OK, so next time I'm at a game I'll make sure I call the ref a "w*nker" non-stop, but not call him a mong. Deal?
-
I suspect that this post encapsulates the whole point
No disrespect intended Mr Aber but I would have credited you with more intelligence and insight.
Also you are one of the folk who I thought capable of a more inventive insult
-
Although I was annoyed earlier I would like to point out that I don't partake nor approve of racist abuse or offensive comments towards people with disabilities.
COME ON ALTY

I fear I was trying (and failing rather) to be a little bit ironic Phil. I find your second and third lines highly offensive. ;)
I think the wording of the original post "anybody using offensive language will be removed" is the key point. What I find offensive is different to what other people find offensive. Personally I find the first word I said more offensive than the second word but appreciate others don't see it like.
The only way to completely combat that type of thing is by making a list of "bad" words and having a blanket ban on those words. It would be impossible to police and only result in an emptier stadium at a time when we are trying to get more fans through the gates.
And come on Phil, you've known me how long now? You should know I'm not intelligent enough for inventive insults... ;D
-
Lots of valid points on here...but let's show a bit more respect to others from now on........if abuse is to be used, then stick to the traditional stuff !
-
When I first started standing with my school mates and not with my dad and uncles (that was about 58 years ago)and for many years after. the abuse shouted at players, refs and linesmen was far worse than anything I hear today at Moss Lane. Refs particularly would often return the comments withh interest as would linesmen, and every one had a good laugh. It was often extreemly crude but always good natured banter. As said in an earlier post you should be able to let off steam at a match, and the coments should not be taken too literally.
As for general bad language Rooneyesk, school buses and playgrounds are the places to hear plenty of it.
-
After Mr. Rooneys' outburst at West Ham before our game, I sarcastically told my daughter to beware, as there might be some bad language at the Alty game.
After Cambridge scored their first goal I let out an expletive, completely involuntarily of course, and she turned to me and said 'Daddy, the only person I have heard swear here today is you!!'
We can't be that bad at Alty!!
-
I have a suggestion;
If you hear an unacceptable phrase go and tell the person responsible and eject them.
It's a very bad idea to put out a very patronising ticking off/reminder to well behaved people who well know what is and what isn't acceptable as it just gets people's backs up....especially when we've had a lot of threads from regular fans complaining about one known individual
How would you like it if a Northwich steward nicked the petty cash from northwich and i put on a condescending message on here reminding all alty stewards that stealing is viewed seriously at alty and any alty stewards found acting in any illegal manner including kerb crawling will be dealt with.....see what i mean?????
totally unnecessary post in my view.

I couldn't really care less about obscene language, or "offensive" chanting. People say "offensive" things to me every day in the cab. 95% of the time I smile sweetly and ignore it, but try to avoid picking the people concerned up again. 5% of the time I have a go back. And on Saturday I physically ejected a customer for the first time in many years !
But I DO get angry when my afternoon is spoiled by someone like David Birch (emailed the club to complain, received no acknowledgement whatsoever !) or by some **** banging a drum for 90 minutes.

I too never received any acknowledgement off the club....
