Community Sports Hall Update
« on: April 09, 2014, 10:45:29 PM »

The Club Board met at its specially convened meeting on 8 April and decided to “press the button” and go ahead with construction of the new Community Sports Hall and associated stadium improvements.

With planning permission received, a firm tender from McGoff and Byrne (a local contractor) in place, and 75% (approx £560,000) of the total required funding now secured, the Board felt it was right to proceed with this strategic investment.

Of course, the Club still needs to raise the final 25% (approx £190,000) of Project Funding over the summer in order to complete the job in the autumn. This will require a strong fundraising effort involving the wider community.

To keep unnecessary costs to a minimum, some help from volunteers will be needed from time to time to help clear parts of the site and move items to and from temporary storage. More details on this in due course.

The core construction project will commence when the season closes on 12 May. If all goes to plan from there it will be fully completed by Christmas 2014, with significant parts open well before then.

Excellent news.  Once people see things moving and being built it will also help the fundraising.

Decent local company as well McGoff and Byrne, they have been involved in some fair sized projects:

Are general repairs to the rest of the ground included in this project?

since i retired from the golf road i keep getting moved every 10 years or so . bring back the paddock in front of the stand for those of us who were displaced, onto the flags . or maybe its the circle of life and i should join the golfroad again !!!

I think the new hall design has a couple of steps next to it, perhaps a name change to the Steppers?

It would have been good if there was room for a couple of rows of seats there with a few wheelchair spaces as well. That takes up more room than steps though and costs more too.

We could do with more though and with fixed seating adjacent for carers or family etc.
