Title: Elliott Durrell signs
Post by: Paul Cain's Chip Pan on June 23, 2015, 05:27:47 PM
For Tamworth!!

I know it's local for him, but I thought he'd get a gig higher than conf north. That is a cracking signing for them.

I thought he'd do great for us, but hey ho, hopefully someone else is lined up!

Think he's selling himself a wee bit short there myself too. His choice.

Would have liked him to sign but is he that much better than lawrie ?similar player more attacking miidfielder than striker.Andy Bishop has gone to Halifax , wouldnt be surprised if we dont get another striker and use the loan system if need be

using the loan system is not something Lee does.

It looks to me like he prefers to build a small and tight knit squad, rather than rely on loans

The interview posted on the official site last night suggests to me that he would prefer not to use loan players if possible. I think we'll sign another striker before the season gets underway.

I may be less than popular for saying this - but I'm pleased we didn't sign the obnoxious, arrogant little cheat. I'd rather have eleven honest men in my side.

What did you think of John King back in the day?

They're only cheats when they play for the other side

Point taken to a degree - however, Kingy was (& probably still is) a Scouse scally & there's a certain sense of humour with them, which enables me for one to turn a blind eye in some ways. I will say that I never saw Kingy practically catch a ball, cuddle it to his midriff, let it drop & then carry on, score and celebrate like he was some kind of genius; I also never saw him in a posse surrounding the referee & demanding that an opposing player be sent off. In case anyone thinks I'm being one-sided, I never saw him punch the ball into the net & claim a goal, or net a rebound off the advertising hoardings & claim a goal either. Kingy wasn't a saint - far from it, just like the rest of us - but there have been many worse offenders.

Everybody disliked Perry when he came here (me included)
However when he left he was something of a cult hero both on and off the pitch to some of the fans....

Players like Durrell and Brodie are obnoxious T**ts. However they are decent players and if either did end up at Alty the majority of fans would welcome them with open arms... (Me not included)

Back in 2005/6 i had a dislike of Yannick Bolasie when he was at Rushden & Diamonds as a young lad when he put Robbie Lawton out for a while .. He has moved on and is now a decent player at Palace. I still don't like him but that's just the way I am... I don't deny he is a good player though...

Sorry but I would never welcome Brodie ever .

I would have been very happy doing a swap last season which allowed Gillespie to take up a player/coach role at Southport, in exchange for a proven goalscorer and all round general nuisance who nearly always has the 'last laugh' at opposition supporters

Bar two obvious examples, list better strikers that have played for Alty in the last ten seasons

He didn't have the last laugh last season at ML , he was taken off when the manager realised he was at risk of losing it .

I presume you mean Duncan and Reevesey?

I'd put Colin Little ahead of Brodie, but I get your point. And personally, I agree with you.

Duncan; definately Colin and certainly Damo..........Brodie probably edges out Chris Senior

We all know Brodie is horrible and and a bit of a d*ck, but most of us could live with that if he were doing the business for us.........I do though appreciate why many would not want him here...........Ballotelli and Suarez probably fit in the same category ;D

Phil Power was a good example. Couldn't stand him when he played for Macc. Delighted though when I heard he was going to play for Altrincham.

I refused to put Suarez in my fantasy team - cost me the Alty fantasy league title for the first time in 9 years and meant I had no chance in my work league - but would still boycott him if he ever came back to the Premier League.

In the real world you want your best team possible besides I wouldn't worry about Suarez he is to good for the premier league

Read the above comments, and think it is a tough decision. Should the club sign a player with 'history'?  If Alty had the chance would we sign Ched Evans? I hope not. But we've played lads on release from jail in the past. Tough decisions at times deciding who is and who is not fit to wear an Alty shirt.

Is that not a bit out of context Durrell and Brodie may dive celebrate infront of the other teams fans they haven't done to much wrong

I see one of the Leicester players of racist sex tape fame has already been signed up - seemingly without any complaints.

Who? The keeper that's signed for Northampton Town?

No, the non goalkeeper who's gone to Glanford Park. The Iron reckon "his behaviour does not reflect the true person" or something along those lines.
