Our appalling recent record of 8 points from the last 39 available is statistically better than Grimsby's 4 points from the last 27 - so why am I convinced they'll dick us ? It's not a good time to be an Alty fan.
I think we're good enough to stay up, but next season could be quite another story.
-
I'm worried now. As alluded to on another thread, the season when we set some kind of record for consecutive draws, we went down.
We'll be on the wrong end of another spanking if we approach this game the same way as we did Stockport.
-
Assuming Marriott will still be out... surely Hampson is close to return?
TT
Morgan
Hampson
Mullarkey
Hannigan
DM Furman
CM Osborne
LW Colclough
RW Mooney or Kossy
No.10 Pringle ( derserves his chance )
Hulme
Subs
Kossy / White / Hancock / Leitch-Smith & Moult
-
That's how I'd go but PP seems to have major problem with Furman
-
Given the treat OF Furman its no Suprise Joe Bunney took the easy paycheque AT Warrington Ryland.
If I hadnt already spent £50+ on trains and tickets I'd be going b and q

Id go with this. Argument for Digie over Mularkey who I have thought has looked a bit out of his depth the last few months.
Mooney fades too quickly when he starts so I would go with Kosylo and bring Mooney on if we are a goal down.
Need to be much more positive and just have a go at them. Grimsby appear to be sh*t too. Going for a grim 1-1 draw.
-
We 100% need to be attack minded and get at them.
Would be nice to try and get a couple of goals up, instead of always chasing our bloody tails.
-
I’m dreading this game TBH 😬
-
I'd go with that team too, so I don't expect to see it.
-
We need to forget the last three games in the sense that we all really knew we were going to lose them whilst at the same time remembering where our strengths lie.
That means playing our best eleven in a formation they're comfortable with.
If we do this then we can expect things to improve.
Whether that's this weekend, I don't know but I think we'll have more of a chance.
My team would be :
Thompson
Morgan
Mullarkey
Hannigan
White
Furman
Osborne
Mooney/Kosylo
Pringle
Colclough
Hulme
Subs : Densmore, Moult, Hancock, Leitch-Smith, Drench.
That side would have a great chance of a positive result.
Just reread oneedhams post.
Sorry for the duplication, clearly great minds etc...
-
This is the logical team for the Grimsby game, but logic seems to be out of the window at the moment.
-
Knowing our luck, we'll play Moult and Hannigan CB, with Digie AND Mallarky in CM

Hannigan will be a busy lad.
-
Not sure what will happen tomorrow if I’m honest. Grimsby we’re very good when they played us at ML
If we put out a team with the best men in the right positions and we play in the way we all know we can and enjoy, then, I can see us getting something from Grimsby who are also going through a bad patch.
If we piss about with playing people in roles that they are unfamiliar with then, we will have a problem.
I’m sure Parky will do the former and hopefully it will be a happy team coach ride home.
Heart Grimsby 1 - 2 Alty. or 2 - 2 …
Head Grimsby 2 - 1 Alty.
Let’s play the way we are best at.
Onwards & Upwards..
-
Bit quiet on here today.
Looks like everyone's heading off to the east coast! 😉
Happy trails to you all! 🎖️👍
-
I considered it but £22 is OTT. Radio Robins for me.
-
White and Hulme starting, new lad on the bench.
-
Not bossing midfield by sounds of it. Why is Pringle or Furman not given a go
-

Good question
-
Resources. Full time sides. Really tough league.
-
Next few games will give us a better idea.
We've got to remain positive.
It's getting harder.

One suspects it wasn't happy, and more of a trial than a trail. I see Marcus Dinanga scored in the 93rd minute to earn Kidderminster a late win
-
If he's the answer, I don't know what the question is.
-
Listening to RR we were poor, low on confidence and sounded like we didn't function well from midfield to the forward line, they soon shut us down when we attacked. I'm concerned.
Next 2 matches are huge now.

I can't see us beating Torquay . Kings Lynn is literally a must win .
-
Not sure I want to hear the words “ He used to play for Parky at Nantwich” next time we sign someone
Things are getting a bit desperate now, opposition teams seem to have sussed us out, ie stop us playing out from the back and press us, we don’t seem to have any link from front to back just now.
-
Well, that was a truly uncomfortable listen via Radio Robins.
It sounded like we only contrived to have a single shot on target (Colclough in the first half) and our midfield appeared to be non-existent.

Beaten by the better team we made poor decisions, too many poor passes.
Two fine goals.
-
The first goal was excellent to be fair … as for the second…. Time and time again we piss about passing back and then the kick out is sh*t and the opposition score, the defence at the moment is error strewn all over the place and Tommos kicking is awful at best
These errors are occurring far too often.

The finish was lovely for the second but you are correct about us faffing about in defence.

Thompson has not been great since his injury and kicking has been poor.

True, was it three or four that went straight into touch?
-
We’re so low on belief and confidence. Beaten by a better side, but we didn’t even look like scoring. These next two games are make or break.

I can't see us getting anything from Torquay

Id agree with this. There was a moment in the second half when Jordan got the better of one of the two centre backs he was battling with and there was absolutely nobody close to him to pass to. I think the players seem hesitant and lacking the confidence to commit themselves forward in case they are picked off on the counter. We won’t get anything in this league by being hesitant though, we need to have a real go at Torquay next week – fortune favours the brave.
The passing was awful yesterday too, we just couldn’t string together more than 3 passes and too many balls went long from back to front – again a confidence issue. Pringle has to start, comfortable on the ball and has the confidence to keep playing in a team that is clearly lacking it.

Sounds like we were worse than it sounded on RR, very concerning.

I don't know about that. Brian said it was the worst he'd seen us play this season.
Grasping at straws at least we didn't concede in the first half.
Kings Lynn is everything now. We need to reset and get a result. Grimsby can do it. So can we.

Tony came out very well to block the one on one midway through the first half and pulled off an excellent save bang on halftime.
It took two excellent long shots to beat us, we offered little up front but we were committed in defence. The goal so early in the second half screwed up whatever plan we had.
We weren't all bad.
-
I think we're going down. Feels like Sinnotts 2nd season where he ran out of idea.
Would celebrate survival as much as that fluke. Goal at Boston
-
And I thought I was a glass half empty kind of bloke!
You're more of an empty glass smashed to smithereens kind of bloke!
We're struggling, yes, but we're nowhere near poor enough to go down (this year at least).
We'll probably finish bottom six though.
I think I predicted 16th at the start of the season and I'd still be happy with that. (I believe you would too judging by your latest post.)

This sqaud is good enough to finish 12-14th individuallly, collectively and having seen the heads drop again yesterday we look out of ideas.
Be delighted with 16th.

I think our 'second season syndrome' runs the risk of kicking in properly next season, given the league structure is a bit of a mess this season. I'm still confident we'll survive this season, because there are only 2 spots available.
Next season, however - that'll be challenging. I expect both promoted NLN teams to be stronger than us, which is certainly a different dynamic compared to when we came up with King's Lynn.
-
I agree. We'll be OK this year, it's next season that's really worrying.
-

I would imagine half the current squad won't be here next season especially if there's a switch to Hybrid or full time
-
This change will be Parkys biggest challenge. I'm convinced he's not only up FOR it, but most importantly up TO it.
-
It's a 2-tier league.
Recently, we have played and lost against many teams in the top tier. We drew (and should have beaten) the only team we've played of our standard.
From now on, it'll be 6-pointers against all the teams in the bottom half. And, it'll be the same next season too.
-
If we make the progress we're hoping for in the close season, there's no reason why we can't emulate, say, Halifax in a few years time.
Similar gates and backing but at the moment they're shopping at a different shop to us with regards signings.
-
Can we make the progress though?
Played last season with no crowds.
Crashed out of the FA Cup early.
Crashed out of the FA Trophy early.
Unbudgeted repairs to the ground
Capped attendances while the work was done
Unbudgeted security officials going forward
The money tree must be looking a bit bare by now.
-
We just sold Joel, and the board don't seem skint.

Our crowds have never been higher, we're regularly selling players. The fan zone should be a money maker. Grimsby had all they needed.
Sick of excuses

do we have any indication of when the fan zone will open ??

Nope. I suspect it has been shelved.
Not to hijack the Grimsby thread for the Fan Zone but I'd suggest it's not too late to review the Fan Zone offering and perhaps strip the idea back into something more manageable and completable. Level the ground and bring a few trailer units in. Didn't really need much else.

I appreciate ever since 'For Sale' gate I might not be the most popular amongst our board, and around the club, but one of the projects I've worked on over the years is creating pop-up and permeant terraces for pubs and bars alongside our sales and events teams. During lockdown, I've never had to create as many spaces as possible; all whilst battling material problems.
I'd love nothing more than to help Paul, Bill and the club create an outdoor space that can become a real money-spinner. We didnt need that Altrincham-market esque corner; but what we do need is a functioning drink space that works hard pre-match and half time.
It'd be great if we could spend the money we've got left, leveliling off the space and then working within our means to create a smart, on-brand space that serves drinks and simple food.

Regarding the fan zone, I'd appreciate some financial transparency with the crowd-funded money that went into it

Its been spent on the red boxes currently derelict in the corner of the ground

Hashtag what do you mean by Grimsby had all they needed?
We've had some decent attendances lately bolstered by some good away support. It will be interesting to see what the gate is on Saturday. There will be a few from Torquay but not many.

Ah sorry, they made a fan zone as there's only 1 pub near by plus the away bar, next to the ground they had some wasteland , painted the walls black and white, added a mobile bar and some picnic tables.
Its not winning any awards for interior design but it was filled with fans enjoying a beer, and probably making a decent bit of extra cash.
They had big grand graphics before it opened, looks nothing like them but I'm not sure fans cared as it was enough for now compared to what they had before.
-
Thanks. It sounds cheap but fit for purpose.

yes sorry I probably should have asked the question in another thread . I agree with you the reality was so far off the designs it's become largely irrelevant. It can be functional for now and go from there

I must admit, I did expect the Fan Zone to look more in keeping with the pictures Hashtag has provided - the type of space that is available for ten a penny in Manchester City these days, like Hatch or something similar that's not much more than a level surface , a few shipping containers and some bunting / lightbulbs.

Especially if we do plan to develop the pop side, the ability to move it or potentially scrap it would lend itself to this.
Bill, I know you read the forum, so if you'd like to chat,. I'm happy to get involved.
