Some people will keep digging to find an issue.

These hoards of people who live x miles away and would leave at y time…

I drove a 450 mile round trip and paid for a hotel. It’s just life.

How very selfish an attitude.

Isn’t he in the Caribbean taking a winter break?

We've just had a break !!! you're worse than school teachers  >:( (my daughter is a teacher, so I'm joking-before the woke brigade get involved).

The volunteers do a great job, and are very much appreciated by us all. I had a 100 mile round trip and was feeling deflated, before a free drink & pie turned up provided by the volunteers, curtesy of the club.

You mean like the Bromley fans sat in Kennedy cross? The volunteer who drove from Bradford before heading back the same way. The coach of Bromley fans sat at our ground?

Maybe we should all stay at home and wrap ourselves in cotton wool.

sh*t happens, it happened to me it happen to all of us many times. I didn't cry about and blame the very same volunteers you are championing and I certainly don't have an army of third parties crying for me on the internet.

The lack of comms is once again poor; it takes all of 30 seconds to send a tweet (or a couple) explaining there's work being undertaken, and there's plans to inspect the pitch once completed.

I'm not criticising fan-volunteers, but I"ll certainyl criticize the 3 non-Altrincham fans who are using the clubs name in their tiwtter bio to bolster their career; whilst not actually doing the work. More Digital Media folk than fit wingers.

Two (or umpteen) rights don't make a wrong; perhaps take the chip off your shoulder, too. London Alty have got very pro-club since Bill joined the board, it's frightening.

We've a FT groundsman now, I'd expect his base-level job to be able to provide updates too; even if he can't make miracles happen.

All a bit daft this.

I don't think people need to take it so personally when a game is called off and fans question it.

Respectfully, some of the grounds team are seasoned fans who have been watching Altrincham for a long time. Having been involved with the club's media on-off for a good few years I fully understand what it's like to have your work (paid and unpaid) under the microscope but bluntly, you've signed up for it. Football clubs are scrutinised, and their pitches fall under that. As does their communication and planning, and ours does seem short of the mark on this occasion.

Our pitch is good. Much, much improved on what we had. But it was never going to handle that much rain in a short space of time after the consistent showers all week.

I was amazed there wasn't an earlier inspection. I was sent pictures from a fan at a JFC event in the Sports Hall and there was standing water at 9:30 am. No problem with giving our grounds team every chance to work on those issues but the club need to tell us that's what's happening**, rather than leaving it until midday and dropping a 12:30 pm inspection bombshell on everyone. It makes it seem like we've sat around having a brew and then realised it's been raining - which is where poor comms does the grounds team a disservice.

Sure we'll learn from it.

**EDIT: I should add that from a comms perspective the club are in a bit of a catch-22 situation with this, because they'll want to avoid sowing the seed of doubt across floating fans who were considering the game as an option for their Saturday afternoon.
