Title: Matty crowell goes
Post by: Graham Bennetts Perm on August 28, 2009, 04:25:09 PM
It can't be anything to do with the weather surely?

Thought there was the makings of a good central midfield partnership with Kearney there..

all the best...

JL is always up to date with the news but seems to have got a little ahead of himself this time

"On the eve of the Easter programme, Altrincham FC have lost the services of midfielder Matty Crowell (right)."

Surely it would have been better to keep this under wraps until he actually leaves in April, either that or JL has made a mistake and that can't have happened surely.....

Really sorry to see him go, only seen the Hayes game so far and was impressed, was looking forward to seeing him again tomorrow.

Matty Crowell, he's not at Alty anymore.....

Very disappointing news.

Will this mean we are able to bring in a replacement with the money that's been freed up?

I can't see anything on the main site.

Can someone elaborate as to why ? As he gone to another club or just released by mutal consent blah blah ?

Very odd

An Australian A-League side has come in - one of the better ones by the look of it.

No doubt it's a chance for him to earn more cash and play against some better players (and a fat Scouse lad).

That's going to have a massive impact on our season.  It's a real shame but I can't blame him for going to live and work in Australia if he's been given the opportunity.  I did a year out there in 2000-2001 and would have given anything to stay at the time.  Good luck Matty and thanks for your efforts.  GH will do brilliantly if he can get a replacement of that quality at such short notice.

Agreed.
Just when we locate two creative central midfield players who can pass the ball accurately and score goals, one of them emigrates!

Will this mean we are able to bring in a replacement with the money that's been freed up?

GH might even have to come out of retirement at such short notice.....

Unless his replacement is already signed, or there was some financial recompense, how can you let a player go when we don't have enough players fit to fill the bench on Saturday?  I do hope I'm wrong.

For a momemt I thought we hadn't got an existing midfielder who played in excess of 50 games last season. That said Danylyk seems to be the forgotten man at present. No doubt we'll see how things progress in the next 24 hours.

The slight downside is that for all Danylyk's unquestionable hard-work and tough-tackling, he's simply not as good as Crowell. Apart from anything else, the lad is glacially slow.

Shaun into the middle of the park with a back four of Smith, Williams, Young and Doughty would be my choice.

Perhaps if Danylyk sees some match action he might be afforded the luxury of surging forward a la Crowell but I suspect he looks after his defensive responsibilities a thing that certainly was lacking with Crowell.

Is this a wind up?

I know we're all gutted he's gone but I don't think it warrants inventing reasons why we're glad he's gone!

Too true as always, saw once and only at Hayes and he looked like a massive addition to the squad.

Its Alty life however, were we minted we could attract and keep great players. Not all play for the shirt like others, its real life.

As many will say, football is a game of opinions and you have yours and I mine. From my observations , and in my own opinion, defensively Crowell left the  team exposed on several ocasions not least at AFC Wimbledon.

He and Kearney was looking like the most effective midfield partnership we've had in ages. I don't think there's any way we can put a positive spin on this news.

I'd really likes us to get a loan player in, but it's hard to get good quality on loan.

Perhaps a phone call to a certain Mr Barrow is in order?  ;)

I can imagine it now. "Alright Graham. The boy Rodallega looks like he needs a few extra games..."  :D

Unreal, Crowell and Kierney have been immense. That is part if not THE reason we have had a good start to season.

There's a couple of young midfielders in their squad - wonder if there's any chance?  Gotta be worth a call ;)

i suppose the allure of full time football is probably the main attraction but i think that the a-league is comparable to league 1 he might struggle to get in the first team and end up as a squad player. James Robinson has been knocking about in a-league for several seasons now and has struggled to play in the starting line up even when he was with Perth last year (who were crap). Cant see anything on the Central Coast website or fans forum yet ....

As honest and committed a player as Danylyk is, he's no Crowell ! This puts a tremendous amount of creative responsibility on Kearney because there's simply nobody on the books to fill this gap at present.

Anyone who saw the highlights of Wigan's second string getting thrashed at Blackpool this week will realise there's not much at GB's disposal that's worth lending to us.
