Best start to a season for how many years?

I reckon at this level best start since around 94/95 think we had a good start that year remember beating southport 4-1 away

We lost our third game of that season at home to Woking, 2-1. Therefore, this season has seen us start better.

Best start to a season for how many years?

Redhill Alty,

By my reckoning, it's our most successful start to a season since the final Northern Premier League campaign of 1978/79.

We started with four successive wins during that particular season:

Worksop Town (H): 4-1

Lancaster City (A): 4-0

Scarborough (A): 2-1

Gateshead (H): 2-0.

Wasnt 78/79 another season when we should have won the NPL and ended up with nothing (apart from playing Spurs)?

Redhill Alty,

Not sure that I would state categorically that we "should" have won the NPL that season, as we were competing against a superb Mossley side that scored an impressive 117 goals in 44 games.

They finished as worthy Champions and were eight points ahead of Alty.

Oh, and they also knocked us out of the NPL Cup at the semi-final stage, notwithstanding that epic 5-4 win by Alty in that unforgettable first leg at Moss Lane!

The FA Cup that season did indeed feature our two games against Spurs.

The FA Trophy was an utter disaster, as we (as the holders) went out in the First Round at Moss Lane to a Cheltenham Town side who were forced to play a centre forward as their goalkeeper for the entire match!

As for the Cheshire Senior Cup, well, let's just say that we lost to Northwich and leave it at that, eh....?

Brian,

That Cheltenham Town debacle occurred just six days after the Spurs replay at Maine Road.

Dave Lewis was the Cheltenham striker who played in goal for them.
That name will haunt me for eternity.

I think that Peter Eales still hadn't sobered up from the post-Spurs games celebrations....!

A Cheltenham cult hero of the seventies, sadly I believe that he died at a fairly young age.

I'm sure we were top of the table briefly in 1994/95.
