Altrincham FC First Team / New Manager at Southport
« on: June 30, 2008, 04:40:40 PM »
From the BBC............it's Liam Watson again.

He left the job last time when they went full-time because of his work committments. Now he is re-joining, but appears to be staying part-time. I assume that the players will train themselves when he is at work (unless he intends to take a few mornings off and make up the time later) ?

Still, probably a good appointment for them.

I was on the Chequers end when this happened...........it's the worst thing I've ever seen in football and still think it was a red card and a penalty for a reckless late challenge.

I am guessing, but won't a judge take the view that an injury (serious or otherwise) is a genuine hazard of playing certain sports ? There are currently several young men in the county who are confined to wheelchairs after serious neck injuries playing rugby.
Surely the only way to win a case like this is if it can be proved beyond reasonable doubt that it was deliberate and the intention was to cause serious harm i.e something along the lines of GBH ?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Advice please- parking!

I think (from a previous post) that sainthelen is a friend or parent of one of our new play.
Loads of parking within 1 min and 10 mins of the ground (depending where of course)

I am sure he will get his chance and want to prove to us his worth...............a goal at Weymouth last April would have done nicely and maybe away at Farsley in Nov.
It's yet another option and about having the right balance of 'workers, providers and finishers' in a committed to the cause squad.

Let's move on now and look forward to seeing our new left back and our new strike force secure us lower-mid table obscurity next season !

Many of us would have done what LB has done; that is, if I second guess the situation correctly, take a higher financial offer.

The thing that is wrong (if true), is if he has signed for Droylsden after previously shaking Graham's hand on a deal.

also lets just look at it for the last 4 seasons alti have finished in a relegation place but managed to stay up due to other reasons, so they are not an attractive option and as a close friend of Liams i can also tell you that Alti offered him more than droylsden on a weekly wage so the fact you believe this is for money has no substance.

you talk about people being a few sarnies short of a picnic only time will tell on where is decision will take him but that is his decision to make and you should not judge him on his decision afterall he doesnt slate you for supporting alti...

oh and Hash you should be careful who you call a cock after all they may know more about you than you know about them...so you no longer live on hilcroft rd do you not...haha

Right Roman.................time to cut the cr*p and let's all be honest with each other :-

Your close friend has the right to play for whoever he wants and I think it is fair to say that this 'thread' originally started as a result of us Altrincham supporters being dissappointed to lose out on the services of Liam.

Whether or not Droylsden is a 'better' team than Altrincham is of course subjective. I personally believe Altrincham is currently a better team; they play in a higher division and the last two meetings between the side resulted in 2 deserved wins for Altrincham.

By the way they have not finished in the relegation places 4 seasons running either

You mention money not being the incentive. You also mention his wages would be more at Altrincham than Droylsden. Can you ask if any 'signing on' fees were involved, and if any, was there a big or a small difference, or has Liam joined Droylsden only because he is free to leave to join a league club and wants to play for a winning team (at the highest level).

......."nuffing to do with money"..................my arse !

If he was offered a deal at Altrincham, then the club will know what that was. They will also probably be aware of any counter deal offered by Droylsden and therefore be aware of the differential. Who knows, one day we may find out the details.

As said by others, a player not prepared to fight for his place is not what is needed anyway.........maybe he should have joined a North West Counties side that plays winning football and will be chasing promotion and where he is assured a start every week.

Can someone at the club confirm whether this is true or not???

It's not really the clubs place to do this is it...........I dont' think the club has ever said they have officially signed him or attempted to sign him...I might be wrong, but everything I have seen on the official site so far has been media comments from the Northwich Guardian and the NL Paper etc.
The only thing the club can do, is wait until 'others' claim to have signed him before they comment

2619
If this move to Droylsden is true; and it is looking more likely as time goes on, then it should come as no surprise..........the chances of playing in a higher league, in front of bigger crowds etc etc come low down the list of priorities these days if the player has been made an 'offer he cannot refuse.

We all know that the man behind Droylsden is passionate about his club and sometimes throws his money around for so called 'key-players' (eg Banim). It worked for him during the promotion BSN season, but failed miserably for him last season. Next season will also be very tough looking at the BSN teams.
Maybe the 'carrot' dangled in front of Brownhill was too much to resist ?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Chris Senior
« on: June 24, 2008, 02:57:03 PM »
Has Chris Senior left or is he staying?

I saw he was putting himself up for grabs a few weeks ago

I presume he is a bit fed up of not having what he may think is a fair crack of the whip

He is either taken off or used as sub more often than other players

He is threatening in the final third though more than some others

What do you mean........"he was putting himself up for grabs", who has he trained with, contacted etc ?

I reckon Chris will have a good season for us, potentially playing on the right switching in and out with Denham............being taken off after 75 mins is often inevitable when you consider how much he runs in a game

CUFC seem to have upset a few people with their appointments............Southport are unhappy to lose their manager, claiming that CU had no permission to speak to Gary Brabin with asking them first..............and now Wrexham have contacted the FA over an allegation that one of their contracted players has joined CU as assistant manager.

Interesting appointment at Cambridge United : Southport's Gary Brabin gets the job.

A very surprising appointment, but a gamble that may pay off...........would do people think?

Glasgow Rangers........I was referring to Mr Souness....thought he was once a major shareholder in them

Thanks JTH.............my memory lets me down........it must have felt like a loss though at the time !

England are no great shakes so I won't gloat, but I have never understood why Scotland did not achieve much much more in days gone by. Just quickly thinking of some of great players you have had makes me wonder.......Dalglish, Hansen, Wark, Gemmill, Jordan, McQueen, Bremner, Sourpuss, Macaroni, Buchan, McClintock etc.........all the good teams in the 70s were built around jocks
