Altrincham FC First Team / Re: ***SEASON TICKETS***
« on: July 14, 2008, 12:31:58 AM »
No need to worry............they have been a little late before. The club will probably give the turnstile guys a list so they know who should have a season ticket

tr.................it's 20 points from the Football League for failing to pay the taxman etc etc............the other 10 points (making a total of 30) were from the Football Association for other matters.

The above taken from The Times........quoting the Football Chairman Lord Mawhinney

“When a club goes into administration it sheds its debts and it gets a competitive advantage over other clubs. They clear their debts while other clubs have to pay their bills. We have to send a message out to all clubs that they have to be run in a prudent and sensible way.”

Matlock..............or more to the point, Matlock Bath is quite a major tourist attraction ! It's officially the seaside !

It is set in a deep gorge and is built alongside the river Derwent. High on top of the gorge is The Heights of Abraham which is accessed via a Swiss style cable car. Gullivers World is also situated there and the valley floor is all amusements, tea shops, chippy's and boozers. In Winter they have illuminations and raft racing.
Anyone with a large high powered motorbike will already know all this..........it attracts over 2000 bikers every Sunday in the Summer !

Lesson in tourism over............but this place beats a hell of a lot of places as far as a pre-match entertainment is concerned.

Very strange.........................He is from Mansfield, so I am very surprised that he has not joined big spending Alfreton Town, a mere stones throw away.

I cannot see it being the cash, I don't think they have a crazy chairman and doubt they have a major income stream. Tom Cahill was at Matlock, so maybe he has put a good word in.

Just a note to correct my earlier post...................main website page advises that parking is free.

Altrincham FC First Team / Seddon to Vics
« on: July 04, 2008, 01:38:32 PM »
Still cannot see why the 'new money' guys at Vics are financing the club. Why would they take on the debt and then create more - what can they gain ?..................I keep waiting and thinking that any day soon "all will be revealed" and we will all understand their motives.

However; much as I agree with Ecky that the standard 'does the town want a team' format could be a likely outcome, at the moment these guys have shown no signs of this. In fact they currently seem to enjoy spending their money on a football team for nothing other than watching the games - bizarre

Worst : Southport.............never been able to try it.........they have run out of everything by half-time, even crisps and mars bars

Best I : Pork and Apple barm at Tamworth, although my other half actually liked the Aggborough Soup.

Best II : Moss Lane Sponsors Lounge - only been in a few times, but great food, good wine, great service and never once felt like I had wasted my money.

The games I saw him in..........he didn't look ar**d about playing for Alty - was I right ?

2607
To avoid any confusion, I should have said Blackburn Rovers FC in the title of my post............would not want anyone thinking he had bid £40M for the whole of Blackburn, although having visited the place last Saturday, the price seems about right.

2608
As reported by the Messenger...........A local man (property developer) has bid £40M for Blackburn.

Now maybe the last thing Alty need is a property tycoon coming in and putting 'affordable' government housing on the pristine pitch at Moss Lane, but maybe there are few fans out there who went to school with this man and could persuade him to donate £0.5M for a place on the team photo or an overnight trip to Weymouth etc.
Just joking................but on a serious note, it might be worth asking if he would like his companies name around the ground etc for the upcoming FA Cup game against Leeds Utd.

Altrincham FC First Team / New Manager at Southport
« on: June 30, 2008, 04:40:40 PM »
From the BBC............it's Liam Watson again.

He left the job last time when they went full-time because of his work committments. Now he is re-joining, but appears to be staying part-time. I assume that the players will train themselves when he is at work (unless he intends to take a few mornings off and make up the time later) ?

Still, probably a good appointment for them.

I was on the Chequers end when this happened...........it's the worst thing I've ever seen in football and still think it was a red card and a penalty for a reckless late challenge.

I am guessing, but won't a judge take the view that an injury (serious or otherwise) is a genuine hazard of playing certain sports ? There are currently several young men in the county who are confined to wheelchairs after serious neck injuries playing rugby.
Surely the only way to win a case like this is if it can be proved beyond reasonable doubt that it was deliberate and the intention was to cause serious harm i.e something along the lines of GBH ?
