Altrincham FC First Team / Mobile Phones for Foz

Nearing the last game of the season...........Fozzy needs more phones if anyone has yet to hand over an unloved phone (can hand in at the bar)

woah there.  if you finish top of your leagues AND you meet the ground criteria then up you go.  Full Stop. How on earth are you going to factor in quality of finance and financial stability.  Soton have found a way possibly around a 10 point deduction.  that set of clowns from OT owe oodles as do l'pool, Chelsea etc. yet they are euro top dogs but we won't penalise them.

No no.  If a business decides to invest ££££s in a gamble on promotion and they do that in accordance with the law of the game and the land then that's fine by me.  If it turns out well then well done them, if it turns out sour then sorry but blame the board as it is they who made a business decision.

100% agree with you.

What I was saying, is being denied promotion is the correct decision when a team does not play by the rules i.e they do not meet ground grading criteria for the division above, probably because they diverted their funds into the playing squad instead.

I suppose I should have included something to say that the rules that must be followed are the actual FA or League rules and not the rules of the Inland Revenue or the moral 'rules' of sportsmanship that most clubs adhere to

sad news from team Bath.

Teams should be allowed to progress through the leagues if they win promotion. Otherwise there is no point in the league pyramid.

No they should not............unless they play by the same rules as everyone else has to.

I don't know too much about Team Bath, for all I know they may actually be getting a raw deal in all this, but nobody should be automatically promoted just because they finish top. For example, they may be able to 'afford' the best players because they don't pay their bills to the local businesses or pay their taxes. They may have spent nothing on their ground for years and have inferior floodlights etc, whereas other clubs have played by the rules and cannot compete.

Id love to know why Team Bath arent allowed to go up, presumably something to do with their university status, yet clubs like Northwich are allowed to carry on, Lewes go up only to surrender themselves financially and all the other farcical clubs that exist at this level bending the rules to Norway and back.

The conference is a bloody mess. I can think of 10 clubs they should be sanctioning before a well run university side.

I can't believe I've just read this!

Starter for 10. Who funds this teams world class sports facilities and team of ex pros?

Maybe they have a whip round in the student union bar each Friday night ?..........but then again, I bet those at Baaaaarth are all egg chasing pant droppers anyway

Went to book online tonight - Website gives various seating options for away fans (stands and paddocks etc)

Does anyone know within which area the away fans usually congregate, as I suspect transfers on the day may not be easy ?

Why don't they do that Ebbsfleet thing and see if they can get 100 people to chip in a penny each......if there are another 99 people out there, then I will happily chuck in my 1 pence......but only if I get to pick the team and vote on selling Tubbs to Altrincham for a fiver

The three players in the 60's were Peter Swann and David Bronco Layne of Wednesday and Tony Kay of Everton.
Kaye and Swann were England internationals.
Swann and Lane later played against Alty in the 70's for I think Matlock Town in the NPL where if my memory is correct Swann was player-manager.

Pretty much correct.......Not only were the players jailed, but they were given life bans. The saddest part of the whole affair was that they 'made beer money' only from their misdemeanors and that other culprits were never caught. The life bans were lifted once the players had just about reached playing pensionable age, although Swan did play again for Sheffield Wednesday.
I know that Peter Swan never lived this matter down and went on to run a pub in Chesterfield where his England cap was displayed behind the bar.

Not sure what happened to David Layne (Bronco was a school nickname after some wild west person called Lane ?)

All three players were at Sheffield Wednesday at the time - Kay went to Everton before things came to light though

You weren't reffing this one were you !

From the BBC :-

A referee ordered a penalty to be retaken in a Sunday league football game when an opposition player broke wind as the ball was kicked.

The Chorlton Villa player got a yellow card for the noise which was classed as "ungentlemanly conduct".

The team, who conceded a goal on the second take, went on to win the match 6-4 against International Manchester FC at Turn Moss in Stretford, Manchester.

Villa manager Ian Treadwell said their conduct was "normally exemplary".

We are not a dirty team and we like to play football

Chorlton Villa manager Ian Treadwell

"One of our players 'broke wind' and only the referee heard it and he booked the player," he said.

Thanks Cult...........the points tally is better than I thought.

Expectations have increased this season, but as a p/t club on moderate gates, these expectations need to be realistic. For the majority of supporters I think these are to be competitive in games; to finish out of the bottom four (or maybe six !) and to have a half decent FA Trophy / FA Cup run. I still believe that staying in this league, with all its big money teams, should be viewed as a success.

2516
Meant to add.........I agree, let's try and be positive about the Eastbourne game and get behind the team on Tuesday.....I am sure we can still cross the finish line before the Grays home game

2517
For me the Chairman's and Vice Chairman's comments were misinterpreted........all they were saying is that the purse strings need to be tightened next season........hopefully this will apply to all the other teams too, although I doubt many will bother.

I know its been said before and I understand all about professionalism etc, but the club need to take a good look at the benefits of overnight stays.........I assume we have yet to get a point out of one this season ? Does anyone know if this is correct ?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Four Points
« on: April 02, 2009, 10:08:17 PM »
I believe we've got enough points now to stay in front of Weymouth, Woking and the 2 already down.

But we'll get another half dozen by the end at least. If we can reach the best total since we came back up, that'll do for me.

Well we already know that Vics & Lewes cannot catch us..........but there is always a chance that Weymouth and Woking will if we don't put this to bed over the next two games ......Ridley at Weymouth is still making big noises about staying in the BSP and Woking acquire 'new manager syndrome' from today.......no panic, but it would be great to have 53 points by Tuesday !

Try the Altrincham Lodge (google it).........should be cheap enough.

It's a former travel lodge next to a big pub which does reasonable priced meals and has sport on the telly...you can walk into Alty from there in half an hour or it's 5-10 mins on the bus (frequent service)

Make sure you have a few pints in the Alty bar after the game though

2520
When Big Ron took over at Forest the same happened.........he came out of the tunnel for his first game in charge in front of all the press and TV crews.........he then proceeded to the away team dugout where he sat for a good few minutes whilst the stewards shouted at him "Ron, Ron, your in their dugout, we are over here"

Absolutely hilarious, the dugout even had the opposition substitutes in it !!
