Amazing to see that match again.

That was the first big match that I saw Alty in.  It was a bit of a letdown as we were almost favourites for it.

I actually thought we had been rubbish that day but after watching it it seems we did OK, just some poor defending cost us.

Frightening that it was 20 years ago though...

I love the way the ref lets 3 or 4 frightening lunges go and then blows sternly at a nothing brushing together of two players.

Sadly Gary stewart will be remmebered for this penalty miss and that back pass at barrow.

Oh dear, oh dear.....the lumbering Steve Phillips in midfield!

Wasn't he a local lad?

Possibly the ugliest individual ever to have played for Alty...?!

A very local lad, and a good bloke as well. He still comes to Alty games now and then. In fact, I've bumped into him in the main stand on 3 occasions this season (he bought some raffle tickets too). I'll point you out to him next time Cult you'd better hope like f**k he doesn't read this forum cos he's still a big lad.

Ballers,

Indeed, I began to regret posting that comment about his, ahem, idiosyncratic looks almost immediately after submitting it...!

Cult, Beware Mr.Phillips was @ Moss Lane for the Burton Albion match. I was talking to him in the Players' Tunnel. He was telling me that he would be coming to a few games after Christmas so we will both look out for you. HAPPY NEW YEAR, however short.

Mister Heslop,

Duly noted.

I have just reserved a bed for myself in Wythenshawe Hospital's A & E Department for late January.....

Back to post about the 88-89 team. Flynny's quite right about Timmons, Ellis and Farrely going to Macc for Nigel Shaw and Keith Mountford, very bizarre. I assume we must have received some cash as well. I've made the point somewhere else but I noticed on the video that Cuddy, Farrely and Ellis (heroes of 86) do look like they are all slowing somewhat in that game, maybe that was why.

That apart we were dismal in the late 80's. Even in the 89-90 season we weren't great altho with Baker-Rowlands in defence and Nicky Daws emergence things were slightly better but no signs of what was to follow in 90-91. That team still contained rubbish like Steve Haw and Eddie Murray (terrible).

Only Wealands remained from the 88-89 team altho I also had a lot of time for Neil Cook (and a lovely individual effort v Macc) as winger. He may have made a decent squad player but I think his job as a fireman was constraining his time.

Hmmm, Alty fireman XI

Ian Senior
Elfyn Edwards
Neil Cook
Keith Mountford?

Wasn't Paul Ellender a fireman originally or is my memory playing tricks with me again.
