""Altrincham officials have spent the week touring local schools to drum up support for one of their team's most important matches of the season at Moss Lane on Saturday.
In a proactive step aimed at ensuring a bumper turnout for the key meeting with Southport, Football in the Community officer Chris Bullock has been distributing tickets, entitling schoolchildren to free entry with £5 admission for any adults accompanying them.
It captures the growing mood of optimism that Alty can escape relegation and is aimed at adding extra impetus to a revival that has gathered pace in recent weeks.
'It is a real six-pointer against Southport, and we are doing our utmost to try and make sure home advantage counts,' said chairman Grahame Rowley. 'We have been getting as many tickets as possible out to the schools, and we are hoping for a positive response. We are expecting quite a large away following, so we want to try and ensure there are a lot more voices shouting for our lads.
'Our recent form has been really good, and if results go our way this weekend, we could be out of the bottom four for the first time this season. It could turn out to be quite a significant day, so it is important we all do all we can, away from the pitch, to try and make it happen.
'As a club, we are eager to keep forging links with the local community. We have received a £1,000 grant from a Timperley company, CPP, to help us increase our involvement with schools, and we are grateful for that. Our view is that if we can attract local youngsters to the ground and show them that a Saturday afternoon at Alty is a great experience, they will become the supporters of tomorrow'". "
